Good cheap wine

We have visitors at the weekend, and will need a shed full of wine. Can anyone recommend where I can buy good wine, that won't cost a fortune? Red or white.

What's your budget for "cheap"?

seventhgonickname · 09/08/2016 22:24

I HATE spell check. In

onlyslightlyinterested · 09/08/2016 22:25

Some great tips there. Thanks

There's an ASDA Malbec under £5 that recently won an award;

And Sainsburys have a really good Shiraz (bit metallic but actually very drinkable) for £4 at the mo!

Cheap means, about a fiver a bottle. I know, it's a short cut to a massive hangover

Tesco Picpoul de Pinet is £6 a bottle and really tasty - like a sauvignon blanc but gentler. If you want something fruity/grassy go for whatever Marlborough suave blanc is on offer. I prefer the picpoul though.

It's amazing how much traffic a post about wine gets....😀

Aldi toro loco is less than £4 a bottle and the prosecco is about £5 from memory.

onlyslightlyinterested · 09/08/2016 22:29

Thanks again

May I recommend a 1982 Petrus, Pomerol?

Ktay · 09/08/2016 22:30

Torres Vina Sol is often on offer and quite drinkable

ChameleonCircuit · 09/08/2016 22:31

Aldo Cabalalla or some such odd name. It's red and utterly delicious. Aaaaand....now I want some.

ChameleonCircuit · 09/08/2016 22:31

Aldi, not Aldo. We're not talking shoes.

LegoLady95 · 09/08/2016 22:31

Aldi French malbec £4.39 is lovely. Also their prosecco £5.29 is fab.

onlyslightlyinterested · 09/08/2016 22:32

My head hurts already....may never recover from this weekend😁

If you are near Booths they currently have Petit Chat on offer at £5 in red and white. Looks and drinks like £7+

Claireabella1 · 09/08/2016 22:32

I like Quirky Bird or Ogio Pinot Grigio. Ogio is about a tenner a bottle but always on offer half price somewhere, usually tesco. Quirky Bird is about £5.49 a bottle.

thenightsky · 09/08/2016 22:32

Barefoot disagrees with me (perhaps I drank too much lol).

Best dry sparkly is Tesco own brand cava at £5 a bottle. It's made by Freixenet, which is £10 if bought under their name.

Ktay · 09/08/2016 22:32

Waitrose and ocado both have it for £5.25 atm

onlyslightlyinterested · 09/08/2016 22:34

I bloody love Ohio! But was under the allusion that it was only available at Laithwaites..... because that's what they told me...

I'd be buying boxes-saibsburys do boxes of their own red and white and they're reasonably priced.
