I love my slow cooker when I first got it made stews as I hadn't a clue what else I could make however since then I found out you can make loads

Most people either don't no how to use it or don't really know what you can make

I have make fudge in mine

Chicken wrapped in backed stuffed with cream cheese on a bed of leeks

Also make cakes in mine often it's so moist

I would know what to make. But I like to eat freshly grilled meat (4-6 mins in my George Foreman minigrill) and fresh vegetables.

Are you the poster on a certain slow cooking Facebook group who's clearly angling for someone to offer her a book deal? Wink

In all seriousness, I bloody love my slow cooker. Big fan of soups. But I don't get people who go so far as cooking a full English or baked potatoes in them. Best tool for the job people!

KingJoffreyLikesJaffaCakes · 28/07/2016 21:12

I've genuinely never seen a slow cooker.

Am I missing something fabulous??

Or will it turn me into the kind of person who posts her dinner onto the internet? Because I'm not ready for that. Not yet.

Newes · 28/07/2016 21:13

But standing over something remembering to stir it every 15 mins must be a right faff?

PurpleDaisies · 28/07/2016 21:13

They're handy kingjoff but mine hasn't been life changing in the way that I thought it might be.

They're very good for mulled wine at christmas. Smile

TheUnsullied · 28/07/2016 21:14

You can be a slow cooker fan without forcing visuals of your food onto unsuspecting innocents Joff I promise Grin

So, making fudge in a slow cooker is actually more time consuming and faffy than making it in a pan.

PurpleDaisies · 28/07/2016 21:17

Someone said they loved theirs so much they're not replacing their cooker

I don't understand how that could work. Most slow cooker meals need an accompaniment like rice, chips, jacket potatoes, garlic bread or whatever that you have to have a conventional oven for as well.

KingJoffreyLikesJaffaCakes · 28/07/2016 21:17

I made this without a slow cooker.

And here's a non slow cooker cake.

Fuck it, I'm an Internet Dinner Poster. It's okay.

Where's my fucking book deal?

Yes chic-there's no comparison. Normal fudge is quicker, easier and far tastier in my experience.

KingJoffreyLikesJaffaCakes · 28/07/2016 21:18

ChicRock I make fudge in the microwave.

IonaMumsnet · 28/07/2016 21:18

Obviously I am sure ALL the slow cooker recipes in the MN cookbooks are EXCELLENT but you know... mutters something about skillset. Also, not from Mumsnet but still good - Rack of ribs. Bottle of BBQ sauce. Done (as Gordon Ramsay might say).

WaitrosePigeon · 28/07/2016 21:18

It's not that I don't know what to cook, it's the fact it has a really off putting smell. The children can smell it too. It makes my son heave.

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 28/07/2016 21:19

I loathe mine (apart from the fact it's red and matches my kitchen!) - the vegetable are mushy, the meat is anaemic and it all tastes like stew!

puglife15 · 28/07/2016 21:23

It might be good for meat but as I don't eat meat and don't want mushy veg every night: yabu.

AudreyBradshaw · 28/07/2016 21:25

Shock You can make fudge in a microwave?!

(I've never made fudge in any capacity and really want to eat make fudge now!)

cbigs · 28/07/2016 21:27

YANBU that's totally my issue and I'm Shock about making pasty and cakes !!

hidingwithwine · 28/07/2016 21:34

I don't like slow cookers as my SIL's went on fire when she was at work. Thankfully a neighbour called the fire brigade before the dog suffocated. SIL was out of her house for 2 months whilst the insurance redecorated and replaced basically her entire house. They even cleaned all my nephews soft toys from the attic that were stinking of smoke, up two flights of stairs, that's how intense the fire was.

That's why I don't like slow cookers.

TheUnsullied · 28/07/2016 21:34

I like proper fudge but would eat it all in one go if I made it Grin wasn't so fond of the milked-down chocolate concoction that slow cooker fans rave about.

I agree about veg in the slow cooker though so I stick to bolognese, chilli, meats and soups that will be blended.

Joff, that's a fab cake. I'll get back to you about the book deal Wink

SchnitzelVonKrumm · 28/07/2016 21:35

I bought one and signed up to all kinds of groups. Conclusion: you can cook brown stew in it or use it for things that are nicer and easier made in the traditional way. Cake in a slow cooker? Just because you can, doesn't mean you should Grin.

TheFairyCaravan · 28/07/2016 21:42

Why make soup in a slow cooker when you can make it in 20 minutes in a soupmaker?

I hate my slow cooker. I really cba to get tea on at 8am. I rarely fancy the same thing for tea at 5pm as I did at 4pm let alone 8am and everything just tastes mushy and nasty.

There's that Fb group where they put the slow cooker on the night before for porridge. I can't get my head round that. It takes no time at all in the microwave.

TripTrapTripTrapOverTheBridge · 28/07/2016 21:42

I can do all that with a normal cooker....

I use my slow cooker as an acid bath

Mrstumbletap · 28/07/2016 21:43

I'm trying pulled pork in it tomorrow thought, have everything ready and can't wait but it takes 4-8 hours, that's quite a big gap?! Is it 5 or 7?

So many people have said to me the best way to cook a whole chicken is in the slow cooker. I will try that one day.

I loooooove rice pudding from the slow cooker, better than any rice pudding ever, reminds me of my mum.
