I didn't know of her before today but this news has devestated me for some reason. Watching the news I couldn't stop crying.

I just keep thinking of her poor kids.

Yes, and yet they seem to pop up in discourse with depressing frequency. As if being upset by or caring about something is worthy of derision.

WhiskyTangoFoxtrot · 18/06/2016 21:31

No-one has scribbled on the first, almost identically titled, AIBU thread.

I think the issue here is multiple near-identical threads, not the condolences, which continue unabated on the original thread and on various ones in chat.

fusionconfusion · 19/06/2016 09:47

To be fair, none of those popped up in my active list at the time this thread started. This is the first thread I saw on this and I have only seen one other. Not all of us spend our lives on here.

Watchingdallas · 19/06/2016 15:21

We are still discussing threads I see !

Some incredible posts here by redtoothbrush and longweek. Lots of Flowers from me.

All too too sad.

Going to post this again below because perhaps a way to postively respond to this awful awful thing:

On Jo Cox's birthday this Wednesday, show the world that we have far #moreincommon with each other than that which divides us.

Across the world, we will gather together to celebrate Jo's life, her warmth, love, energy, passion, flair, Yorkshire heritage, and her belief in the humanity of every person in every place, from Batley and Spen to Aleppo and Darayya.

London: 4pm - 5pm, Trafalgar Square

Jo believed that there is more that unites us than divides us, and she was killed for those beliefs. She believed in a love that is fierce, brave and humble. Her death has devastated a family, and attacked the ideals that we as a nation most cherish.

But we will not be divided. We will rise up together to carry Jo's message forward. We will meet hate with love.

On the day Jo would have been 42, we are asking everyone, everywhere to love like Jo loved.

Jo's legacy is a direct challenge to everyone here, to take part, speak up and be a voice for the voiceless, to treat even those we disagree with with tolerance and genuine respect.

Let's honour Jo on Wednesday by carrying forward the message that she now symbolises around the world - that we have #moreincommon than that which divides us.

These events are being organised by a global network of Jo's friends and colleagues, in close collaboration with her family.

If you are unable to join one of these events, please consider celebrating Jo by donating to her fund at gofund.me/jocox

red I loved your post. It was heartfelt.

If only us passionate MNetters could find our way into politics. I feel everyone on these threads - whether for or against the EU - is informed, intelligent and completely motivated by the need to improve things for everyone

Politics is out of reach for most of us though. We are mothers, we are stressing about mortgages and bills.

And so it continues....

RedToothBrush · 19/06/2016 22:51

Rooner, thank you. That actually means a great deal.

I completely and utterly appreciate what you say about:
Politics is out of reach for most of us though. We are mothers, we are stressing about mortgages and bills.

I'm there. Frustrated. It sucks.

That's it though. I think there are many ways to get political. We just have to be imaginative about that. I do think even being a keyboard warrior or talking about things in real life has value at times, if you can channel it right.

I have to keep reading myself of it though.

I'm watching this now on the news.
It is the very definition of a terrorist attack yet the media are skipping around it.
