Fiancé always decides to snap at me in front of family

Hey guys. This is actually really getting me down. I am such a family person and I would do anything for my family. When my family are all together my other half can't resist having a pop at me in front of them. He's not a bad guy, we have a child and another on the way, but he just has no filter whatsoever. If something irritates him, he just says it. Doesn't matter who is in the room. Whereas I would be mortified to do anything of the sort. If he annoys me I would keep shtum and maybe raise it later. It makes everyone so uncomfortable. And it's always about little stuff. Today we went round to have Sunday Dinner at my mams after he had gotten lovely pressies for Father's Day. She cooked us a lovely meal, I asked him did he want Diet Coke, he said yes please, then he said IF YOURE GOING TO ROLL YOUR EYES THEN ILL POUR IT MYSELF. I was stunned. I did nothing of the sort. No one knew where to look. We ate dinner in almost silence. Once we left then I had it out with him. He apologized said he's really tired (eh me too) said he shouldn't have snapped, he thought I rolled my eyes at him. It all sounds so petty but this happens all the time. It's so embarrassing.

Its another way to take the mickey if their posts are anything to go by.

MistressDeeCee · 20/06/2016 17:06

Nobody's said that, Mistress. Nobody's said she should shut up

User - if you are intimating that when somebody is shamed, embarassed, belittled by their partner in public, disrespecting her and also her family by association and there could be a justifiable reason for that unpleasant behaviour then yeah, you are basically saying the victim should shut up. Seeking explanations to quantify unreasonable behaviour being ok? What for? The bottom line is - its inexcusable behaviour. Period.

No reasonable man shames his father in law. Once would have been bad enough but he does it every time.

MistressDeeCee · 20/06/2016 17:11

Oh - so he should get a free pass for dissing her and her family? Your book has its pages backwards. What does it have to do with being a woman anyway? Disrespectful attention seeking arses are who they are, its not specific to gender.

Although if you are in the habit of aiming to embarass people in front of others or liking/accepting it done to you then I suppose you could have a point. Some people are brawlers and that kind of thing is fine for them

mathanxiety · 20/06/2016 17:11

Amen to that Lovewineandchocs. There was all sorts wrong with that post of User's.

I suspect that many of the arguments between the OP and her H happen because she is unable to get him to understand her pov or the gravity of the situation. I suspect he refuses to accept that she has feelings on his treatment of her. (This is clear from his 'apology').

Lovewineandchocs · 20/06/2016 17:12

It isn't at all childish, user, especially when there are children involved-a family holiday with cousins and grandparents can be brilliant. We've done it with both my DHs family and mine. We don't consider this to be in the least childish. We don't do it every year and it isn't our only holiday-but neither has the OP said it's hers.

We don't have any idea if it was reasonable or not, as the OP won't give any more information.

Inkanta · 20/06/2016 17:15

User - I can't take your post seriously.

Just feel aggressive to me.

Best not to feed it.

Lovewineandchocs · 20/06/2016 17:18

Agreed navy and primal

Inkanta · 20/06/2016 17:20

There was a User this weekend causing some problems - not saying it was you but it's best to get a proper name.

MistressDeeCee · 20/06/2016 17:20

It's a pity that the OP isn't open to the fact that there's probably a very logical explanation for all of this

Biscuit

You need a whole packet. Not nice jaffa-cakey ones either. Bog standard value digestive

I find a woman I work with quite annoying. I may pop in tomorrow and find a way to embarass her in front of colleagues. The "logical explanation" being that I don't find her so likeable so, I'll just act as I like and hey, she or anybody else shouldnt say anything about my uncouth behaviour, just sit in awkward embarassed silence. I shall justify it by being tired and in a mood..easy to explain away

SuperFlyHigh · 20/06/2016 17:20

abusive twat. I know what I'd be planning on doing. LTB

PrimalLass · 20/06/2016 17:23

But you have no idea if he is actually abusive, as we've had one example of him being a bit irritable in front of people then getting a barrage of abuse from the OP.

Very strange thread, if it's true then I guess that the OP isn't willing to give any more information because she knows that she'll lose sympathy.

SuperFlyHigh · 20/06/2016 17:30

Navy - actually I would say that - a very twattish thing for him to say, he won't change and it'll get worse. emotional abuse which I have suffered myself.

I'd be making plans to LTB.
