To actually hate most things about UK summers

Where do I start?

Flys. In the house, shitting everywhere. Sitting on my fruit and playing bloody games with me.

Sweating. I can't go for a walk, do the school run without looking a sweaty mess. I never know what to wear either as its cloudy first thing then baking hot later. The gym is not a nice place to be and neither is actually going for a run.

Sun cream. Sticky and horrible. Kids hate having it on. I hate putting it on them.

Sunhats. On afore mentioned kids. Won't keep them on.

BBQs. Horrid. Too much meat, rolls going crispy where they've been left out. Sweaty cheese. Limp, warm salads.

Smug people sat outside pubs because they can

Everyone saying isn't the weather lovely.

Roll on Autumn. AIBU?

Oh my god my people! Sick of all the fb statuses and suchlike going oooohhh so happy it's warm!

I hate it warm. I want it to be winter so I can have tea and cake on my sofa without being made to feel bad for not being outside.

I also don't get how it's perfectly OK for everyone to moan and moan if it's raining or cold but if you complain about the heat suddenly you're a miserable fucker.

I have huge boobs and dressing coolly in the summer is miserable for me. Even worse this year as I'm breastfeeding!

squoosh · 09/06/2016 10:55

Hating summer is a MN requirement. Along with hating weddings and being very introverted.

Does this mean that all of you people who hate summer don't go on holidays abroad in the Summer? Do you do winter destinations?

dividedmansions · 09/06/2016 11:22

petit I go to hot places sometimes because I love the sea and because DH likes summer but I'd much much prefer to go to cold places. Iceland in winter was my best holiday.

dividedmansions · 09/06/2016 11:23

I do have huge boobs.

I think however that "huge" varies widely depending on who you are. Mine are a H cup. That is huge.

A D cup on the other hand is not (IMO).

Peppermintea · 09/06/2016 11:25

YANBU

I love Autumn because I know we are at the start of a good 9 month stretch of cloudy inclement weather! Grin

Goldenhandshake · 09/06/2016 11:28

YANBU, my list of Summer peeves:

The London Underground - metal boxes of humidity filled with sweaty, sticky, smelly people even during winter, become actual death boxes during Summer.

Nature, in general. Hay fever, wasps, flies. Just ugh.

The flesh that comes out is just unnecessary.

Kids wanting ice creams form the sodding ice cream van that they then either drop or manage to get all over themselves; in their hair, between their fingers, yuck.

NuggetofPurestGreen · 09/06/2016 11:28

petit I would never go somewhere just because it's hot (never been on a sun holiday). I've been to hot places such as Australia when it's hot due to family stuff but would choose to go when it's cooler (if Christmas didn't fall in middle of summer for example).

MiffleTheIntrovert · 09/06/2016 11:28

Cleanasawhistle sorry I meant to post this before! I lost most of my hair earlier this year and it's been driving me mad. I don't know what type of wig you have but if you have a real human hair one I found it a bit cooler than the "artificial" ones. I've also experimented with silk scarves (held on by Kirby grips). The best thing I've found at the moment is a cotton narrow scarf/headband with wire so you can twist it into "bunny ears" or a knot on top of my head. I'll try and post a pic.

I'd love a big straw sunhat but I look like a twat in big hats as I'm small and my head is like a child's Blush Im sure you are more normal looking than me though Grin and would look nice in a big straw sunhat and sunnies?

NuggetofPurestGreen · 09/06/2016 11:30

I like when it's warm and sunny but would prefer if it stayed at 20 degrees and didn't get warmer.

The scarves I meant are sort of like this. I know they look sort of retro (which I like Wink) but if you have different colours they look more modern and summery. Apologies if I'm teaching you to suck eggs :)

In terms of the where do you go on summer holidays question, cold places, obviously! Grin

Best holiday ever was arctic circle in winter, swimming in an ice hole... It's my happy place to go back to in my head during the sweaty, midgey, humid, bleurgh that is summer.

And like the other very wise wonderful people on here, I truly never moan about rain, ice, snow, fog, cold, I quite like all of those!

xandra588 · 09/06/2016 12:20

YADNBU! I prefer autumn since to me it's more beautiful and it's not fricking hot, and you're not boiling.

CeriClark · 09/06/2016 12:22

I hate the summer for different reasons. My husband says I burn in reflected sunlight! The slightest bit of sun and I have to retreat to the inside or wear hoodies, hats and gloves. Hate it. The kicker is I am allergic to sun creams and if I get too hot I also get a reaction. I want snow! :)

gingerboy1912 · 09/06/2016 12:30

I'm torn I fecking hate the build up to xmas and the drab depressing months of Jan and Feb it all really gets me down. I get migraines in spring, but then I love the colours of summer, the birds singing, the light mornings and warm balmy evenings. All 4or 5 of them but I also work in a hospital and nearly die of bloody heat exhaustion every shift. But I love the fact that you can dry washing on the line and buy new potatoes. In the words of Natalie imbroglio (sp?) from neighbours, I'm Torn!!

cleanasawhistle · 09/06/2016 12:41

MIFFLETHEINTROVERT......Thank you so much,I love those little scarves / headbands, I will look online and order some.

I am so grateful that my hair is growing back (because I know its not the case for everyone) but it really is shocking at the moment, a bit like an old ladies shampoo and set .

Lets hope the weather cools down soon, roll on Autumn.

MaryMcCarthy · 09/06/2016 12:44

What makes you think people sat in beer gardens are smug?

They're just having a good time.

They're not making assumptions about your mindset so don't make assumptions about theirs.

Sounds like you've been to some rubbish BBQs too.

pigsDOfly · 09/06/2016 12:51

It's much cooler in my area today. The sun is shinning and there's a cool breeze. It's still warm but not overwhelming hot. That's my kind of summer.

And it was cool enough to take the dog for a walk mid morning. Perfect weather.

NicknameUsed · 09/06/2016 12:51

"Roll on Autumn. AIBU?"

Yes. Very

I love summer Grin

coco1810 · 09/06/2016 12:54

I would like to add:

*panting dog that follows me EVERY FREAKING WHERE just incase I find a patch of shade.

*Hay fever: Inability to breathe at all until September.

*Random nosebleeds and trips up to A&E to have veins in my nose sealed.

Asthma attacks: Sat in A&E with DS on a Friday/Saturday night surrounded by drunks!

Cricket Whites...... Grass stains face palm

Chavvy neighbours come out of hibernation to hold classy bbq's that nearly always end up in a scrap!

Lastly, the all day drinkers who stagger through the supermarket I work nights in on the hunt for even more alcohol!

Rock on Autumn!
