To break 3 cups in anger?

Today my two youngest have pushed me over the edge. The eldest went back to school yesterday and the
Middle returns Thursday. It's been a long hard summer keeping calm and following best parenting advice but this morning I truly blew up. After the middle one refused to stay on the time out step I screamed and threw 3 cups from the holder onto the floor. No kids were harmed physically but they all look a bit sheepish now and obviously think I'm a psycho. They're probably right. Angry

YABU, though I guess you know that.

ChicRock · 06/09/2016 11:06

YABU. You should look into some kind of anger management and parenting course.

Why have a PA dig at another poster? You broke three cups in front of your children in temper. How is that okay? My bio dad used to pull shit like that too and it terrified me.

But I guess it's okay if your period is due.

LiviaDrusillaAugusta · 06/09/2016 11:10

All parents fuck up but you don't sound remotely sorry that you did it, esp with the angry face at the end of the OP. Do you do stuff like that a lot? If it's a one off then that must have scared them.

BertrandRussell · 06/09/2016 11:10

Yep. You are being unreasonable.

WindInThePussyWillows · 06/09/2016 11:11

YABVVVU to act so inappropriately in front of your children.
You wouldn't be happy if they threw and broke things in temper tantrums, which is exactly the behaviour you are showing and teaching them.

Mishegoss · 06/09/2016 11:11

Sorry that's pretty appalling and it seems like you're trying to make light of it. Do you do this a lot? I think you should speak to someone to help you find some coping strategies. Hopefully they won't tell a teacher..

Branleuse · 06/09/2016 11:12

Big hugs. Parenting can be so bloody hard sometimes xx

LiviaDrusillaAugusta · 06/09/2016 11:12

Would you be okay with a partner doing this in temper to you?

Tiggeryoubastard · 06/09/2016 11:12

Wow. You seem to be proud. And having digs at other posters who (quite rightly) say you're out of order? That reinforces that you do seem to have anger issues. Your poor children.

DonkeyOaty · 06/09/2016 11:13

You probably won't do that again - you frightened the children and gave yourself an extra job to do (clearing away the sherds)

Walk away/stuff your face into a pillow to scream/do a silly dance

ElsaAintAsColdAsMe · 06/09/2016 11:13

In future walk away and calm down before dealing with things.

Shit like that is abusive and threatening.

You want your kids to do as they are told because they respect you, not because they are terrified of what you might do next.

PurpleDaisies · 06/09/2016 11:14

When my dad threw a plate at the wall in anger, my sisters and I packed up our toys and tried to walk home to our mum. It took ages for us to trust him again and was one of the most horrible experiences in our childhoods.

Your children would have been terrified. You need to seek help for this.

HermioneJeanGranger · 06/09/2016 11:15

YABVU, that's pretty awful.

My ex used to smash stuff in temper (or threaten to) and it was really scary. I was an adult at the time - I dread to think how scary that must be for three small children.

Carrados · 06/09/2016 11:15

From the OP's post it looks like she's at the end of her tether and struggling to cope and knows not to do it again.

Yes, it's not nice for DC to see but if she doesn't normally do it and is struggling, let's be supportive.

idontlikealdi · 06/09/2016 11:15

YABU. Not on period due or not.

Carrados · 06/09/2016 11:16

I say this as someone who grew up with a very PA angry and emotionally abusive parent.

WorraLiberty · 06/09/2016 11:16

YABU but of course you know that.

Kids can sometimes bring out the worst in us, but obviously you need to work on a coping mechanism.

Breaking 1 cup in a temper is one thing, but you must've really lost it to break 3.

Not that 1 would be any less scary to the kids.
