You're welcome, Vanilla! (Just 870 now)

TalcAndTurnips · 27/07/2016 21:36

I'm MNing whilst watching Les Revenants on the television. It's a surreal experience.

Online chitty chat v French people coming back from the dead, eating a lot of sandwiches and shagging noisily. I heartily recommend it.

VanillaSugar · 27/07/2016 21:42

I like you talc - you say WHILST not WHILE.

I'm doing a quick cartwheel. DD & her boyfriend have just spent 3.5 weeks in Japan after their A levels and they're only 18. Anyway, they've just landed back at Heathrow and will be home tomorrow hooray hooray!!! I asked her about the disability home murders & she said that everyone there was very shocked, yet very calm...

Funny you should say that Vanilla - I have seen the use of 'whilst' lambasted on threads on MN as something Very Wanky.

There is a place for while, and one for whilst. If, like me, you live in the early nineteenth century, it is second nature.

Let me persuade you to follow my example, and take a turn about the room - I assure you it is very refreshing after sitting so long in one attitude.

TalcAndTurnips · 27/07/2016 21:57

And I am very glad to hear that you will see your daughter tomorrow. I have not seen my eldest for over a month now - miss her a lot.

Bettercallsaul1 · 27/07/2016 22:16

And have you arranged a suitable match for your eldest yet, Talc? Or is she yet unmarried? For I can assure you that any younger gels cannot be considered "out" till she is respectably wed, as I am sure you are well aware. (with apologies to non-JA fans)

TalcAndTurnips · 27/07/2016 22:26

But of course! She courts a dashing young red coat from the -th Regiment of Foot.

He has ten thousand a year and a very pretty little property in -Shire.

Youngest has not yet been presented at Court - her case comes up next Tuesday she is full young to be much in society. And a gobshite.

VanillaSugar · 27/07/2016 22:31

Ah, woe alas, my eldest has run off to Tokyo with Mr Wickham but yet, pray, forsooth, there is no Mr Darcy to save her from ruin!! Do you hear that Mr Bennett? We are ruined, ruined I say!!

There's only university and a career in the civil service betwixt her and the gutter.

Good heavens Lady Sugar - the voyage alone must have taken several months!

I expect that Lord Alan boiled his micturation when he heard the news.

These young girls indeed. University, you say? A rapid route to a hirsute upper lip and a long spinsterhood.

Bettercallsaul1 · 27/07/2016 22:46

Indeed, extended education cannot be recommended for young ladies! It is well known to destroy fertility and is highly frowned upon by the opposite sex as encouraging unnatural ideas of independence!

Bettercallsaul1 · 27/07/2016 22:50

Oh, your poor nerves, Vanilla! You must be suffering such tremblings, such palpitations! I hope Hill is possessed of copious supplies of smelling salts!

TalcAndTurnips · 27/07/2016 22:52

Wise words Better - as long as young ladies can net a purse, dance a Roger de Coverley and paint a fire screen, then they are perfectly fit for married life.

paxillin · 27/07/2016 22:55

Indeed, extended education cannot be recommended for young ladies! I disagree. As a dutiful wife and mother she will find herself on MN one day. You get SLAUGHTERED for wrong commata on here. I did recently.*

*disclaimer: I'm foreign, don't start correcting my English pretty please

Bettercallsaul1 · 27/07/2016 22:58

I hope you have hidden Mr Vanilla's pistols? For he is bound to fight him, you know and then he will be killed and what will become of you all? That crafty Charlotte will have you on the streets within a fortnight.

Bettercallsaul1 · 27/07/2016 23:04

Indeed Talc, although some taskmasters might also consider a facility for music, painting and a thorough knowledge of modern languages essential too. Although, truth to tell, I can hardly number one such prodigy amongst my acquaintance.)

acasualobserver · 27/07/2016 23:06

Place marking.

VanillaSugar · 27/07/2016 23:07

Mr Vanilla forsook his pistols in preference for the clubs. Ye olde golffe clubbes, to be precise, what he doth buy and sell on ye olde ebayye.

Mr Vanilla, I says, haven't ye anything better to do? There's a young laddie arriving tomorrow with your daughter and a month's worth of dirty washing. Yes, wife, he doth respond, I'm off to bed.

sighs

OP posts:
Bettercallsaul1 · 27/07/2016 23:15

I would still urge caution - many a desperate act has been committed with clubs in the absence of pistols! And Mr Vanilla will be wild with fury to avenge the insult to his daughter's honour. Take my heartfelt advice and remove all blunt objects from his sight.

I wish you a restful night and peaceful slumber.

What is the game people keep mentioning?

YOU LOST THE GAME. Also forsooth.

The Game requires everyone in the world to be playing The Game. If you think of The Game you have lost The Game. No one is not playing The Game. If you lose The Game you must declare that you have lost The Game. Thereby contagin of losing The Game.

I had been winning for years. Then I thought of The Game. I had to come on this thread and ruin things for everyone. You are now playing The Game.
