Not a discussion on Leave v Remain. That s been done to death.
Now that the decision has been made, and our economy is going to take a massive hit, do you think it is reasonable to ask people to support our own economy now and buy goods which are actually manufactured in Britain?

Well if you want common sense I find it interest that defending was called at this time when the powers that be knew fine well we were heading into a recession .... We were discussing that months and months ago.

HoneyDragon · 01/07/2016 06:38

Find it interesting that the referendum was called

Sorry I'm at the mercy of a glitchy keypad and autocorrect

So many people laughing at the idea of supporting your own country in any way, what the F is wrong with you!

slamdunkthefunk · 01/07/2016 07:30

I feel very ANTI my country right now. Utterly ashamed to be English.

user1467101855 · 01/07/2016 10:38

We're laughing at the idea that you can support your country by buying Japanese cars and artisan cheese, you dope!

Branleuse · 01/07/2016 11:29

who the fuck doesnt employ local tradesmen then , unless youre talking about for massive businesses who ship people over.

I do not ship people over from poorer countries just to fix my boiler.

redhat · 01/07/2016 11:42

I'm finding this thread interesting.

I'm a remainer (as is DH) and my family has already been hit by the loss of two months' work for DH. We are looking at our finances carefully and cutting back wherever possible in anticipation of things getting a lot worse. I am incredibly upset and angry at the sheer ignorance of many of those who voted to leave for ridiculous reasons and because they believed spin without taking the time to consider whether what they were being told was actually true. I am particularly cross at a couple of people close to me who voted out because they thought it would be "interesting to see what happened" and a friend who voted out for purely racist reasons. However, despite the fact that I am incredibly worried about what the future holds, I am still very much of the view that now that recession is almost certain, we should do whatever we can to support British industry. I won't be buying as much of anything, but where I am buying I can only see positives from trying to ensure it's British if possible.

VulcanWoman · 01/07/2016 17:11

you dope! resorting to name calling, you've lost it.

user1467101855 · 01/07/2016 17:13

Thats not name calling, you dope!

I've lost a lot of things, which it do you mean? My EU citizenship? Pride in the country? A better future? A strong Europe? Yes, lost all that, thanks for that!

pointythings · 01/07/2016 17:35

If you think 'you dope' is name calling, you're probably too think-skinned for Mumsnet.

pointythings · 01/07/2016 17:35

'Thin-skinned', even...

GiddyGiddyGoat · 01/07/2016 17:46

Yup, definitely not too think skinned... that's for sure.

pointythings · 01/07/2016 17:50

Abraiid1 · 01/07/2016 17:54

We always buy British food if at all possible. I mean things like meat, eggs, milk, vegs in season, berries, salmon, etc.

Support British farmers, in or out of the EU.

I must admit it was a very weak attempt at name calling but still.
I've been on here a long time, so carry on, fill ya boots.

GiddyGiddyGoat · 01/07/2016 19:51

You're confusing me Vulcan. Do you think being called a dope is 'name calling' (as you stated in your post) or not (as you seem to be stating in your more recent post)??
If you say one thing but actually mean other it's... confusing... a bit like Boris saying one thing but meaning something quite different it would appear.

Here's an idea - try being straightforward and honest - you might like it!

I call my children dopes, its more a term of endearment than an insult.

Logic says that UK foods should become less expensive comparatively (i.e their price shouldn't be as affected as the imported food which will now be more expensive because of the weak pound). So all in all the cost of our supermarket shop goes up but the British produce becomes a better option than the overseas imports.

I am interested in the prepping community (although I only really dabble by having extra beans and some torches and basic supplies etc in the cupboard) and on a number of forums there has been a fair amount of bulk buying in anticipation of an increase in food prices.

sunnyspot · 02/07/2016 08:37

For the last time User, it is not just buying " Japanese cars and fancy cheeses " as you keep taking great pleasure in snidely remarking. It is supporting companies / manufacturers who CREATE EMPLOYMENT IN THIS COUNTRY. Honda, Toyota , Nissan
etc do - whether assembled or manufactured- they still create employment. And I used Brie jjustas an example. Insert any cheese made in Britain , cheddar etc, indeed any food/ non food item when possible.
Again I say I have good friends working in these industries who, as you and I did, voted Remain but are likely to lose their jobs.
Yes I may be being naive, and it is only a suggestion ,but for me personally it is a much healthier response to the anger we are both feeling than sticking 2 fingers up to this country now.

Yanbu. I always buy local produce (which by definition is British) as its better for th environment (less transport) and you can't beat British Strawberries, raspberries etc
