To be annoyed I get given less food because the cook thinks I need to lose weight?

We have catering on site and the lady who serves it (2 days a week) always gives me less than my colleagues. On other days a different lady serves and I get the same amount.

She's very slim and always talking about diets etc. I need to lose weight and it's very noticeable that she agrees when she serves up my food. It's a set menu e.g. I'll be given two sausages and one scoop of mash) and my colleagues would get three sausages and two mash.

I know it sounds petty but I am just as hungry as they are!!

She came into the staff room about 5 hours after lunch and I was having a snack and she said "you're not eating again"Shock as if I couldn't possibly be hungry after the tiny meal she gave me.
Then yesterday I was eaten a homemade biscuit given to me as a thank you and she saw me and said "I've seen you" like I had been caught doing something wrong.

AIBU to be annoyed she is treating me noticeably differently? I pay the same as everyone else! It's a small environment so can't really complain.

I agree you shouldn't mention your weight that is your own private business and will only make you feel vulnerable. Just ask her if you can have the same portion as everyone else.

It's just occurred to me. Are your colleagues men? It used to drive me up the wall in my last school the men would always be given larger portions by the canteen staff. They knew it too and would creakily flirt with the dinner ladies....

To be fair towards the end of my my recent pregnancy the dinner ladies were giving me much bigger portions. Ok that's not relevant or helpful!

I hate being at the mercy of someone else getting to decide how much I eat

sofato5miles · 10/05/2016 08:02

How is two sausages and a scoop of mash 'a tiny meal'?

ArgyMargy · 10/05/2016 08:03

Agree that 3 sausages and 2 scoops of mash is a lot. Portion size is one of the things that helps drive obesity. Unless you are a man, or a very tall woman, or a manual labourer, this is probably too much. I certainly would never have 3 sausages (unless they're chipolatas).

Thefitfatty · 10/05/2016 08:06

God I would be raging! She has no right to withhold food from you! I would complain to her supervisor. Or say something along the lines of "mind your own business you judgey bitch" but I'm a cow that way.

BillSykesDog · 10/05/2016 08:06

Complain. Either confront her or complain above. It's bullying and unless she's doing the same to men, sexual discrimination.

myownprivateidaho · 10/05/2016 08:06

Awful and unprofessional behaviour on her part. I definitely agree you should raise it , however if you raise it directly be prepared for her to make a hurtful comment in response - maybe have a comeback stored up. Or speak to her line manager if you don't want to face a conversation about it (I wouldn't). It doesn't have to be in a reporting type way - you could just say in general terms please could you remind your staff that all portion sizes should be the same as I've noticed it can vary quite a bit. Maybe that would fix things.

myownprivateidaho · 10/05/2016 08:08

and 3 sausages is fine! and also, clearly this thread was not inviting more food police to pile in on the issue of the correct volume of sausage and mash for a lunch.

squidgyapple · 10/05/2016 08:10

That's harsh Argy, and if getting a main meal is a perk of the job I think it makes sense to make the most of it and have less in the evening.

AllMyBestFriendsAreMetalheads · 10/05/2016 08:10

I would never have less than 3 sausages. We don't generally have pudding though but when we do I'd still have 3 sausages

Chinks123 · 10/05/2016 08:11

2 sausages and 1 scoop of mash sounds very small to me, it just shows how different peoples portion sizes are.

Anyway that's irrelevant, you've paid for what everyone else has, you have the right to the bigger portion size and you should be allowed to eat it!! The commenting on the snacks like you're a sneaky eater is so rude Confused

00100001 · 10/05/2016 08:11

2 sausages and ice-cream scoop of mash IS a small meal.

GlitteryFluff · 10/05/2016 08:11

That's outrageous.
I agree with the others - ask for the rest of your portion.

VestalVirgin · 10/05/2016 08:13

If someone pulled that crap with me I'd eat them.

Resorting to cannibalism seems pretty extreme, but certainly effective. Grin

I'd ask for a discount for all the meagre meals she has given you in the past, and of course for all future ones if she intends to continue this shit.

Then use the money to buy snacks. And eat them in front of her.

eddielizzard · 10/05/2016 08:14

disgusting to be treated differently. it's not for her to decide. you've paid the same as everyone else you should get the same.

next time don't take the place when she gives it back to you. say 'i'd like the same portion as everyone else please. i have paid for it.' not rude, just making your point.

if she comments, raise your eyebrows and stare. take back control. it's not for her to police your diet.

Cel982 · 10/05/2016 08:14

I'm getting angry just reading this, OP - please say something the next time this happens. The cheeky cow.

As for her other Food Police comments, I think a very haughty and affronted "I beg your pardon?" is great in those situations. Force her to repeat herself or explain what she means.

dowhatnow · 10/05/2016 08:15

I wouldn't bother saying anything directly unless asking each and every time for the same as everyone else, doesnt work. Eventually she'll give up.

WanHeda · 10/05/2016 08:16

2 sausages and 1 scoop of mash is what my 8 year old gets!

Blacksquirrel · 10/05/2016 08:16

Everytime she comes into a room where you are, loudly say neenaw neenaw! Here comes the food police!....Everytime. .

MattDillonsPants · 10/05/2016 08:17

See I think 3 sausages is too many but that is beside the point. Are you going to complain as advised OP?

SaucyJack · 10/05/2016 08:19

Do you pay before or after you collect your meal?

Is there anyway you can make a point of giving her only half the money every time she skanks your portion?

HermioneJeanGranger · 10/05/2016 08:20

Whether it's a large portion or not depends on what else you've eaten that day, and what kind of job you do, surely?

Anyway, it's irrelevant. If everyone is paying, say, £5 for three sausages and two scoops of mash, plus veg, I would be really fucked off to be paying the same amount and getting close to a half portion - ESPECIALLY when I hadn't asked for a smaller portion!

She's a cheeky cow. Pull her up on it every time. She doesn't get to decide what size your portions are.

Perbsy · 10/05/2016 08:21

Well the number of sausages is irrelevant, you should all get the same, unless you ask for less. I'm bloody starving now and craving a sausage. or three

gleam · 10/05/2016 08:21

Go up with a colleague and swap trays after she's filled theirs.

LobsterQuadrille · 10/05/2016 08:22

FV depends on the size of the sausages and the scoop - if both are on the smallish side then it sounds like a very normal lunch.

HumphreyCobblers · 10/05/2016 08:24

I would be livid. How dare she? So rude!

As for two sausages being enough, that depends on the size of the sausage, surely?! Also it is irrelevant to the point the OP is making.
