there seems to be a trend on here sometimes for some people to follow the 'popular choice' on subjects that might be controversial, some will stick their heads over the parapet and risk getting flamed but most will stick to the 'right' choice. i bet there are posters on here today who voted to leave, saw the slagging off and decided to declare themselves as remain.
just a thought - ready for my hair singeing ! Smile

I voted remain. Feel depressed today

Cubtrouble · 24/06/2016 18:52

I love the fact people think if you voted leave you have to be old, poor and uneducated.

Beer bellied, beer swilling, football shirt wearing ranty low-life's who don't give a shit. People are actually sat there playing armchair politics thinking that! All of a sudden everyone's a political mastermind.

Have some guts and determination.

I am sickened?
I am ashamed of being British?
I feel sick to my stomach?
I feel so scared?

Really? Grow a pair! Little kids in boats fleeing their war torn country, they feel scared. You live in one of the greatest countries on earth and your scary and want to play hidey behind the legs of Europe?

Stand there and take it. That's what democracy does. WE voted. The majority won. We are leaving the European Union. We should leave with our heads held high.

Ashamed to be British my arse.

pluck · 24/06/2016 18:58

I voted remain.

StealthPolarBear · 24/06/2016 18:59

I did, or at least I intended to. As I left I had the usual "have I crossed the wrong box?" panic

NerrSnerr · 24/06/2016 19:00

I mentioned this on another thread, what about the people of Gibraltar? They're going to be forced into joint sovereignty with Spain because Spain are basically going to stop all trading with them. This is something that 98% of the people of Gibraltar voted against a couple of years ago.

They have been massively fucked over by people from their own country and no one seems to give a shit.

notamummy10 · 24/06/2016 19:01

I did... I'm part of the 75% that voted remain in the 18-24 category.

Cubtrouble · 24/06/2016 19:01

Why should we make it?

Why shouldn't we make it the best? We have democracy, we have a national health service which is fantastic, we have a fantastic education system, we have jobs if we want them, we have a benefit system, we look after children, the old, the sick, the needy.

WE care.

But things could be better. We have the ability to do all of those things, build our economy, grow, research, develop and build more of an education system, a better more efficient health care system and do these things without red tape.

Or of course we could sit there whining half the country is thick and an arsehole.

imwithspud · 24/06/2016 19:02

What gives you the right to diminish other people's feelings based on today's result? There will always be people worse off, sadly that doesn't stop other people feeling how they feel. People could lose their jobs and homes over this, I'd say people have a right to feel worried/scared/ashamed.

Ashamed to be British my arse.

Some of the comments from some (note: I said SOME) leavers do make me ashamed to be British. There was a woman on the local news earlier claiming she couldn't find housing for her and her 6 children, it was all the immigrants' fault and that's why she voted leaveHmm Why wouldn't ridiculous comments like that make me embarrassed? Awful comments like that don't represent my views in the slightest.

MouseholeCat · 24/06/2016 19:02

I voted remain. 75% of my constituency voted remain. 60% of my city voted remain, 75% of people my age voted remain. I'm devastated.

Earlier I felt angry, but I've realised the positives: that my generation is politically engaged and compassionate, and that the teens who couldn't vote today are politically literate and passionate. Thankfully, the social exclusion and disillusionment that I feel led to this outcome have been broken down by increased social mobility and access to education over the past few decades.

We might feel right now that everything is going against us as our numbers can't equal the baby boomers, but eventually our voices will be heard and we'll be exercising democracy in a way that works for us, and for future generations.

Donatellalymanmoss · 24/06/2016 19:08

mouseholecat well said. If one good thing comes out of this it would be awesome if it the politicisation of younger people. I would be over joyed if the power of the 'grey' vote decreases at the next election.

catmummy1 · 24/06/2016 19:12

I voted remain

Cubtrouble · 24/06/2016 19:12

You should be able to vote at 16 years old.

FrancesNiadova · 24/06/2016 19:25

I voted remain.....
The turkeys have voted for Christmas.....

Sad
gonetoseeamanaboutadog · 24/06/2016 19:32

I voted remain. There has been a division along age, education and class among people I know. I was surprised to see it.

On a tangent, I'm disgusted that Iain Duncan Smith has just said (on BBC news channel) that he's been in office (paraphrasing there) and 'has the stab wounds to prove it'. Unintentional I'm sure but still.

LassWiTheDelicateAir · 24/06/2016 19:32

I voted remain. I've said that consistently on all threads pretty vote.

I'm very proud that my city, Edinburgh, is the most Europhile city in the UK.

I was at the Highland show at Ingliston today. Every single person I spoke to was in shock today.

GravitasFreeZone · 24/06/2016 19:35

I voted remain too. Only one of the few who did in East Sussex, also one of the "stupid elderly," in my 7th decade. Absolutely gutted.

Brokenbiscuit · 24/06/2016 19:45

I voted remain. Am truly gutted that we lost.

mupperoon · 24/06/2016 19:46

My husband and I voted Remain for the sake of our 2 year old. I feel like the doors to the world have been slammed shut with us on the wrong side.

Never before has the word insular sounded so like an insult to me.

KittensForBreakfast · 24/06/2016 19:46

I voted remain!

abbsismyhero · 24/06/2016 19:48

i voted remain im an unemployed single parent

derxa · 24/06/2016 19:48

I was at the Highland show at Ingliston today. Every single person I spoke to was in shock today. I bet they were. I'm a Scottish farmer and can't believe this result.

We were there showing our sheep yesterday and then stayed up all night to watch the results so too knackered to go today.

Iwasbornin1993 · 24/06/2016 19:54

I voted remain and was genuinely shocked with the results this morning Sad.

waterfallsandmountains · 24/06/2016 19:54

I voted remain and had never wavered from my opinion in all the months leading up to the referendum. I sat up all night and most of today watching the news unfolding in front of me in complete disbelief.

Yes I am ashamed and sad to be British this morning and feel completely devastated by the result.
