To be hurt and totally pissed off with dh asking if i am pregnant

EveOnline2016 · 21/07/2016 00:56

Dh has had the snip 6 years ago. I am 10 days late.

Ok I am never late.

I know I'm not pregnant.

OP posts:
Idliketobeabutterfly · 22/07/2016 23:54

At least I know it is known as that to some.

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 23/07/2016 00:07

crayfish, God plays a long game, obviously. Grin He also includes Elizabeth in there too - because baby John the Baptist in utero knows that Mary is special.

OP, I hope you're ok. Maybe he just thinks 'late=pregnant' without any logical thought?

caroldecker · 23/07/2016 00:44

Surely ones privates deserve a middle name. I know mine do.

Pocketsocks · 23/07/2016 00:46

Now who the fuck is Elizabeth?!
God can't just go around throwing in random characters to the story!

BoxofSnails · 23/07/2016 01:03

Elizabeth = Mary's cousin. Mother of John the Baptist. Infertile for many years then conceived in her late middle age.
The fetus John "jumps within her" at the sound of Mary's voice.

OP how old are you? Are you otherwise well? It's possible you are entering a more erratic phase of life in the perimenopause but DH might not know about that. Do come back!

UnikittyInHerBusinessSuit · 23/07/2016 01:09

Elizabeth is key to the Catholic argument that it's absolutely fine for post-menopausal women to get married and have lots of sex. They aren't being sinful because it is totally possible for God to intervene and give them a miracle baby like Elizabetb so as long as they're not actually using contraception they're having sex for the purpose of procreation and they're sorted.

UnikittyInHerBusinessSuit · 23/07/2016 01:12

I can't imagine why the OP hasn't returned. It seems rude, when we've dedicated ourselves so unceasingly to the resolution of her specific dilemma Grin.

Good luck OP. I assume you're not here because you've been dashing to Superdrug, soaking the sheets and otherwise dealing with the effects of an unexpectedly large perimenopausal period.

WhatTheActualFugg · 23/07/2016 01:13

Are we all agreed that foetuses jumping into virgin wombs and babies going to hell because they descend from Adam who probably thought he was being nice and thoughtful when he ate Eve's apple is all a majorily gigantic crock of bull? Even the Catholics?

Or this that really offensive? Does anyone believe this?

EatsShitAndLeaves · 23/07/2016 01:38

As an atheist I'm a bit disappointed to discover that shagging isn't the Original Sin.

Kind of takes some of the thrill out of it...

Back to business.

My DM got pregnant when I was 10. This was 5 years after DF had a vasectomy.

At the time she was on medication. DF was shocked but - as he is a scientist - held his thoughts apparently until he'd put a "sample" under the microscope and found "swimmers".

The sad end is my DM ended up having a late termination (because it didn't occur to her she might be pregnant - the symptoms of pregnancy she put down to the medical condition she was being treated for at the time and primarily the fact that DF had been sterilised).

She only "realised" when in her second trimester she suddenly started to hate the smell of coffee and remembered that had only happened before when pregnant with me.

The medication she was on was sure to cause terrible (as in non viable) issues from a foetal point of view and termination was strongly advised by the Doctors in the context of her ongoing health issue also. It was an awful time for her an TBH I'm still not sure she's got over this - not that she was in any way to blame.

I'd get a test OP.

I thought James was Jesus's wee brother? Where did he come from if Mary remained a virgin? I always thought that she did the whole stable scene and then sort of got demobbed to allow Jesus to have the normal humble upbringing which made his later achievements more remarkable.

OP, please don't worry too much, we're not machines and a wee blip in the menstrual cycle now and again is fairly normal. I think PP are right, late period=pregnancy is pretty much wired into the hind brain, I think your DH spoke without thinking.

WhatTheActualFugg · 23/07/2016 07:33

EatsShits that's awful and so sad. Sad

I knew that vasectomies could not work, but I don't remember DH telling me they could reverse themselves!!

I'm going to have to go in the pill. I've not used it before - what do I need to know??

WhatTheActualFugg · 23/07/2016 07:36

The OPs question was a fairly reasonable and innocuous one.

Perhaps the OP has a legitimate reason for being unreasonably miffed? Hormones anyone?

SuffolkNWhat · 23/07/2016 07:39

Mary's mother was also born without original sin

ThisisMrsNicolaHicklin · 23/07/2016 07:43

EatsShits, I missed your post in all the theology. So sorry, what a sad story.

Vasectomies can reverse themselves but the rate is in the region of 1% after the all clear dropping to about 1/5000 after 5 years. It's not hugely common but it can happen.

IonaMumsnet · 23/07/2016 12:15

I BRING YOU GLAD TIDINGS OF GREAT JOY!

Just kidding. I don't. But OP we think the solution is obviously to ask yourself WWMD (what would Mary do?). Hope the outcome is a happy one for you, either way.

This is the most interesting derail every seen on Mumsnet, perhaps.

MrsKoala · 23/07/2016 14:02

In art history John the baptiste as a baby is often mistaken for Jesus. He is recognisable by the fact he is usually held by an older lady (his mother Elizabeth) and there is often a lamb near him. Because of the symbolism of the lamb people think it's Jesus, but it isn't. Both have halos and baby JTB will sometimes be pointing upwards towards baby Jesus as if baptising him (so people think it's the other way round and Jesus blessing him). Mary will be recognisable by the fact she is wearing pale blue (and a bottom hat of course!)

Iirc. (I may be a bit hazy on details) See I knew the history of art degree would come in handy! (Only 20 years to wait for it tho Wink )

MrsHathaway · 23/07/2016 14:15

Let's break it down: the concept of original sin and sex for procreation only and Eve's disobedience are all justification for the subjugation of women by men. And that's why it makes no damn sense.

LonnyVonnyWilsonFrickett · 23/07/2016 19:33

I used to be convinced that the Holy Family's surname was Hail, cos of the hymn to St Joseph that went 'Hail holy Joseph hail, husband of Mary, hail'

So maybe the pp who is in shock about calling her lady parts Mary could formalise things a bit and call them her Mrs Hails? It has a nice ring...

EveOnline2016 · 23/07/2016 19:54

Not pregnant and came on this morning.

Sorry for not coming back. I have been so busy not had time for MN

OP posts:
EveOnline2016 · 23/07/2016 19:56

Thanks for the huge derailment I have been laughing so much.

OP posts:
emotionsecho · 23/07/2016 20:12

Glad to hear everything is okay, OP.

No doubt you were rather bemused at the segue your thread took and pleased you saw the funny sideGrin.

MrsHathaway · 23/07/2016 20:13

I hope (and assume) that's the answer you wanted. Time for Wine ?

Did you work out what DH's problem was?

DoJo · 23/07/2016 20:28

OP - I'm really glad that at least one aspect of your tricky situation has resolved itself, and I apologise for inciting the derail and hope that at least the ensuing discussion wasn't in any way actively unhelpful to you.
Have you and your husband sorted through his reaction and how it made you feel?

EveOnline2016 · 23/07/2016 20:58

Yes we have.

OP posts:
KayTee87 · 23/07/2016 21:06

I thought the Aramaic word for virgin also just meant unmarried and that's where the confusion came from re virgin birth?
