At the beach today with ds. It's fairly busy, lots of kids running around.
I am surrounded by people smoking. 2 people behind me are smoking and a woman in front of me. Plus a group of people just down the beach a bit who are all Smoking. It stinks.
I know it's an open space so they are entitled I suppose but it's horrible and there are kids running around etc. You can't help but smell it etc!
Just wish beaches were smoke free zones. Plus all of them are putting the cigarette ends in the sand!
Aibu to be annoyed?!!

I was sitting in a sand dune, no one else around having a fag and some jolly mum and her kids came trundling up the beach with a wooden trolley full of beach paraphernalia and sat right in front of me. I bet she was tutting at my fag,

Yawn.

What if it was on the moon, and a passing alien in anspaceship was annoyed?

Whatifery, eh? Such fun.

IthinkIamsinking · 12/08/2016 21:02

Oh FFS.
People find smoking rank. Everywhere. Deal with it.

Yes..... so tough shit.

Yeah, I got that, ta.

There's always one on a thread. 'But what if it were insert different scenario that would allow poster to whip up some self-righteous outrage ? What about that, eh?'

Predictable and boring.

Fair enough, knock yourself out. Pref on that nice abandoned sand dune. Grin

PurpleTango · 12/08/2016 21:15

Ok Jassy. I take my dogs to a field and there is a dog that is obviously not happy about my dogs being there. They show this by barking, growling and snapping (pretty much like people on a beach whinging about somebody smoking). So I call my dogs and move to a different field where the other dogs are friendly. Does that answer your question?

JassyRadlett · 12/08/2016 21:23

Purple, I'm confused. What question?

HeteronormativeHaybales · 12/08/2016 21:36

I think smoking, perhaps full stop, certainly in public, is going to be featured in Horrible Histories circa 2100. The idea that we ever allowed it in public places indoors is already getting incredible.

And why do smokers who wouldn't dream of throwing their plastic cups/bags/tissues etc onto the street/beach feel entirely entitled to dispose of their cigarette ends there? Hmm

Smokers, like dog owners, cyclists, parents, drivers etc. can be considerate or inconsiderate. Some people litter, some don't. Not all smokers litter. NASALT.😛

TSSDNCOP · 12/08/2016 21:47

I'm an ex-smoker. I love the smell of cig smoke with n a summer breeze in an absolutely gigantic, limitless open space, generally with a stiff breeze filled with the miasma of a million sun tan lotions.

ThymeLord · 12/08/2016 21:49

I've just got back from a weeks holiday in Wales. I spent a good bit of time on the beach and I smoked on the beach. I stubbed all my fags out in the sand and then put them in an empty pack I keep in my bag. I don't ever drop fag ends, or any litter at all. The beach however was covered in rubbish, disposable BBQs, lolly and ice cream wrappers, nappies in those plastic nappy bags, popped beach balls, the lot. I know which is worse.

RebelandaStunner · 12/08/2016 21:54

Yanbu.
It's a disgusting smell, toxic and should be banned in public places.

ThymeLord · 12/08/2016 21:56

Lots of things smell disgusting and no, it should not be banned.

FullTimeYummy · 12/08/2016 21:57

This reminds me of the time i was walking past a group on the beach with DD1.

They seemed a normal bunch, but then i caught the distinct whiff of their different pastimes and values and both myself and my daughter melted right into the sand and were washed away in a sea of outrage

TuftyFinchy · 12/08/2016 22:03

I love smoking on the beach, it's the only thing that makes it bearable. And a four pack of Peroni.

People that spend their whole day at the beach eating annoy me greatly.

On an added note, I would ban kebabs and inflatables. And people who shriek. And people who set up a camp the size of The Isle of Harris.

Yep, there's an enormous amount of litter on the beach from food packaging.

Plus you also have to look at the fatties stuffing their faces.

I'd like to see food banned from beaches as the beach should just be for me and people like me to enjoy ourselves without feeling harassed by others.

TuftyFinchy · 12/08/2016 22:09

Usual - yes, 'tis me.

ThymeLord · 12/08/2016 22:11

If you ban fatties and smokers I'm fucked. I'll have to get the council to deliver a tonne of sand into my back garden and sit on that, hot dog in one hand and rollie in the other.
