I voted Leave but don't deserve abuse for it !!!!

Yesterday I voted to leave after months of thought about all the main issues regarding membership.

I decided to leave based on sovereignty, I don't want a closer EU/United States Of Europe. I don't want my son to be in an EU army.

Immigration and economics for me were lesser issues. But still influenced my vote.

The names on here and Twitter that have been directed at leave voters has astonished me.

I am not uneducated, racist or xenophobic. I simply want the best for my country and that IMO is leave and I am overjoyed with the victory today against all odds.

Maybe if those on the remain side looked more into the arguments instead of name calling it would have been a different result.

It shocks me that labour supporters on Twitter are saying these horrible names against leave voters, but they need us to get their seats in the north, I don't think it is a good idea to insult your own base.

Even on mumsnet rhetoric has been appalling, I have had posters say they can't bring themselves to speak to leave voting parents.

Why can't you just accept maybe that leave possibly has a better campaign/arguments.

This idea that many leave voters regret the vote is wrong, everyone I know who voted leave is in a joyous mode today.

Can we just move on now and accept the result instead of insulting 52% of the population.

People are angry with you because they feel that you and the rest of the leave voters have fucked up their country, their futures and their children's futures. That seems pretty reasonable to me.

It wasn't a malicious plan, I don't I think I've made Britain better.

those of us working class stuck on zero hours cuase of immigration just get told no hours care to explain that statement to this working class person who is also an immigrant?

borntohula · 24/06/2016 21:15

people are understandably angry

mountaintoclimb · 24/06/2016 21:16

There are some very nasty people on here tonight. No matter how upset you feel you have no right to act as playground bullies towards people who have exercised their democratic rights. Shame on you.

NataliaOsipova · 24/06/2016 21:16

Just wait until Scotland has a second independence referendum and votes out. Labour supporters won't need you at all...there'll be a permanently Tory government in England and Wales. Look at the electoral maths....

georgetteheyersbonnet · 24/06/2016 21:17

But OP, will you be sad when we are no longer the UK? Or Great Britain? No British flag any more?

We won't be able to continue calling ourselves that once Scotland leaves. No ifs or buts: that's our constitution. The UK/Great Britain will cease to exist. Zip, nada, consigned to an artefact of history. We don't get it back. Once Scotland leaves, you no longer live in Great Britain or the UK. You can't magic the names back. They are descriptive terms, they cease to exist.

Did you realise that the country you talk about will not be the same country as a near-certain result of this vote?

Sallystyle · 24/06/2016 21:17

Aww poor you OP

(Pats head)

If you want to move on then why start a fucking thread about it?

Enjoy the thought of your better future, it won't last long.

How am I supposed to vote based on other people. I can only vote based on my own circumstances

Some people vote according to what's best for the country in general, or the most vulnerable members of society, rather than what's best for them. It's a crazy concept but it's not a new one.

venusinscorpio · 24/06/2016 21:17

Please, do elaborate on these arguments for voting leave the people who voted remain should all look into. What's going to happen now then OP? So glad you can reassure us it's not all going to go to shit.

twelly · 24/06/2016 21:18

Democracy ,and a democrat ice society. The insults say more about those who utter them

borntobequiet · 24/06/2016 21:18

Oh you do. Sadly, you still don't understand why.

How am I supposed to vote based on other people. I can only vote based on my own circumstances. If others may lose their jobs that's up to them to vote based on that

It's possible to not be a massive selfish twat and vote more what is best for society as a whole. I'm better off under a Conservative government because I'm rich 'comfortable' and not disabled and I currently don't need a great input from health, social services or justice. I don't vote Conservative for my own selfish interests because I want to live in a society that values equality of opportunity and protecting the vulnerable and education and the arts and health. Imagine if we all voted for 'me first'. FFS.

PNGirl · 24/06/2016 21:18

I can't wait for all the prosperity that awaits us with job losses, a strain on taxes to pay all that JSA, the ailing pensioners coming back from Benidorm to use the NHS, higher prices of shoes and clothes, and expensive holidays/travel insurance without the EHIC card. Yaaaaay. Thanks OP!

PaulDacresMicroPenis · 24/06/2016 21:19

Of course it will userwhocantbearsedtoregisterproperly, if you're hoping for your zeros hours to change to getting up at 4am to pick fruit or wipe arses for your benefits then you've ticked the right box

georgetteheyersbonnet · 24/06/2016 21:20

pauldacresmicropenis haha :)

-- except that we don't even get to call ourselves Little Britain! Historically that referred to Brittany. "Great Britain" was a term coined at the Acts of Union as a kind of neo-archaism referring to the ancient use of "Britaine" as a name for the entire island of England, Wales and Scotland.

It simply ceases to exist the moment the Acts of Union are dissolved.

AmyWatt1972 · 24/06/2016 21:20

I don't care about Scotland, if it leaves good riddance.

It's ironic hearing about people afraid of losing their jobs when a whole bunch of people don't have a job because they are bringing groups of immigrants from Poland and Romania to do the jobs they desperately need.
Come and have a look at The North wc and towns of degeneration, small terraced houses with up to ten men, living on next to nothing to send their wages and cb back home.
At least you have a job.

I didn't vote, not sure what I would have chosen, but like to see things from both sides.

BombadierFritz · 24/06/2016 21:21

Yes, once scotland leave we are also looking at permanent conservative rule i would imagine (unless of course we get a more far right alternative). Awesome.

emeraldlakes · 24/06/2016 21:22

Of course you don't deserve abuse for the way you voted OP. I'm shocked at many of the things I've read today from some Remain voters. Not everyone agrees with the vote but at least keep things civil, there's no need for name calling for god's sake.

Cheeseinthetrap · 24/06/2016 21:23

EU Army? Do you hear yourself, you've just helped break up the Union & have plunged us all into chaos, you should be embarrassed & ashamed not expecting sympathy. Angry

ohgoshIdontknow · 24/06/2016 21:23

Haven't RTFT but no OP, YANBU.

I voted Leave and I'm bloody over the moon! We danced in the kitchen this morning and will celebrate with a toast to British sovereignty tomorrow.

The Remain campaign was vitriolic and nasty and this has made me particularly glad we won.

MumOnTheRunCatchingUp · 24/06/2016 21:24

Yanbu op.... Not one little bit!

Sore losers

BombadierFritz · 24/06/2016 21:24

"May you live in interesting times" is a curse not a blessing you know

Hamishandthefoxes · 24/06/2016 21:24

Leave wanted to put the 'great ' back into Great Britain. Shame they won't have a Britain anymore. 'Little England' anyone?
