Not a discussion on Leave v Remain. That s been done to death.
Now that the decision has been made, and our economy is going to take a massive hit, do you think it is reasonable to ask people to support our own economy now and buy goods which are actually manufactured in Britain?

I have always bought fruit and veg that's come from my own region wherever possible - for environmental reasons, not patriotic ones. And I prefer Somerset Brie to the French kind. The British make some damn good cheese these days (I'm Dutch) living in the UK.

But for the rest of it I will buy what I damn well please and not care a jot about supporting a country that has chosen not to support me.

To those saying "support your country" could you please answer a coupe lot questions:

Who are you addressing? British people, white English or all people currently living in the UK that would include all immigrants, EU and non-EU? Please clarify, thank you.

Also, will you (Brexters) campaign actively against elite private schools such as Eton seeing that UK politics and business is controlled by them and seeing that leave voters wanted to take back control in support of, among other things, the 'working classes' (whoever qualifies as that). IMO the EU was flipping great counter balance to the elite that is most of UK politicians, that include NF.

So,

who should support British business
and
Will leave voters actively campaign against elite schools in the UK to distribute power more evenly between all?

Oibeer · 30/06/2016 14:48

*coupe lot couple of / stupid AC

Oibeer · 30/06/2016 14:49

Apologies, am muddling things up:

  1. Who are you addressing when you say " support your country"?
&
  1. Will leave voters actively campaign against elite schools in the UK to distribute power more evenly between all?

many thanks.

MangoMoon · 30/06/2016 15:37

Support your country:
For me, everybody who is in our country is part of our country.

Campaign against elite schools:
For me, no.
If people want to pay for private schooling, then that's their business.

Oibeer · 30/06/2016 15:46

Thank you Mango Thanks

OurBlanche · 30/06/2016 15:58

It isn't as complicated as you might think.

I started buying local fresh produce, easy as I live in an agricultural area that grows lots of fruit and veg. I also toyed with seasonal, not quite as easy as you think, they keep changin gthe seasons with polytunnels.

Then I did food miles, again easy as there is a local small abbatoir. This has meant that for a lot of produce the food miles were less than 20 mile, inclding the journey home. But that isn't possible everywhere.

So I looked again and found one of those FB thingies that struck a cord. £5 a week wouldn't bankrupt any of the big players but would save your local shops, small businesses, your next door neighbours.

Haven t read whole thread, but thanks Mango and all the others who understand what I am trying to say. Sorry you ve had a hard time too.
I also think it is counter productive to deliberately stick 2 fingers up to British manufactured/ assembled goods just because a MINORITY of British people voted out.
Thousands of those who stand to lose their jobs voted Remain and need our support more than ever. Many are good friends of mine who work in manufacturing, voted Remain , and are worried sick.

I think some of you would like the country to fail so you can be proved right. Hmm

Yes, indeed, we all want to lose our jobs, kick out our friends and neighbours, and fucking starve in the street just so we can say We Were Right!

Hmm Hmm Hmm

We already know we were right, just look around you!

Melodramatic much, calm the F down, seriously.

VulcanWoman · 30/06/2016 22:11

Careful is doesn't become a self-fullfilly prophecy.

user1467101855 · 30/06/2016 22:14

Bollocks to that, its already happened. We told you what a mess would happen but you voted out anyway. This isn't a time to calm down, if you're calm you clearly havent grasped what deep shit we are all in!

So what are you going to do, carry on freaking out or get a grip and get on with your life.

user1467101855 · 30/06/2016 22:21

This is our lives. Again, if you're not freaking out you don't have a clue what's going on.
Blissful ignorance might be nice for you but its not much use for getting shit done.

VulcanWoman · 30/06/2016 22:35

I'll be getting on with my minimum wage job, thanks very much.

user1467101855 · 30/06/2016 22:38

You do that, while you still have one, and hope that you can still afford food at all next year, let alone the fancy British cheese you're supposed to buy to help the economy. And the car, don't forget!
