Don't know if you remember my thread awhile ago about a certain chocolate retailer leaving me out in the street in my wheelchair, because they had no disabled access? Well they promised a bell as they refused to put any ramp in. Went there today and guess what? No fucking bell. I'm suppose I should have expected it, but I had hoped the bell could have been sorted by now. I mean how long does it take to put a bell up?

It's bad enough getting the attention of a shop assistant anywhere these days even when you are inside the bloody shop , everyone seems to have cut their staff right back to the absolute minimum possible. Let alone trying to get their attention from outside !

elodie2000 · 31/08/2016 13:46

They could get a threshold ramp for about £50 for that step . All they need to do is look online - leave it inside the shop door at night & put it out when they open up in the morning. It's not hard! (Angry at Thorntons).

elodie2000 · 31/08/2016 13:48

Nahh expost! The rubber type ramps can stay out all day, they're really narrow and just bridge the gap as it were!

elodie2000 · 31/08/2016 13:48

Bahh not nahh !

elodie2000 · 31/08/2016 13:53

I've just seen that bell has been purchased (need to read entire thread) 😄 😄

Mummyme1987 · 31/08/2016 14:00

Well the charity was very helpful. It seems I can sue and as I have legal cover on my house insurance it won't cost me anything! Got an appointment on 28th Sept. 😊♿️

Oh I see Elodie I was thinking of the temporary one that goes in and out as and when customers want access because maybe a permanent one would trip people up from the side as they walk past licking the window across the doorway iyswim . I thought maybe that's their reason for not putting a permanent one in. But then I suppose they could have railings to prevent this. I know my son( who has MS I said upthread) hates with a passion having to ask for help or having to shout for someone/ring a bell etc and don't even get him started on having to ask for a fecking key to the disabled toilet. He feels he should be wherever possible be able to access doorways/toilets/etc like any able bodied person without having to make an announcement about it. Don't get me wrong he is very very polite preens and will always show much gratitude to anyone who helps him but it's the having to ask or depend on some kind soul to do things for you that gets to him I guess.

Hotter shoes has a step in their store they bring out a temp ramp each time.

Mummyme1987 · 31/08/2016 14:05

So why can't thorntons

OP posts:
Bahhhhhumbug · 31/08/2016 14:06

But actually Elodie those rubber ones you're talking about probably only stick out a couple of inches and even I don't get that close to Thornton's window

NotMe321 · 31/08/2016 14:09

OP, I wouldn't necessarily bet on your house insurance legal cover paying for a claim: you need to check the small print. Some types of claim are excluded, and sometimes they insist on you using their nominated lawyers who don't necessarily know anything about discriminatio claims. However, the Equality and Human Rights Commission might be interested in helping you.

Ginkypig · 31/08/2016 14:10

I was in town last week and a woman wanted into a charity shop.

Person working in the shop brought out the ramp unfolded it laid it down women wheeled herself in it took all of 2 fucking minutes! The ramp stayed down until the woman had left. So what's the problem.

Shame on you you shit chocolate selling bastards!

Mummyme1987 · 31/08/2016 14:12

I will look into the small print thanks.

Have a look at human rights lawyers in your area one of them might take on your case for free as its a really great example of how some big business flought disability law.

Obviously I d know but one of them might.

Mummyme1987 · 31/08/2016 14:15

Either way I'm suing. So fed up with feeling less than human.

LurkingHusband · 31/08/2016 14:16

Put me down for £5.

I'll go on the 28th and then I'll know more. But if I have to crowdfund I'll let you all know. I really do appreciate all the support mumsnet has given me. It really does make a difference to me.

Law students might be willing to take it on as a pro bono case. You could contact [[https://www.uea.ac.uk/law UEA]], their website says:

Our student-led pro-bono work is nationally recognised and more of our undergraduates participate in it than any other law school. Through the Law Clinic, students are involved with the Norfolk Community Legal Service, Shelter, Victim Support, the Witness Service, the Red Cross and our Innocence Project.

Mummyme1987 · 31/08/2016 14:26

I'll see what this charity says then if I have to I'll start contacting others. But I will have my day in court. I was made to feel like a dog.

elodie2000 · 31/08/2016 14:30

Bahh Yes the rubber ones! The step in OP's photo looks quite low so only a bridging ramp might be needed which wouldn't be a safety hazard on the street and could probably be left out!
Different sizes/depths available.

Crocodillian · 31/08/2016 14:31

I remember your earlier thread and had a nose on Twitter at the time OP. I'm sorry that they still havent resolved this, you'd have thought that even if they hadnt sorted it due to common decency, they would have done so due to pure embarassment.

Flatbox · 31/08/2016 14:50

Mummyme that's great news about possible legal action, Thorntons need to be publicly shamed over this. Please keep us posted on outcome of 28th mtg, we're all here to support you.
