I live just down the road from one of my closer friends. She doesn't drive and we live about 3 miles from our city centre (about a 10 min drive because of traffic).

This evening I was finishing work when I got a text from her asking if I would give her and her friend a lift into town 'to save money on us paying for a cab.'

I have a 50 mile commute and happened to be coming out of a meeting in a city 70 miles away when I got the text. Needless to say I didn't reply as I just wanted to get home.

I've just received another sarcastic message telling me not to worry as she decided to fork out for the taxi in the end 'but thanks for the response'.

AIBU to think this was bloody cheeky in the first place and to therefore not have been so arsed about responding?!

What's the matter with you, she wouldn't know you hadn't left work when you got her text! As far as she is concerned you just hadn't replied so could well have already been driving. Are you usually at her beck and call?

xexxsy · 02/09/2016 22:18

Not a friend, a user.

Frogslegs24 · 02/09/2016 22:19

How rude!
If she needed an immediate reply then surely she should have phoned rather than text anyway.

ABloodyDifficultWoman · 02/09/2016 22:19

Another one with a pudding for a friend! I am agog at all these crap friends - is it just me or does everyone have them? Shock

skatesection · 02/09/2016 22:22

Reply back WHO IS THIS? and then delete her number

Vvlgari · 02/09/2016 22:26

DifficultWoman I'm pretty agog at some of these too. I don't have friends like this and if one of them did suddenly start making these demands they'd be an ex-friend very quickly.

OP, did you really need to ask if you were BU here? Do you honestly think you might have been?

SisterConcepta · 02/09/2016 22:30

Another one agog at the "friends" some people have!

'I was driving home from work when you sent your text. I thought I needed to stop for a wee. Turns out I didn't as you'd already taken the piss'.

rollonthesummer · 02/09/2016 22:34

Do you have read receipts on your phone? Would she have known that you'd read it?

Is she normally this rude?

Spiderpigspiderpig · 02/09/2016 22:34

I wouldn't text her this evening as she'll know you're near your phone and reply asking to be picked up

ABloodyDifficultWoman · 02/09/2016 22:35

Vvlgari Honestly! What parallel planet is this where people have 'friends' who behave like this? Not only do I not have any - I've never had a friend like this - nor have any of my friends or indeed anyone I've even known only casually! One might almost start to wonder if they actually exist in the real world!

GabsAlot · 02/09/2016 22:38

how rude i wouldnt dream of even asking that

u do find when u start driving and others dont they think its not a problem to just pick them up everywhere like it doesnt cost u anything

Applesandpears86 · 02/09/2016 22:39

I'm not replying to her this evening - I've been driving since 7am and in a meeting all day, got home late and to be honest I don't really want to text anyone!

Thinking back maybe she does have some form for this... She has text at midnight before asking if I would pick her up from a friends house and bring her home because she couldn't get a taxi until 1am...

Text her back that "for your information, I was driving up from Birmingham when you sent your text and I didn't even notice it until home. I thought it was a bit cheeky. I thought the follow up text was really rude. Not impressed."

AnnaMarlowe · 02/09/2016 22:41

I'm fairly speechless at both those texts. It rather sounds like she might have started drinking early.

I'd reply with Molly's suggested text. I'd also never, ever take her anywhere again.

FeedMeAndTellMeImPretty · 02/09/2016 22:49

iklboo has nailed it! Please send that then delete the twat.

JudyCoolibar · 02/09/2016 22:50

Tell her to learn to drive rather than expect to freeload all the time.

lougle · 02/09/2016 23:04

"No problem. I'm 70 miles away so should be able to give you a lift in about 1hr 45 minutes. Or you could just get a cab."

TaLLyHOnellie · 02/09/2016 23:06

And did you go and collect her?

TwatbadgingCuntfuckery · 02/09/2016 23:10

I'd reply -
rates are as follows
£4 for showing up at your door
£2 for every mile
£75 soiling charge

Happy to be of service Smile

pictish · 02/09/2016 23:11

'I was driving back from xxxx. It seems my response to your request for a lift wasn't snappy enough for you. What arrangement did we make regarding lifts as and when? I don't recall it.'

Vvlgari · 02/09/2016 23:13

Honestly? I wouldn't even engage in asking questions about whether she thinks her behaviour is normal. She clearly has no concept of what is acceptable.

Just tell her you're not a taxi service and sort her own transport out. I wouldn't even bother being nice, it's that cheeky.

MakeMyWineADouble · 02/09/2016 23:13

I'd reply along the lines of 'sorry did you think you'd text a taxi company?' then explain your day if you feel the need but honestly this person doesn't sound like someone you would want to keep as a friend

BertrandRussell · 02/09/2016 23:14

Why didn't you just send a text saying "Sorry- 70'miles away"?
