I love my slow cooker when I first got it made stews as I hadn't a clue what else I could make however since then I found out you can make loads

Most people either don't no how to use it or don't really know what you can make

I have make fudge in mine

Chicken wrapped in backed stuffed with cream cheese on a bed of leeks

Also make cakes in mine often it's so moist

Er, would you like a badge or something? Confused

Why do you care how people cook their food?

KingJoffreyLikesJaffaCakes · 28/07/2016 20:42

Yes, the reason we despise them is because we have no idea what to do with them.

I put pond weed and frog's legs in mine and stir madly whilst wearing my pointy hat and scratching my warts. Makes amazing potions.

Atlas15 · 28/07/2016 20:45

They look great I would give you a badge. You are right though. But the recipes I follow for slow cookers still come out shit. How do you know which ones are best? Also do you have a jerk chicken recipe? 😀

VeryBitchyRestingFace · 28/07/2016 20:45

Must. Resist.

GinandJag · 28/07/2016 20:45

I use my slow cooker a lot, but mostly to just keep warm things I have made on the stove. My slow cooker is one you can put on the hob to do your sautéing and browning, which is fab.

My newest acquisition is at the opposite end of the spectrum - a pressure cooker. Loving it so far.

Newes · 28/07/2016 20:46

Slow Cooker Marketing Board branching out, aren't they?

You just have NO imagination as a slogan needs a bit of work.

KingJoffreyLikesJaffaCakes · 28/07/2016 20:46

Do you cook the bodies of your enemies??

What about the hair?,

KingJoffreyLikesJaffaCakes · 28/07/2016 20:47

Can we see a picture of your moist cake??

On Facebook there are slow cooker groups people try things out then give out the recipe to be honest I would say don't use Brest or thigh

Use legs for jerk chicken

Usually people use to much liquid

Thanks.

"Also make cakes in mine often it's so moist"

Ew.

VBRF I couldn't let it pass! shudder

pleasemothermay1 · 28/07/2016 20:50

Oh and you need to season the meat the night before

When I got my slow cooker I used recipes from books and found they often all tasted very slightly the same. Used it rarely.
Found an amazing FB group. Lots of spicy and tasty recipes.
Also hunted online. Started cooking "roast" beef and lamb in slow cooker. Yum.
Pulled pork. Not in sickly BBQ. Mix of herbs and spices coat meat and it sits in stock.
Soup.

TheRealKimmySchmidt63 · 28/07/2016 20:52

*know

ChicRock · 28/07/2016 20:52

Everything I did in my slow cooker was just tasteless bland meh.

And as for it being so easy and just bunging everything in, no it's really not that effortless. Seriously who can be arsed chopping veg and sealing meat in the frying pan at 6am before going to work.

IonaMumsnet · 28/07/2016 20:54

I also struggle with what to make, but DO have one MN recipe I often do from years ago - pork loin, tin of French onion soup, shed loads of garlic, crushed and rubbed all over pork, bit of soy sauce, splash of red wine if you have it. Cook on low for 6-8hrs. It is to a jacket potato what Cagney is to Lacey, I tell you.

Shame to hear that if you get into things it can really save time but clearly not for eveyone

Iona MN. Shame on you!!! You should be extolling the wonders of the slow cooker recipes in the MN cookbook!!!

We were discussing buying a new slow cooker today. I loved our last one until I broke the lid. Can I have your fudge recipe pleeeease?

HoratioNightboy · 28/07/2016 21:00

Good for you, hen.

PurpleDaisies · 28/07/2016 21:00

That sounds delicious Iona.

My current favourite is Mongolian beef...
www.slowcookercentral.com/recipe/mongolian-beef/

I normally add sliced red chilli and serve with baby corn, Mangetout and rice.

Notso · 28/07/2016 21:02

I use mine quite often but have had some disasters. Risotto was grim. A lot of the recipes I see on FB are for things I don't see the point of slow cooking. Cakes, fudge, lasagne don't take much cooking.

Reiltin · 28/07/2016 21:04

I'd love to use mine more. What fb groups do you all recommend?

pleasemothermay1 · 28/07/2016 21:05

Place chocolate, condensed milk and butter into slow cooker on high with the lid off. Stir with a metal or silicon spoon every 15 minutes until melted and turn setting down to low and continue to stir every 15 mins Until firm

Really fun to do with the kids
