Don't know if you remember my thread awhile ago about a certain chocolate retailer leaving me out in the street in my wheelchair, because they had no disabled access? Well they promised a bell as they refused to put any ramp in. Went there today and guess what? No fucking bell. I'm suppose I should have expected it, but I had hoped the bell could have been sorted by now. I mean how long does it take to put a bell up?

I'll go Friday after Hubby finishes work and look. That's so kind of you.

Shocking behaviour from thorntons though, it takes less than a tenner and less than 2 mins to sort out. Still too much bother for them!

I've told them it's coming and that I'm going to check its up on Friday! ♿️

If only the daily fail picked up stories like this
"Mumsnetter has to buy disability aid for store as Thorntons won't"
Cue sad face pictures. 😂♿️😡

OP u are welcome. Forgot to check address I've sent to Orford Place - is that correct? Probably time to change if wrong.

Mummyme1987 · 31/08/2016 13:21

Yes Oxford place. Thank you xxxx

Mummyme1987 · 31/08/2016 13:22

I bet there will be some Heath and safety reason why no-one can put it up. I'm betting no one has been trained to fit them! 😂

Bahhhhhumbug · 31/08/2016 13:22

Not defending them in any way my DS has MS but looking at the picture I cant see how they could do a ramp as the step is at the outside of the doorway so any ramp would have to jut out over the pavement and it's side would be a trip hazard to anyone walking past the windows. Having said that , that's really not your problem how they provide you access , so have you been in touch with the local authorities to see what they can do to enforce?

Mummyme1987 · 31/08/2016 13:23

Or they are not allowed to touch batteries with a h&s assessment!

OP posts:
Mummyme1987 · 31/08/2016 13:24

Local authorities have no power it's up to each person to take them to court.

OP posts:
Mummyme1987 · 31/08/2016 13:25

Lots of places have a removable ramp they get out just for you.

Ten weeks to fit a bell? How is that possible?

Nip round to Argos, Halfords or similar and buy bell: 20 minutes

Get drill and screwdriver out, fit bell: 30 minutes.

If I lived in Norwich, I'd go round there and fit it for them.

Flatbox · 31/08/2016 13:28

You're probably right there, I expect they will claim it needs to PAT tested!

Mummyme1987 · 31/08/2016 13:28

Well thanks to Flatbox there will be one there tomorrow. Anyone want to start a betting ring on how long it will take them to fit it?

OP posts:
Mummyme1987 · 31/08/2016 13:29

Or it needs planning permission!

OP posts:
LurkingHusband · 31/08/2016 13:29

Get drill and screwdriver out, fit bell: 30 minutes.

You don't need to do that. They are wireless (so no wires to trail) and the button can be stuck with a sticky pad (which it comes with).

I'm sorry, but every time somebody offers to help, and shows how trivial it is to fit a bell, Thorntons look that much more of a shit shop in general.

One hopes they pay more attention to hygiene and food preparation than they do their customers ? Although you probably wouldn't want to voice that in public. It might annoy them. If they treat you this badly when they want your custom, imagine how badly they would treat you if they didn't ?

Mummyme1987 · 31/08/2016 13:33

It's such a small thing and it just shows up how bad they are.

OP posts:
Mummyme1987 · 31/08/2016 13:34

I sent them this message

It's a tiny adjustment to make and even then you can't do it. How to make disabled people feel they don't matter.

As you are Norfolk, if you want to consider making a legal complaint, then ISCRE, a charity in Suffolk have a project called Tackling Discrimination in the East including a monthly outreach clinic in Norwich. ISCRE's contact number is 01473 408111

Bahhhhhumbug · 31/08/2016 13:35

Really do local authorities have no power in these matters ? I had no idea. I thought they could enforce their own bye laws and national ones too if they were being breached. Mind you that might explain why a café local to me got rid of it's loos and put more tables in because the council installed public loos nearby. Many people complained but nothing was done about it - except a few of us locals started a boycott. I really couldn't believe it when I first asked where their loos were now and got told they didn't have any anymore and suggested my DGDs and I use the public ones.

elodie2000 · 31/08/2016 13:37

Forget the bloody bell!!! How difficult is it to put a ramp on that tiny step?
FB is your friend. Shouldn't have to but post on their FB page, with photo and shame them into it.
How stupid & thoughtless of them.

Mummyme1987 · 31/08/2016 13:39

Thank you user I'm making that call now!

OP posts:
Bahhhhhumbug · 31/08/2016 13:41

Oh yes I've seen those removable ramps but then obviously you (and other wheelchair users )would still have the problem of having to try and attract their attention whenever you want to enter the shop so it's back to the bell. But it seems they cant even fit that so don't hold your breath over the portable ramp !
