How the hell do people clean bathroom only once a week?!

I'm genuinely interested here because I've read many a MN thread of ways in which to save time at home and almost always, people say clean the bathroom once a week! Now, I clean my bathroom everyday and even doing that the amount of scum I clean away each day surely would be unhygienic after a whole week? It leaves me baffled, I'm genuinely interested to know if the people that clean once a week have really dirty bathrooms by the end of it?! To put into perspective I thoroughly wipe the sink, toilet and bath surround - spray the bath and tiles and wash off before bleaching the toilet and wiping the floor which takes all of 10 mins. How do people get away with it?!

Oh the shower glass cleaner thing is a really good idea, cos I use one to clear off all the water I hardly ever have to clean it properly

MeMySonandl · 01/09/2016 21:24

I clean the shower enclosure everyday... When I'm having a shower.

Every night, I wipe the basin, sprinkles in the floor and the toilet with the disposable make up remover wipes I just used.

Everything gets a good wash about every week or earlier if needed.

Judydreamsofhorses · 01/09/2016 21:24

Thorough clean once a week here, then at least once in between a wipe down of the sink and loo with antibacterial spray. The biggest gripe for me is DP leaving stubble in the sink...

Myusernameismyusername · 01/09/2016 21:25

Very hard water area here. Swear by viakal spray

CatchingBabies · 01/09/2016 21:26

I think the difference is how messy the occupants are. I have 2 older children, both wash the bath after they use it, wipe the sink after the use it, clean any mess they make. With my youngest child I am in the bathroom with them so I clean up after myself and then once a week it gets a deep clean but it's never dirty as it's constantly topped up by those using it.

I'm just a tramp.

Pinkbabe1 · 01/09/2016 21:26

@booklooker - why is there always one asshole on MN who has to be nasty? Keyboard warrior much?

once a week here, and it's not even me that does it, it's the cleaner.

Only two of us, showers every day but I do use daily shower spray.
Also, DH sits down for all toileting!

I doesn't need doing much more than that to be honest. Or do I have low standards?

LIZS · 01/09/2016 21:28

I wipe the basins round if they get toothpaste or soap scum around but usually manage on once a week otherwise. Bath/shower gets rinsed with each use.

toffeeboffin · 01/09/2016 21:28

Just the word 'scrub' brings me out in a cold sweat.

I'd rather be reading my new Jeffrey Archer.

TeaRexit · 01/09/2016 21:29

I do mine every 3-4 weeks day Wink

Alicekeach · 01/09/2016 21:29

I am out of the house all day at work and when I get home I have more interesting things to do than clean the bathroom, frankly. If it looks a bit grubby by the end of the week, who cares?

JudyCoolibar · 01/09/2016 21:30

There has to be more to life than cleaning the same set of surfaces and tiles every day, and it just isn't necessary in our house. I guess we mostly wash away our own scum after teeth cleaning, bathing etc so it doesn't build up.

CadburyChocolateCrunchie · 01/09/2016 21:30

Errrm mine gets done once a month or so.

Bedding and towels get washed every 6-8 weeks.

deathtoheadlice · 01/09/2016 21:30

Am I the only one put off by how much bleach you're all dumping into the water / sewage system ? Seems totally over the top, you don't drink the water out of there you know!

dontcallmethatyoucunt · 01/09/2016 21:30

People live on rubbish dumps in many places around the world. Get a fucking grip.

Lweji · 01/09/2016 21:30

It's only me and DS. We shower and the bathtub is cleaned every other week.
Same with the sink, although I sometimes give it a wipe if it's getting dirty.

Toilet as needed.

Floor vacuum cleaned once a week if necessary. Possibly mopped more in the Summer, as DS walks around barefoot.

cardibach · 01/09/2016 21:31

Sorry OP. Still not seeing why there would be 'scum'. What is making it? Clean water by the end of a shower, surely? A bit of sprayed toothpaste is not 'scum' and rinses away easily. Toilet scum? What the fuck is making that?

Trifleorbust · 01/09/2016 21:32

No, the real answer is I tend to rinse the basin and bath with the shower head and a sponge as needed (every few days), bleach the loo every couple of days and scrub the bath and sink with a cream cleanser every couple of weeks. Floor mats get washed every couple of weeks and hand towels changed at least weekly. Dusting and mirrors every few weeks. I'm not particularly clean but I think the bleach and rinsing out covers the hygiene element of it. The rest is cosmetic.

RunnyRattata · 01/09/2016 21:32

Once a week is plenty. We don't piss all over the place and never lick the sinks/loo seat.

Skittlesss · 01/09/2016 21:32

Maybe we just ignore the mess? I just make sure the sink and toilet are wiped/cleaned every day and then hose the shower down when I'm finishing using it. Don't really notice a build up of "yukkiness" but maybe I am a slob?

vixo · 01/09/2016 21:32

I don't even clean the bathroom once a week. I'm not eating in there...!

woodhill · 01/09/2016 21:33

Yes weekly. We tend to shower, 3 of us and we have 2 so maybe it reduces the mess.

Clean loos more often.

Skittlesss · 01/09/2016 21:33

Bedding and towels washed every 6 to 8 weeks? Are you pulling our legs?

camelfinger · 01/09/2016 21:35

Any skid marks are hastily removed. We squeegee down the shower after each use. Opening the window helps avoid mould. Only young DSs use the bath so I'm not bothered if that's not sparkling between uses. Toilet I'd clean if it looked or smelled bad but as I only have to sit on it, not in it, and not for that long I'm not too fussy. Yeah, actually if you try to be quick in there you don't have time to notice lack of cleanliness. I don't really mind about a bit of toothpaste on the sink - again I'm only going to spit my own toothpaste down there, not drink from it. If you let it get a bit manky then it does look nicer when it is cleaned. I'd clean it if I knew I was having guests.
