How the hell do people clean bathroom only once a week?!

I'm genuinely interested here because I've read many a MN thread of ways in which to save time at home and almost always, people say clean the bathroom once a week! Now, I clean my bathroom everyday and even doing that the amount of scum I clean away each day surely would be unhygienic after a whole week? It leaves me baffled, I'm genuinely interested to know if the people that clean once a week have really dirty bathrooms by the end of it?! To put into perspective I thoroughly wipe the sink, toilet and bath surround - spray the bath and tiles and wash off before bleaching the toilet and wiping the floor which takes all of 10 mins. How do people get away with it?!

Because we have better things to do with our time than clean the bathroom every single day!!

My cleaner does my bathrooms once a week and I spruce up a bit in between (ie squirt a bit of toilet duck in there) and that's about it.

AnyFucker · 01/09/2016 22:17

My bathrooms get cleaned once a week

The rest of the time I am working or using my time more productively elsewhere.

That's it, really. You do know that housework is a fucking never ending cycle that you never catch up with, yeah ?

So step off a bit

MaddyHatter · 01/09/2016 22:17

i give the bath a proper rinse down after baths/showers. Look, no scum!

I also give the taps and sink a wipe down after a wash.

The toilet is DH's job, i refuse to put my hand down there.. so he cleans it when he feels like it, but unless someone has suffered a poonami and pebbledashed the bowl, it all cleans with the loo block when its flushed.

Do you work down the pit?

BIWI · 01/09/2016 22:19

Or you could go out and get a job? Or a hobby? Or volunteer?

Your time is valuable. Too valuable to waste it cleaning your bathroom unnecessarily every day!

Pinkbabe1 · 01/09/2016 22:21

BIWI - errr I do have a job Thankyou!!!! Just because I clean my bathroom everyday does not mean I don't have a job or hobbies! Ten mins..... fed up of repeating myself

Toilet etc gets a wipe down daily. Any marks etc gets cleaned away but rest at the weekend same as when i change the mats and towels and bedding. Never had scum in my bath but shower daily...bath is just an occasional relaxation. If i win the lottery id get everything cleaned and changed daily like a hotel!!! Sign one day!

PikachuSayBoo · 01/09/2016 22:23

Once a week? Doubt I do it once a month!

Lweji · 01/09/2016 22:24

Babe, you do what you like.

Other people don't feel the need to.

Different lives, different choices, different toilet habits.

BIWI · 01/09/2016 22:24

OK. I get that you have a job. But what I don't get is why you feel it's necessary to do this every day. You can't possibly be that dirty.

It suggests that you have an unhealthy obsession with cleanliness.

mrscee · 01/09/2016 22:25

We've got 3 bathrooms there is no way I have time to clean them everyday. Once a week is fine!

PikachuSayBoo · 01/09/2016 22:25

In fairness we took the lino up years ago and haven't got round to replacing it. So no flooring to wipe. I think the dust must fall through the cracks in the old floorboards.

Damselindestress · 01/09/2016 22:26

I only do a proper clean with cleaning products about once a week but spot clean more often, wipe the bath after use, clean the toilet as needed, quick sweep of the floor if something falls on it, so I don't think it looks bad. CBA cleaning it properly ever day, different priorities I guess!

Mirandawest · 01/09/2016 22:28

No idea how often the bathroom gets cleaned here tbh. Less often than once a week anyway. Nearly everyone in the house is short sighted so maybe we just don't notice?

Choceeclair123 · 01/09/2016 22:28

I clean bathroom once a week. Every day seems bonkers to me and I'm pretty fussy.

Pinkbabe1 · 01/09/2016 22:28

Because I genuinely feel if I left it a week it would be disgusting - that's all. No hidden message, no trying to be smug that I can find 10 mins to clean it - just that my bathroom seems to get very dirty after one days use so found it odd that a lot of threads suggested once per week. It's the same with the kitchen, I've heard that's once per week but that's a whole different thread...... Confused

Maybe you're just much dirtier than other people. OR maybe what you are calling "cleaning the bathroom" is what other people just do as maintanence, as well as a proper weekly clean, and you're missing out on that.

user1471552005 · 01/09/2016 22:30

mrscee but with 3 bathrooms they are not getting used so much.

One bathroom getting used by a family will get grubbier than the same family using three bathrooms.

heavenlypink · 01/09/2016 22:31

I've met my people. Smile
"Elsewhere" I mentioned I do not deep clean my toilet and bathroom everyday and was met with a tirade of shock and horror

Pinkbabe1 · 01/09/2016 22:31

Yes I'm filthy - I shower every day so I must be dirtier than most people.

For the poster who washes her towels once every 6 weeks.

How often to wash towels and why

Moanranger · 01/09/2016 22:32

OP You could improve things by only bathing DCs when they need it, and by that I mean are smelly or visibly dirty. I sponge-bathed my two, & they got a couple of baths a week plus hair wash maybe once a week. Bathing takes off natural oils & kids skins are particularly sensitive. There is a lot of mindless " must bath DCs every night" thinking. Not necessary. Remember, nits like clean hair, for example, so there are benefits to reducing kids bathing. Mine survived, and interestingly, have no allergies, which could be due to greater exposure to good old dirt!

cardibach · 01/09/2016 22:32

Can't you see that's a it judge though OP? If you think it would be 'disgusting' after a week you are suggesting everyone who does there's once a week (or less often) lives a disgusting mess and doesn't care! It's just not true that a bathroom used by two adults, a toddler and a baby would be disgusting after a week.
