Just askin'

And place marking for updates Grin

This thread can't end there, it's not an episode of Eastenders!

OP posts:
FartyMcFartpants · 10/05/2016 17:03

I want to know what the cunting response of the pissy bridezilla is going to be when she sees the mail. I think we should be told.

Pissed off, have you thought about cancelling the cheque?

mnaab · 10/05/2016 17:38

Wow they really do just cut and paste!

londonrach · 10/05/2016 17:39

Ok knew you all know...il return to my box.....

Zoomtothespoon · 10/05/2016 17:54

OP even the daily mail wants to know if you've cancelled the cheque Grin

paxillin · 10/05/2016 18:00

Do not click the Daily Mail link. They need clicks for advertising revenue, lift stories from MN, we link. Like good sheep we click. Don't.

Akire · 10/05/2016 18:17

That's awful surely Mumsnet should have some sort of copyright? One think to steal story but to take s teenagers and quotes and usernames that just seems really odd. Do we need to tag all posts with copyright

Akire · 10/05/2016 18:18

Screen shot not teenagers...

JaneAustinAllegro · 10/05/2016 18:31

yes mrshathaway - i actually went and read the T&Cs after posting this & you're right - it's a non exclusive licence but one which MN retain the right to commercially exploit the user content without permission or sharing income. Most social media platforms have that non exclusive licence to reproduce etc but solely for the purpose of operating their platform - they couldn't function without it, but don't overreach. And yes I take the fair dealing point, but when an article is 90% or more straight MN user content, that defence doesn't apply.

JaneAustinAllegro · 10/05/2016 18:31

and apparently they're going to reply on this issue later on another thread

coffeeisnectar · 10/05/2016 18:45

I've just been on that link.

One of the comments is - well she should just have cancelled the cheque.

You couldn't make it up!!

misskelly · 10/05/2016 18:50

I want to get paid to read mumsnet all day and then 'borrow' juicy threads to write about, what a life it must be to work for the daily fail.

Akire · 10/05/2016 18:54

janeaustinallegro does that mean Mumsnet could re post as they do in blog or a book ? But that dosnt give right for other money making publications to just steal does it?

JaneAustinAllegro · 10/05/2016 19:05

It means that MN can compile into books (you're right, I hadn't thought of that - they've done that haven't they) but it means they could also licence chunks of the site to eg the Daily Mail (or anyone else) to publish. They can sell our words as whatever they want to. I am very much hoping that's not the case - and yes, the books they've done are the commercialisation of user posts that nobody minds about & are very much a part of the ethos of the site

AnnieNoMouse · 10/05/2016 19:11

The hypocritical Daily Mail - screen out the word pissed, but happily show photos of barely concealed tits and graphic images of IS executions.

IAmTheWhoreOfBabylon · 10/05/2016 19:18

So do the DM just copy or has MN sold the story?

SauvignonBlanche · 10/05/2016 19:41

I thought I couldn't hate the DM more - I was wrong. Angry

Seeyounearertime · 10/05/2016 19:44

Which three are MN replying on?

It'd be interesting to see their response to all this.

AnnieNoMouse · 10/05/2016 19:45

I think the DM just lifts story from other sites. I thought it was particularly despicable when they used the thread about the bereaved mother.

SootSprite · 10/05/2016 19:49

This is why I don't use MN anymore. I've been here for years with various different nicknames but the past few months it's all either trolls or journo's. I read the daily mail most days and there's always a MN story.

It's lazy fucking journalism.

I'm betting MNHQ are fully aware and supportive of this though.

MrsHathaway · 10/05/2016 19:55

And yes I take the fair dealing point, but when an article is 90% or more straight MN user content, that defence doesn't apply.

I don't deal in copyright thank fuck so I'm relying on exams ten years ago, but I thought it was the proportion of the work that was used that mattered, not the proportion of the new work that it appears in.

So if the trigger point is 10% (and I don't remember exactly) then the DM Cunts could in theory use up to 10% of the thread without breaching fair use. And as I mentioned, they use screencaps deliberately so that they're stealing making use of the copyright material of MN and not of the original author.

Like I say, this isn't exactly my area so I wouldn't be surprised to be wrong, but I do remember that copyright is very complicated, and expensive to take to court!

hilbil21 · 10/05/2016 19:58

My friend just shared the story on FB - through The Sun Grin

AllThingsNautical · 10/05/2016 19:59

Could we have a concerted effort to get everyone on the site to add 'cunt' into their user name and also maybe randomly insert CUNT CUNT CUNT into the middle of every post? That would stop them screenshotting at least!

TiggyD · 10/05/2016 20:02

Reading The Daily Mail gives you cancer.

Seeyounearertime · 10/05/2016 20:03

althingsnautical

There was a game when I was you where you'd change words that began with an S to sausage. Maybe we could all change every word that begins with a C to cunt?

I'm sure a clever cunt cunt could cunt wrote a Google chrome cunt extension to do it?
