To ask what expensive thing you have which you think was well worth the cost?

I got my bugaboo out of the garage today. It's nearly ten years old and I'm giving it to my sister for her baby. I can't believe what good nick it's in. Everything fabric wise can be washed, I've ordered one new wheel and tilt buttons because they were a bit dodgy but everything else is perfect. I've also ordered a new mattress obviously. I think it's fab that you can go on the bugaboo site and order parts for something nearly a decade old.

What do you have that was expensive but so so worth it.

Yep I need to know which roomba too please hoping it's the cheaper ones!

stealthsquiggle · 14/09/2016 15:31

Dyson are about to launch (or have just launched?) a Roomba-equivalent...

MangoMoon · 14/09/2016 15:39

I think this is the one I have - it's a basic one, no timer or anything, but it's good enough for me.

Bambooshoots14 · 14/09/2016 15:42

Bambooshoots14 · 14/09/2016 15:47

yumscrumfatbum · 14/09/2016 16:16

Dualit toaster I've had it for 12 years
Kitchen aid mixer
Robert Welch child's knife fork and spoon set which was a gift
Kerry Darlington limited edition print

Curviest · 14/09/2016 18:49

My toilet brush was an impulse buy - a whopping £25 from Lakeland. Even on the way home I thought I must be mental paying that. However, it is SO superior to any other, has rubber bristles that shit don't stick to and washes out easily.

I would now never buy another one with those brush like bristles. I would happily fork out another £25 should this one die/be stolen etc.

My instant pot - has changed my life. I either slow cook or super fast cook and it is wonderful. I've had it three weeks and have used my oven and stove top on only three occasions.
My multi coloured drawer, large wooden cabinet I got in Marina Exoric when I lived in Dubai. Makes me happy every time I look at it. We had a hideous time there so I'm glad I got some nice furniture out of it.
My D&G medicine man watch
My dog - only £100 but worth every hairy, shoe-stealing, food obsessed penny.
My original old iPod - I used to cart around multiple CDs like an idiot. I was over the moon when the iPod came along and have been an Apple fanboy ever since.
My agent provocateur L'Agent perfume: incesney fabulousness.
My car - a Citroen C-crosser: comfortable, big enough for family, dog, camping, bikes etc and drives like a car not a truck.
My bell tent - it has given me nine years of wonderful Glamping fun. It is still perfect and I look at it with such pride when it's up.
My Bobbin Brownie bike - perfect, vintage turquoise beauty.
My children. I would give them the world if I could. In the meantime I make do with travel, fun and experiences.

Bambooshoots14 · 14/09/2016 21:15

Ok so my Dualit toaster arrived today... It doesn't pop the toast up?? I paid £140 and it doesn't even pop up? Does it burn if it stays in? (I do love it apart from that)

SerenDippitee · 14/09/2016 21:17

Bamboo the heat goes off when the time is up but yes, you have to lift the lever. It's useful to be able to check the process...

ladyjadey · 14/09/2016 21:37

My engagement ring with the most beautiful diamond. Never thought for a minute I would own or wear something so lovely.

My clarins night cream that smells like Christmas trees.

Far from rich but more fortunate and prosperous than I ever imagined in a million years and thankful pretty much every time I look around me. That sounds vomit worthy but I really mean it!

Kez171271 · 14/09/2016 22:09

My leicester city silver fox membership 😆😆😆

DailyMailEthicalFail · 15/09/2016 14:12

My children. Thanks Blondes

and, very very much further down the list:

My dog.

Years ago I had a good watch. I sold in when I hit hard times.
One day I will have another.

BikeRunSki · 15/09/2016 18:34

Bamboo it doesn't pop the toast up until you lever it out, to keep it warm for you.

LowMaintenance101 · 16/09/2016 11:31

Not quite RTFT yet (keep sneaking a couple of pages in here and there) but wondered - has anyone bought an underwater camera or case so that phone can take pics underwater? Just had photos developed from a disposable one and they are awful!

Bambooshoots14 · 16/09/2016 12:11

LowMaintenance101 yes had one for years and it was brilliant. It broke last year and we bought a GoPro where you put it in a case to make it waterproof and that's rubbish (apart from videos) as the screens small so you can't really see what you're taking a photo of

Magpiemagpie · 16/09/2016 12:51

My gastric sleave -best thing I have ever done after 20 years of yo to dieting cost me £4000 abroad and I would have paid triple the amount to feel like I do now
My mulberry bayswater bag & purse use it every day and it's my guilty secret

Laser eye surgury - I can see perfectly now

building2016 · 16/09/2016 16:09

Neuropsychologist assessment of our son. Cost a bomb but told us EXACTLY what was going on with him and EXACTLY what he needed. Cost about £2500 but he's so so much happier now.

Also therapist for my dd's going-into-school tears. Totally transformed our lives is under £500.

UsedToBeAPaxmanFan · 17/09/2016 10:13

Electrolysis. Each session is quite cheap (£11) but over the last 3 years it's added up to several hundred pounds. However, it has transformed my horrible pre-menopausal hairy chin and moustache, and I have much more confidence. Well worth it.

LowMaintenance101 · 17/09/2016 11:53

ThriftyMama - the steam generator... does that mean you don't have to get the ironing board out? Not heard of these. And how much(ish)?

LowMaintenance101 · 17/09/2016 14:08

Bambooshoots14 - thanks for that. Was wondering about the go pro but my eye sight isn't the best so a tiny screen would be infuriating.

Magpiemagpie · 17/09/2016 20:56

Low maintenance101
I have a cannon power shot underwater d100 brilliant little camera it was £200 a few years ago but you can pick them up for around 80 now mine is still going strong
I used it in the Maldives & Mexico and for scuba diving you can video with it as well while underwater
I reccomend getting a floatable armband strap as well which means If you drop it it will float to the surface 😄

LowMaintenance101 · 18/09/2016 17:34

MagpieMagpie - that's brilliant, thanks!

ThriftyMama · 20/09/2016 01:02

LowMaintenance 101

I'd say 70% of my stuff is done on hangers, if I do get the ironing board out its for DPs shirts and anything with a collar (pressed every three weeks to keep the collar and creases sharp) and heavyweight stuff like jeans.

But even if you do have to get the ironing board out it takes significantly less time (about a third for me) than using a regular iron. There's a lot of tricks you can use to cut the time - when ironing bed linen fold the big stuff and go to within 5mm of the folds, that way you get a whole duvet done without sharps creases from the folds. Layer flat stuff on top of each other - pillowcases are done 4 at a time usually with a single swipe. Mine will go through about eight layers - 10-12 on the super boost.

The price is anything from £50 onwards. Mine is a Phillips and cost £160. The things you need to ensure are:
It doesn't use filters - they end up costing you a fortune. So pay a few extra pounds up front to save in the long run.
The more bars of pressure the more layers you can press in one go.
Look for a model that uses tap water and doesn't require a cooling down period to clean.
