To offer this for tea...

Spinach and ricotta cannelloni (from a packet) with salad. DP is furious. Says when he asked earlier what was for tea I should have said 'nothing'. There is also fish in the freezer but that takes half an hour so apparently is unacceptable at 8pm. I've had enough of his mood and gone upstairs with my half packet of spinach and ricotta cannelloni & he's ordered a take away!

Hope you were wearing a pinny and your lipstick for the "head of the household" when he wanted his dinner on the table.

donotgoogledragonbutter · 10/05/2016 21:34

The list of foods DH won't eat or doesn't like is endless, fussy bugger! I'd just be grateful if someone made me dinner for a change Wine

HeartsTrumpDiamonds · 10/05/2016 21:34

Your DH would starve in my house. I don't cook for ungrateful knobheads.

dataandspot · 10/05/2016 21:35

Babyganoush- I love Shirley Valentine!!!

HeartsTrumpDiamonds · 10/05/2016 21:37

Actually DH is away but when we are together he cooks just as much as I do.

But him being away is awesome. Tonight for tea I had breadsticks with taramasalata, an avocado with tomato and pine nuts and balsamic, a bowl of Doritos with salsa and sour cream and some chocolate. I am going straight to diet hell but that is another thread. Grin

thisismeusernameything · 10/05/2016 21:37

I have tonnes of work at the moment. I've had my head buried in my laptop since Monday.

DH has been living off left overs since Monday. His supplies are dangerously low. I'm waiting to see what his next move will be. The fridge and freezer are both rammed with food. I mainly have been living off toast and twix bars. The kids are surviving thanks to our Au Pair.

What's for dinner is whatever he's cooking himself. Stand your ground OP.

DontBuyANewMumCuntingDailyMail · 10/05/2016 21:41

I'd be pretty fucking pissed if DH was 'furious' at me for providing him with some kind of filling, warm dinner.

He could have said 'Thanks this is lovely. Shall I whack on a garlic bread too?'

Lazy bastard. Don't cook him heat up anything else until he's said sorry for being a knob. Grin

SolomanDaisy · 10/05/2016 21:41

Half a ready meal as a main meal is something I'd like to be warned about in advance! I mean, half a ready meal?! But it's his fault anyway, since he was supposed to cook.

TondelayaDellaVentamiglia · 10/05/2016 21:42

waitrose have no aubergines cos they are all in Lidl at 39p.

what an oaf he seems!

MargaretCavendish · 10/05/2016 21:48

I know I'm totally going against the tide here, but... He said he'd cook, then couldn't get one of the ingredients, and so you said you'd sort it? And then served up half a ready meal? I hope I'd be nicer about it, but I would be a bit pissed off about that - and I can imagine saying that you should have said there was nothing in rather than trying to call half a ready meal dinner!

wiltingfast · 10/05/2016 21:49

As far as I am aware, there is no obligation to feed a spouse.

Kind yes.

Duty no.

If either dp or I don't like/feel like/just fancy something else/are still hungry we just go get something else and eat it. No strop necessary.

It would be a while before I'd count him in again Hmm

Disclaimer: DH takes dinner v seriously and has long removed me from the role of maker of dinners Grin cause I'm perfectly capable of producing only cheese and crackers

wiltingfast · 10/05/2016 21:51

And tbh a veggie curry ain't that substantial either so not sure I understand the fuss about the cannelloni?

roleypoley · 10/05/2016 21:51

But half a pack is a serving!

To offer this for tea...

tabulahrasa · 10/05/2016 21:54

That's ravioli...not caneloni.

That's a completely different meal, lol.

I'd still say it's a bit on the small side personally, but not as much as half a portion of caneloni. Smile

DontBuyANewMumCuntingDailyMail · 10/05/2016 21:55

We have these in the freezer for 'emergencies' all the time. I had one with DD tonight.

YABVU to call it cannelloni. This is ravioli Grin

Queenie73 · 10/05/2016 21:56

Ah right, your op said canneloni so I was imagining like a microwave meal or something. That's ravioli and those packets are plenty for two people. Perfectly good for dinner with a nice sauce.

CancelTheCheque · 10/05/2016 21:57

^ That stuff is delicious and filling and a perfectly valid meal with a salad. He's being unreasonable. I hope he apologises!

Elmersnewfriend · 10/05/2016 21:58

Is there a sauce? It wouldn't be much fun to eat on its own.

ExtraHotLatteToGo · 10/05/2016 21:59

At what point did the lack of aubergines mean he was no longer responsible for dinner night?

He'd starve here - or learn to cook when it's his turn/responsibility. Ridiculous, rude knob!

Besides, he'd hate it when it was my turn, I'm quite fond of a bagel for dinner 😁

StableButDeluded · 10/05/2016 21:59

Veggie curry with nice chunky veggies and rice is much more substantial than half a pack of ravioli, but that's by the by.
Hubby needs to learn that aubergines are available in other shops besides Waitrose, or-and this totally radical but bear with me- use another vegetable instead?
Maybe he's stressing about work and it's coming out as dinner-rage?

StableButDeluded · 10/05/2016 22:00

Not that being stressed about work is an excuse for dinner-rage, you understand. just a thought.

arethereanyleftatall · 10/05/2016 22:01

Every day on mn, my gast is always flabbered at how some people treat their spouses. Irrespective of what you have cooked, there is no way your dh should speak to you like that. Yanbu.

NicknameUsed · 10/05/2016 22:07

"That wouldn't be enough for me let alone my husband!"

Canneloni is very filling. Are you exceptionally greedy?

We often have some form of pasta and salad for an evening meal. It doesn't have to be meat and two veg all the time.

roleypoley · 10/05/2016 22:08

Ha yes he is stressing about work and it came out as a dinner rage! But I just can't be arsed with it. Terribly sorry about the cannelloni/ravioli confusion! It was definitely ravioli. Erm... No sauce

OP posts:
TendonQueen · 10/05/2016 22:10

It doesn't change the fact that he's been rude and ungrateful, but those packs of fresh pasta are an awkward size in my opinion - they are a bit much for a one person portion but only make a small meal for two. Nothing to stop him sourcing something else to go with it though!
