Dear daughter 18 is going a club tonight with friends and she showed me her outfit.
i said 'its great, but use some tit tape or you might accidentally breastfeed someone'

there was a brief pause and then my neighbours may of heard a rather loud angry scream.

After a thump up the stairs and loud grumbling daughter returned with out fit adjusted.

She still hates me.

I laughed.

JellyBelli · 10/09/2016 13:38

I laughed out loud.
Why do women have to be formal and supportive and nice? Be yourself, not Hyacinth Bucket.

coffeetasteslikeshit · 10/09/2016 13:39

It made me laugh Grin

titchy · 10/09/2016 13:40

Bitty...

rollonthesummer · 10/09/2016 13:44

Probably would have said something like 'maybe use some tape to stop your boobs falling out'

This is perfect. Or the 100 other ways you could have chosen rather than the very crude one you opted for!

TheUltimate · 10/09/2016 13:47

It made me laugh Grin I don't see how that comment comes across as 'ignorant'.

GinAndOnIt · 10/09/2016 13:49

The thing is though, an 18 year old is likely to be feeling very self conscious. I remember my mum making the odd joke about an outfit and I'd feel overly conscious for ages afterwards.

You could have said something like 'wow you look fantastic! Really great. Oh I like the way you've put that top with that skirt. Maybe pop a bit of tape on so you don't have to worry about falling out, but you honestly look great!'

I can see that comment being humorous if it were a friend asking, but I do think you have to tread a bit more carefully with teens.

Purplebluebird · 10/09/2016 13:49

Yabu! O.o what a weird thing to say.

StealthPolarBear · 10/09/2016 13:50

What do you actually do with tit tape? I have some but what does it actually stick to and to?
And more to the point where does everyone else learn this stuff
And wasn't there a song in the 90s "should of would of could of are the last words of a fool"? ;)

I thought it was funny.

ILostItInTheEarlyNineties · 10/09/2016 13:53

Do people have tit tape lying around their house, or is it a general term for any sticky tape used to prevent boob malfunctions?

BTW, my mum hated most of my party outfits at that age. It just made me more determined to wear them. Grin

Pettywoman · 10/09/2016 13:55

I thought it was funny too. Lighten up people!

AnyFucker · 10/09/2016 13:56

I would have a SOH failure at that. Vulgar and pointless.

It's not even anatomically correct unless she is so tall everybody's mouth is at the level of her chest

ImNotDancing · 10/09/2016 13:57

im only on the first page but am I the only one who doesn't see a problem and found it pretty funny?

coldcanary · 10/09/2016 13:59

So in order to show how shocked we are at a blunt phrase we attack the posters grammar and speech now? Lovely.
OP the comment went a bit far, I'm very blunt but wouldn't have phrased it like that - there are many ways to make a point, even to an 18 year old!
It was tactless but a loud scream and she now hates you? Maybe she's not quite as mature as she thinks she is!

MindSweeper · 10/09/2016 13:59

Did you want people to come on and tell you you were funny because it seems that way

diddl · 10/09/2016 13:59

Was the breastfeeding remark supposed to be funny?

I can't think it funny to suggest to my daughter that her breast might accidentally fall into someone's mouth tbh.

PepsiPenguin · 10/09/2016 14:01

I thought it was funny too... And really depends on the relationship you have with your DD.

But I get why an 18 year old would have a strop about it.

Of course you were never going to win in this situation, she wanted you to say "yes dear it's lovely" however the desired result has been achieved and she is less likely to have a boob/dress malfunction because of it, for which she will of course be grateful for (this is unlikely to be admitted until she is at least 40)

She will laugh in years to come.

OliviaBensonOnAGoodDay · 10/09/2016 14:01

You probably embarrassed her and made her uncomfortable.

PepsiPenguin · 10/09/2016 14:01

She would have been more embarrased if her boobs fell out in a nightclub.

limitedperiodonly · 10/09/2016 14:02

EttaJ, as the very perceptive iamsooty spotted, it was my feeble attempt at a joke. I hope that's okay with you because the thought of people fretting over a grammatical mistake of mine is one of the many things that keep me awake at night.

WindInThePussyWillows · 10/09/2016 14:03

If you were out to embarrass your poor daughter then congratulations. What an awful thing to say.

You could have easily changed it to 'great, would you like to borrow some tape incase anything accidentally pops out?'

WindInThePussyWillows · 10/09/2016 14:04

Wait I'm confused regarding the breastfeeding? Is she lactating? Make sure she pumps before she goes out or she will be sore by the end of the night!!

rogueantimatter · 10/09/2016 14:08

I smell troll.
