To hate these fad phrases!

On Facebook (I know, I know) but what the fuck happened to originality?

How come everyone going to a wedding these days are on their way to "The wedding of the year"?

Why, all of a sudden are all children/husbands/nans/cats "my world" and why do we suddenly "love them the world"? That doesn't even make fucking sense!

If I see another photo of a gang of lasses is Ibiza captioned "Love my girls xoxo" then I WILL resign from the Internet. I do enjoy that the photo is usually really flattering of the poster and often minging portrayals of the "girls".

Felt good to get that off my chest. Thanks.

I hate it when people suffix things with 'though' (or worse still, 'tho').

#thisgirlthough
#thoseeyesthough
#yourhairthough

It's weird! It needlessly makes it sound like a counter-arguement!

Nabootique · 31/08/2016 14:03

"On fleek" is basically just "looking good" cjt110. So "Gurrrrrrrl, your highlight is on fleek!" is akin to "that shimmery stuff on your cheekbones is looking particularly lovely, my dear".

GabsAlot · 31/08/2016 14:04

#goals or #goalz

bae-its babe or nothing stop shirtening things

fruitboxjury · 31/08/2016 14:05

mumzypops I always thought that's because FB posts your name at the beginning of the status, so you're filling the gap so to speak

"Said"... Sorry to pp who used it, but it's becoming very over used by those to are trying too hard to interject irony into their sentences.

Going out for a cheeky wine tonight....
... Me with said wine

Normally nothing has actually even been said about said thing

Advicepls7080 · 31/08/2016 14:06

Agree with pictish over the love the bones of .. It's very old and self explanatory

hanflan · 31/08/2016 14:06

How has nobody mentioned "goals" yet? As in "they are goals" or #relationshipgoals. URGH

hanflan · 31/08/2016 14:07

Oh crosspost gabsalot!

apigcalledwanda · 31/08/2016 14:07

Mumzy isn't that because Facebook statuses start with your name, though?

As in: Jane Smith...is chillin' in ma crib wiv bae #myworld

I hate "...time" BBQ time, wedding time, wine time, bingo time.

Someone on my Facebook comment her SIl was a "fitty" the other day Hmm

Hashtags as well are annoying. Friend of DSIS offers to make elaborate cakes for every occasion. Every single time she makes one she posts a picture of the ingredients with loads of 🙈 these and #whathaveidone #baking #starbaker #threetiercake #busymum #lovesherfriends etc

MardAsSnails · 31/08/2016 14:07

Fucking hate it

I'm often tempted to join in and take the piss royally. If I uploaded my last 5 photos on similar style, I'd have:

#thisonetho relating to a bottle of gin
#myworld a photo of a pissed DH lying on the rug with the dog licking his head
#sorrynotsorry regarding a photo of said dog's shit, to show her progress to the vet later
#blessed with a photo of the Burger King delivery that arrived - took photo to send to the colleagues who were in a meeting and needed summoning to eat burgers
#makingmemories would be a selfie in a hospital bed, to prove to DH that I actually went because he thought id just go home without waiting to be treated.

My life is so not set up for hashtagging.

pictish · 31/08/2016 14:08

I love fad phrases and the seemingly never-ending evolution of language and slang in particular. I find it interesting how clever and creative we can be with our language, both spoken and written.

varvara · 31/08/2016 14:09

Oh I have one - "... anyone?" Usually used by fashion writers, e.g. "Statement necklace, anyone?" "Metallic sports luxe, anyone?"

I don't know why, but it always makes me cross; what does it even mean?

GabsAlot · 31/08/2016 14:10

the only one i actually like i lol which i guessdoesnt count a its text speak

Not quite the same, but I feel quite annoyed every time I see '' on Mumsnet. No idea why it irritates me so much.

Agree too that '#blessed' is highly annoying and usually used for boasting purposes.

Ffitz · 31/08/2016 14:12

There is an obsession with brands that I just don't relate to. A lovely picture of a friend's baby was hashtagged with the make of pram he was lying in.

I also have a friend on FB for whom everything she does with her partner is a 'date' eg, breakfast date Starbucks = stopping for a coffee on the way to the shops. Sometimes the kids are even there as well.

Optimist1 · 31/08/2016 14:13

The #feelingblessed ones make me want to respond with this photo.

YANBU. Does my head in

#mybad

Nabootique · 31/08/2016 14:14

This one seems to be America and I see it on YouTube a lot, but "a minute", meant to mean a long time Hmm Context is usually something like "it's been a minute since I posted a video". You'd think it meant quickly but no!

EstellaHavisham · 31/08/2016 14:15

Cheeky glass of wine? don't mind if i do...

Amazeballs

Hmm

Make me want to rip my own face off whenever I see them.

SmellOfPythonInTheMorning · 31/08/2016 14:16

I hate #blessed. It's like oh, God loves me and has sent me all this amazing stuff (and those of us who don't have it must have been deemed lacking by the One Above)

Newenglandinthefall · 31/08/2016 14:17

My pet hate is #justsayin
So passive aggressive

Wavingchinesecat · 31/08/2016 14:17

Can relate to all of the above. Personal hates;

#makingmemories
#soznotsoz
#hatersgonnahate

Cheeky - in relation to food or booze
Any 'hun' stuff
My bad

LadyBaelish · 31/08/2016 14:18

Not phrases, but Snapchat filters. One picture of you with dog ears or a 'flower crown' (I think that's what they call them anyway!) maybe you can get away with it. But no one needs to see more!
