Dh has had the snip 6 years ago. I am 10 days late.

Ok I am never late.

I know I'm not pregnant.

What about after Jesus was born/died? Didn't that change things a bit about who gets to go to heaven?

MargotLovedTom · 24/07/2016 10:32

Hesterton - it's my belief.

cardibach · 24/07/2016 12:30

sashh Adam didn't exist???
Please explain!

eggpoacher · 24/07/2016 12:57

I skipped from page 1 to page 7 - hilarious! Now I'll have to read the full thread just to figure out what the hell happened Confused

Bravada · 24/07/2016 13:23

I seem to recall someone saying that Jesus' "brothers" in Bible were actually half-brothers (from previous wife?) and that Mary never actually had sex with Joseph ever.

Trills · 25/07/2016 07:59

Why would Jesus have no belly button?

Adam and Eve didn't come from a womb, were never attached to a placenta, that makes sense.

If Jesus had no belly button then where was his umbilical cord attached?

BitOutOfPractice · 25/07/2016 08:09

Apart from the parking thread last week morphing into a discussion about Anthony Head, this is the best derail EVER!

Hope op is ok though

TheNaze73 · 25/07/2016 08:20

Agreed Bitoutof

This is so surreal

MiscellaneousAssortment · 25/07/2016 19:19

How come Adam doesn't exist then?

Kinda invalidates the whole original sin thing doesn't it? Which is central to Catholicism I thought?

VenusRising · 27/07/2016 00:52

Trills Jesus as a baby existed in a state of grace, and grew in a halo!
He was the fruit of Mary's womb, and came to be born by budding off like an asexual yeast, that's why he had no belly button, and how she remained a virgin, or something....

Adam and Eve didn't have belly buttons either, neither do teeny tiny Angels, or God.

However Jesus did have his willy circumcised as he was technically Jewish. Hence the sarong cover ups on the cross.
Can't have that reminder there in a Christian church, hence the white wash - blue eyes aryian hair etc. also.
He was most probably short and dark with black curly hair, like most levant dwellers, if he existed at all.

The fruit in the garden of Eden was apparently a pomegranate as apples don't grow that far south. Pomegranates have a stalk, which some might condsider to be a fruity belly button.

The flood was most probably a flash event following the melting of the last ice age. These things do stick in the population's memory apparently.
Like the Dogger Bank.

LucyBabs · 27/07/2016 01:35

Sex is always a sin if you're Catholic.. Even if a baby is conceived in marriage, its possible the woman no mention of the man enjoyed the sex to create the baby..That is the sin Confused

HandsomeGroomGiveHerRoom · 27/07/2016 06:25

Would Mary's childhood friend have got married in a synagogue, or would it have been more like it was among the peasantry here hundreds of years AD when only rich folk married and it was all about property and dynasties?

As you can tell, I'm no historian Blush

HandsomeGroomGiveHerRoom · 27/07/2016 06:27

Oh and the Aramaic word for virgin = girl, that's the same as maiden or maid in English isn't it.

I love this thread. I've learnt so much :)

Butteredparsnips · 27/07/2016 06:30

Handsome yes Jesus, Mary and Joseph were all Jewish too. Christianity didn't exist before Jesus Grin

HandsomeGroomGiveHerRoom · 27/07/2016 06:36

Oh I realise that Grin

But did average Jewish couples back in the day actually marry, in the way we do today, or was it less formal (as I understand it was here centuries later, unless you were landed)?

LaContessaDiPlump · 27/07/2016 06:38

Brilliant thread, although slightly unnerved by the 'vasectomies reverse themselves at 7 years' revelation Confused DH was fixed 3 years ago and we have a history of surprise pregnancies....

tibbawyrots · 27/07/2016 06:48

Jesus, Mary and Joseph were all Jewish too. Christianity didn't exist before Jesus

So had Jesus had a different surname Christianity could have been called something else then?

Actually, Did people have surnames then? Weren't they called things like Brian* of Aramethus and Son of Benjamin?

Mild curiosity has given me my first distraction for the day (what was I looking for?) 😂

*other names are available

Northey · 27/07/2016 06:54

Christ isn't a surname, it's a title, meaning "the anointed one".

green18 · 27/07/2016 07:09

So had Jesus had a different surname Christianity could have been called something else then?

Hmm
tibbawyrots · 27/07/2016 07:16

Thanks northey I truly didn't know that.

Ignoring green's Hmm 💩

davos · 27/07/2016 07:21

That's not the first time I have come across someone who thinks 'Christ' is just a surname. It baffles me.

UnikittyInHerBusinessSuit · 27/07/2016 07:21

I'll always remember my RE teacher telling us "Christ is not a surname. His parents were not "Mr and Mrs Christ of Number 2, The Stables, Bethlehem"". Pretty much the only thing that stuck from all the years of RE lessons and a B grade O level apart from knowing which the Synoptic Gospels are.

Chopstick17 · 27/07/2016 07:29

I can't believe anyone would think that Christ is a surname, apart from a 5 year old.

DesolateWaist · 27/07/2016 07:31

Christ isn't his surname?
Next you'll be telling me that no one knows what the H in the middle stands for.

I know that his surname wasn't Christ

Do people still actually believe in Adam and Eve still? I thought that was agreed as being all made up now.

HandsomeGroomGiveHerRoom · 27/07/2016 07:48

I don't think it's particularly odd that someone might think Jesus's surname was Christ. If you've not given it much thought, weren't brought up with Christianity and you didn't do RE beyond the minimum legally required, it's not an entirely unreasonable.

Ignore the Hmm tibba - there are plenty here who would like religion erased entirely from the curriculum (which would be a great loss imo - and I say that as an atheist).
