At the beach today with ds. It's fairly busy, lots of kids running around.
I am surrounded by people smoking. 2 people behind me are smoking and a woman in front of me. Plus a group of people just down the beach a bit who are all Smoking. It stinks.
I know it's an open space so they are entitled I suppose but it's horrible and there are kids running around etc. You can't help but smell it etc!
Just wish beaches were smoke free zones. Plus all of them are putting the cigarette ends in the sand!
Aibu to be annoyed?!!

thymeLord you could just go hang out at building sites. They have loads of sand.

FullTimeYummy · 12/08/2016 22:16

I'm not proposing banning fatties, just food.

Nobody needs food at the beach as hungry people can just jog to an eatery. If you can't can't jog to the chippy you're too fat for the beach

TuftyFinchy · 12/08/2016 22:17

Usual did it have big bouncy wheels? People down here get a removal van for the day to ship all their stuff to the beach.
I've ordered a shed to be delivered to Camber Sands tomorrow, I'm going to hide it in the sand dunes and use it as a smoking hut.

DioneTheDiabolist · 12/08/2016 22:18

Despite my list (I thought of more after I wrote it) of people that I don't want to share a beach with, I don't want any of them banned. Because I understand that people will annoy me and be annoyed by me. That's life. I'm not so childish that I want the government to interfere to protect my precious sensibilities.

Even if I was minted enough to afford my own private beach, I wouldn't ban people.* But I'd expect them to dispose of their litter.Angry

TuftyFinchy · 12/08/2016 22:19

I agree FulltimeYummy. I would let a bag of crips under the radar and possibly an apple but anything that needs more than 2 fingers to eat/involves adding sauce, should be banned.

Destinysdaughter · 12/08/2016 22:23

Good God lets hope there's never another war, I don't know how some of you lot would cope! Fags would be the least of your problems then...

ThymeLord · 12/08/2016 22:24

But the builders will try to filtch my faaags.

kensausage13 · 12/08/2016 22:25

usual is a beach trolley a thing?

We have just come back from cornwall and almosy every one had a bloody trolley. We were like wtf happened to a deck chair and a bucket? This lot had tents, wind breaks, armchairs, radios, inflatables, beer coolers, tables etc etc.
Our camp felt very inadequate!! Grin

Puzzledandpissedoff · 12/08/2016 22:26

Why on these threads does smoking in a public place always get compared to fat people eventually?

I don't know and agree it's perhaps inappropriate - though I do wonder if it has something to do with the "look how much smokers cost the NHS" thing?

After all, smokers as a group pay far more in tax than their medical treatment costs, the obese not so much ...

I wasn't comparing smoking to fat people. I just don't agree with people eating in public, it's bad mannered.

kensausage if you think Cornwall's bad, you should see 'em on the Californian beaches near where I'm staying at the moment; some of the blasted trolleys are so big you'd expect to see pack ponies, but instead they use a couple of hunky men, sweating and straining their muscles in the sun - which admittedly has its compensations Wink

perrita · 12/08/2016 22:36

Yadnbu! I think smoking should be banned in all public spaces, I don't think anyone should be forced to inhale second hand smoke, especially kids!!

TSSDNCOP · 12/08/2016 22:41

I want a beach trolley.

And a fag, for which ch I blame YOU OP as I gave up 10 years ago. Not wad acts I only ever want one when read these whiney posts about smoking in the open air.

PurpleTango · 12/08/2016 22:52

Purple, yeah it was, actually. The landlord kindly put sealant in between the boards, which helped, but it was still coming in from somewhere - could have been the single glazed sash and cased windows even though mine were closed (the people downstairs smoked with their windows open). Can I ask why you're so determined to not believe that smoking in flats can be a problem for others

I am sure that people smoking in flats can be a problem for others if others want it to be. I don't smoke. I live in a flat. I can't say I have had a problem with other peoples smoke - except for Summer BBQ's. In this instance I swiftly bring my washing in and close my windows. Job done

TuftyFinchy · 12/08/2016 23:04

Usual you put your fags in the picnic basket and, at a push, a scotch egg or two.

PortiaCastis · 12/08/2016 23:08

Well he has a fag

princessmombi · 12/08/2016 23:08

Yanbu its gopping I hate being near smoking and I hate the kids brig e posed to any at all. No sympathy for smokers whatsoever

Smurfnoff · 12/08/2016 23:13

Do a shit in their dinner.

MerchantofVenice · 12/08/2016 23:15

Lots of really amusing instances of smokers being too witty to take this issue seriously on this thread. Well done - you're the cool kids.

By all means, ignore the fact that smoking, even passively, causes deadly cancer. But don't have such a public laugh about the fact that you don't give a shit, maybe?

It's also crap that people think that a valid way to defend smoking is to list a whole load of other anti-social behaviours, as if it is a definite fact that all the people who object to having smoke puffed all over them are busy chucking dirty nappies in the air and encouraging their offspring to shriek profanities into the wind.

Such a depressing thread, and definitely not half as amusing as some posters seem to think.
