To actually hate most things about UK summers

Where do I start?

Flys. In the house, shitting everywhere. Sitting on my fruit and playing bloody games with me.

Sweating. I can't go for a walk, do the school run without looking a sweaty mess. I never know what to wear either as its cloudy first thing then baking hot later. The gym is not a nice place to be and neither is actually going for a run.

Sun cream. Sticky and horrible. Kids hate having it on. I hate putting it on them.

Sunhats. On afore mentioned kids. Won't keep them on.

BBQs. Horrid. Too much meat, rolls going crispy where they've been left out. Sweaty cheese. Limp, warm salads.

Smug people sat outside pubs because they can

Everyone saying isn't the weather lovely.

Roll on Autumn. AIBU?

I am an introvert too...interesting.

Thought of another one - I love to burn scented candles and all the summer scents are shit. Give me your cinnamon apple pumpkins!

UterusUterusGhali · 08/06/2016 22:06

People sat enjoying pub gardens?

I used to work nights every weekend.
Can you imagine driving past those smug fuckers every fucking week?

Smug boozy bastards.

witsender · 08/06/2016 22:21

I don't do heat. I like to sit in the shade, in something light and long sleeved, watching everyone else in the sun. Grin I cheat and put a coat of my spf50 face primer stuff on the kids first thing, then persuade them into extra swipes elsewhere later. That is my biggest bugbear tbh, suntan lotion. I'm so paranoid about them burning I obsess over it.

I much prefer a cool, crisp day, a woolly jumper and a fire in the evening.

MsMermaid · 08/06/2016 22:22

I hate the summer too. My classroom gets sooooooo hot, due to the crappy design of having a whole wall of windows that face the sun and don't open. The "fan" that was supposed to help with the heat hasn't worked ever since it was installed 10 years ago and my own pedestal fan just circulates hot air (and blows papers off pupils desks). I also can't wear properly cool clothes because I can't find any that are professional looking in my size Sad.

I hope it starts raining soon.

witsender · 08/06/2016 22:23

The only bit about it that I like is the beach. We are a stone's throw from lots of amazing beaches, and tend to end up there most days, especially as the kids don't go to school. They're just at the age where some sand and a bucket will keep them entertained for hours!

RatherBeIndoors · 08/06/2016 22:31

I am entirely with you. Twenty-effing-six degrees and two thousand per cent humidity all week so far, the DC won't sleep, I am beyond grumpy, hate the bright sunlight, hate being too hot, hate all the gardening required, literally count down the days until September as soon as we get through Spring eighty four to go people

cleanasawhistle · 08/06/2016 22:38

I hate summer too, always have but this summer and last summer have been a nightmare for me.....

I lost my hair due to chemo spring last year, my comfort zone has been bobble hats and beanies, or a wig.It is far too hot to wear either and I hate the scarves.

My hair is growing but has come back with the tightest curls,so I have short curly hair, looks like I have had a perm......not a good look and I am not going out looking like this. Bring on the cooler weather.

NatalieRushman · 08/06/2016 22:53

I'm afraid I'm a bit of an extrovert. The only thing that can make me sit outside in the summer is the prospect of socialising Blush. Thankfully, my friends all humour me and make sure there's shade wherever we meet up outside.

RainIsAGoodThing · 08/06/2016 23:11

Lilac I hope you get to one soon. Have Wine for now!

Clean that sounds uncomfortable. Wishing you the best Flowers

irretating · 08/06/2016 23:14

Come live in the North-east, I had my central heating on last week as it was that bloody cold.

MotherofPearl · 09/06/2016 07:36

Rather, argh, the gardening is a nightmare, the grass grows like the clappers in this heat, as do the weeds.

Oysterbabe · 09/06/2016 07:38

The weeds are a nightmare. I can almost hear them growing at my allotment from here.

MiffleTheIntrovert · 09/06/2016 08:10

My cat doesn't come in at night and cuddle with me on my bed. She stays outside all night attempting to slaughter tiny fluffy things.

Fuck Summer.

Wildwillow · 09/06/2016 09:11

I do love summer but experience has taught me it always looks better from a distance than it ever actually is up close.

How about being tempted to buy more summery clothes on that day when it is actually boiling hot only for it then to rain for the next fortnight. Put new clothes away in bottom draw - where you discover much the same items purchased last year and unworn..... (this can go back several years...)

LeiasBuns · 09/06/2016 09:23

Where are all you people in real life? I don't know anyone else that doesn't like summer apart from me and it's for all the reasons already mentioned! And I don't always complain about weather either. I love Autumn and Winter.

My favourite month is January (!) No more stressing about Christmas/New Year. No expectations to go out. Snuggling up on the sofa under a blanket watching tv every night. Absolutely nothing to plan or to have to think about. Absolute relaxing bliss.

MadisonAvenue · 09/06/2016 09:33

YANBU! OP I could've written that post myself - I hate Summer! I'm 46 now and have had hayfever since I was 3. I hate being a sweaty mess. I come out in a rash in the sun. I just hate the feeling of being hot. I'm pale so factor 50 is a must and it feels horrible.
But no, you don't dare moan about it Angry

ArgyMargy · 09/06/2016 09:47

So you object to UK summers - what country's summer would you prefer?

memememe94 · 09/06/2016 10:05

FFS. People aren't considered to be 'moaning' when they complain about not liking winter and cold weather, but they are if they dislike the summer. It's refreshing to hear other people not like summers.

Hedgehogparty · 09/06/2016 10:06

Summer is something to endure, not enjoy.
Luckily for me I have one friend who thinks the same and we celebrate September 1st together!

AnotherEffingOrangeRevel · 09/06/2016 10:08

You're all mad. Have I stumbled onto VampsNet?

(Actually now I've R more of the FT I'm starting to see your points... definitely agree about barbecues and smug boozy twats).

echt · 09/06/2016 10:19

On the other side of the world, I love the summer, even its occasional excesses ( bushfires), though 40+ days are dreadful.

Weirdly, winter is the time for weeds to go mental, so right now I'm Aaaarggh.

The perfect season in Melbourne is autumn: March - May. Bliss.

MiffleTheIntrovert · 09/06/2016 10:21

I actually like Switzerland - they have proper seasons and you can swim in lovely outdoor lakes

FairNotFair · 09/06/2016 10:37

YANBU.

Summer sucks. It's so BRIGHT. Hurts my eyes. And all the bonhomie and socialising gets on my nerves.
