I got my bugaboo out of the garage today. It's nearly ten years old and I'm giving it to my sister for her baby. I can't believe what good nick it's in. Everything fabric wise can be washed, I've ordered one new wheel and tilt buttons because they were a bit dodgy but everything else is perfect. I've also ordered a new mattress obviously. I think it's fab that you can go on the bugaboo site and order parts for something nearly a decade old.

What do you have that was expensive but so so worth it.

they are solidly built, much heavier than most other mashines. my parent still have theirs that they received as wedding gift 40 years ago. it's still running nicely and you can still get spare parts if needed.

Faster (can't do bold sorry) buy a miele you probably get about 20years from it

MargotLovedTom · 12/09/2016 22:17

Yep, they're like tanks. Mine has been used nearly every day for 10 years and hasn't had a single thing go wrong or need to be replaced. Hope I haven't bloody jinxed it now....

DS (IVF.)

Stuff you can buy:
Kenwood Mixer
Gtech Airram vacuum cleaner.
Ikea Stockholm blanket - £25, but warm and lightweight. www.ikea.com/gb/en/catalog/products/10103314/

Oooh intriguing! I'm tempted but I think dh will faint at the price.

In the 7 or so years we've had our AEG it's broken down 3 times. It was actually completely replaced (after I kicked off at Curry's) when all the electrics failed when it was 18 months old. It lies about how many minutes it has left, giving me false hope, and the drain clogs all the time.

5OBalesofHay · 12/09/2016 22:22

And definitely Le Chameu wellies.

MargotLovedTom · 12/09/2016 22:40

You can get cheaper Mieles, which are still bloody expensive but not as bad as £960. Yes, I still remember even after 10 years Wink.

bumbleclat · 12/09/2016 22:57

Our eBay Miele washing machine and Miele free cycle tumblr drier have lasted for years.

marriednotdead · 12/09/2016 23:46

I'm a bit more low budget than many here Grin

The evening dress I had designed and made specially for my big birthday, made me look and feel fabulous. If I never wear it again it will still be worth what I paid.

Driving lessons over 25 years ago. I scrimped to pay for them at the time but so glad I did.

Decent but fugly shoes and orthotics.

My divorce, which cost me a grand I didn't have. Worth every penny to escape!

ThriftyMama · 13/09/2016 03:04

Steam generator, twice the ironing in half the time. Worth every penny and has probably saved me more than I've spent given I hardly use the tumble dryer anymore - just hang most stuff on the washing line already on their coat hangers and give them a quick burst to drop the creases.

Baby bottle maker - total luxury item, saves so much time (and crying)

Bloodybridget · 13/09/2016 03:57

New sash windows throughout the house, after twelve years of draughty, rattling, old ones that were a struggle to open and shut.

Tangfastics · 13/09/2016 04:01

I'm going to be the voice of dissent re dubarrys I'm afraid......
As an owner of 3 springer spaniels I used to be a massive fan. Then the original Irish manufactures sold up and the quality is nowhere near as good now and they don't offer a warranty anymore.

Quodlibet · 13/09/2016 04:33

A Salewa backpack that was £120 in 1998. It's been very heavily used for 18 years; I've lent it out a couple of times for family members on round the world trips as well as using it for my own travel - it's done a lot of air miles and is still my main travel bag.

My diploma

mumindoghouse · 13/09/2016 08:17

My Mum's Kenwood mixer that she's passed to me. 40+ years after she got it and only 1 K beater replacement later. Love it.

mumindoghouse · 13/09/2016 08:18

U2. Kindle. Yes

Ladymayormaynot · 13/09/2016 08:29

A Simple Human shower tidy. It cost ~£100 and is brilliant. It may seem a ridiculous price but unlike everything else on the market , it stays put, doesn't wobble & doesnt rust. It has loads of storage space & looks great.

onedogatoddlerandababy · 13/09/2016 08:35

My vi Spring mattress £2k
My Miele washing machine £1k
Aigle neoprene lined wellies £135 - invaluable for dog walking with slow toddlers on cold wet days Smile

Induction hob
And £4k on the woodburner (no chimney so insulated flue installed through the house)

gottaloveascamhun · 13/09/2016 09:05

My diamond eternity ring
Not bought, but I drive a 4 series BMW on a lease scheme, get a new one every 9 months and love it
Maclaren buggy, much better than cheaper brands
I love Ugg boots!
Emma Bridgewater dinner service

MarchEliza2 · 13/09/2016 09:57

Thermomix from me too. Cost about £900 nearly two years ago and it gets used everyday at least once. They are great for serious chefs but I can hardly cook and it basically does everything for me so I make all baby food, bread, meals, batch cooking, cakes, pasta, morning smoothies - the lot.

DP winced at the cost but agrees it was worth it now.

PlasticBertrand · 13/09/2016 10:38

People who love their thermomixes, please enlighten me - what does it do that you can't do with a saucepan and stick blender without spending the best part of a thousand quid?

Mayonaise, bread, soup, puddings. It is like a slow cooker in so far as you can leave it to do its thing while you are out of the house, or leave it going overnight

liz70 · 13/09/2016 11:10

Our new kitchen sink and tap. The old ones were installed by the previous owners. Think crappy white plastic sink and draining board with stains that no matter how hard I bleached and scrubbed them they wouldn't budge. Plus shitty tap of white painted copper coloured metal, with paint peeling off in patches - am I conveying how awful it was? And then it was constantly dripping, but we didn't bother replacing the valve as we were getting rid soon anyway.

The number of times I used to think, "I hate this shitty fucking tap and shitty fucking sink so fucking much." Angry

Now we have a new, white, fire-glazed ceramic sink + draining board, with brushed steel mixer tap. I am very happy. Smile

Oysterbabe · 13/09/2016 11:13

Sleepyhead. £100 for a bit of covered foam but it was so so useful.
