To think summer is a miserable time for fat people?

HackerFucker22 · 06/05/2016 14:31

Caveat by saying immediately I am a good 2st (actually closer to 3st!!) overweight so this isn't a fat bashing thread.

First few proper sunny days and I am frantically trying to find weather appropriate clothes that don't make me look like a whale.

I am hot and sweaty

I am stressed as I have 3 weddings need 2 outfits and I can't find a damn thing.

I went out to buy some new tops today and came back with baggy, shapeless t-shirts.

I am dreading the next few months.

Cycling shorts under a dress to stop thigh chafe is GENIUS! also saves your bum from horrible tube seats or other gross and prickly surfaces.

oldlaundbooth · 06/05/2016 16:42

scampimom you look amaizing!

That dress is the bollocks.

Rueben · 06/05/2016 16:49

I'm the other side of the spectrum - way too skinny but I often feel miserable about myself during the summer. My figure looks awkward in most things. :( I have bad skin, lots of acne and eczema which looks even worse in the sunlight - always trying to hide my face in the shade. I get sweaty and flustered easily

Wincarnis · 06/05/2016 16:49

I hate summer too. I burn easily (pale skin, red hair) then add hot flushes and thyroid probs on top.....arrgh. It's the sweating and WET HAIR.....yuck

Maverick66 · 06/05/2016 16:51

I hear ya all.

Just returned from a fruitless shopping trip.
Size 22 and embarrassingly sweat a lot in my crotch ( Blush TMI )
it means I can't wear lovely summery colour trousers just white or black Sad.
i just look like I've wet myself what the hell is the solution to this problem?
For chub rub:-
I highly recommend the comfort shorts from Taking Shape it's an Australian plus size shop with branches here. They are easily the best comfort shorts I've ever owned and are priced around £10 .

I hope someone can advise on sweaty crotch I am peri menopausal.

SharonSignsToCherryRed · 06/05/2016 17:02

Maverick!! Try the Odaban I mentioned up thread. You can put it anywhere. It's top stuff.

BillBrysonsBeard · 06/05/2016 17:05

I was just thinking this OP, can't hide in coats anymore and even the house is boiling! I'm about 5 stone over my normal weight, size 16/18 and feel so lumpy. Nothing fits and I hate the dilemma of what to wear, and wearing the same thing over and over. I find it uncomfortable but I'm kinda starting to not care what people think, because life is too short to give a shit..
I love summer when I feel slim, it's a totally different experience!

This is why I'm so grateful for baby oil spray. I use it for chub rub and it works wonders.

Maverick66 · 06/05/2016 17:07

Thanks Sharon I did get something from Dr but Pharmacist warned me of uncomfortable side effects so I never used it Confused

mumofthemonsters808 · 06/05/2016 17:13

I'm tall and skinny but can't pull off a maxi dress, they look like a tent on me, I've seen some women with some weight on them looking lovely wearing them. I spend the summer in my palazzo pants ( I think they are called that, 70s wide legged Cotten trousers) or my cigarette pants. Ideally, I'd like to be floating around in my summer dress like Alison from the Affair, but my legs are too pale and veiny. I think we all feel exposed in the Summer regardless of our size and the only people who probably feel comfortable are the Victoria's Secrets Angels. But I just get dressed and then forget about it and try and enjoy the activities that the nice weather brings.Id rather the sun was shining than bloody torrential rain that has seemed to last forever.

ClopySow · 06/05/2016 17:15

Would sanitary towels or panty liners at least help absorb sweat from a sweaty crotch?

I'm going to buy some if that odaban for my head. I spend all summer with my hair tied up because my head sweats so much it looks awful down.

I wish i'd had this conversation with other over heaters before now. I genuinely thought it was just me.

ladymariner · 06/05/2016 17:19

Just read this thread, and can sympathise so much with a lot of the comments although at size 16/18 and a certain age, (and being able, I think anyway, to look fabulous in a maxi dress!!) I too am of the 'if you think I look good then great, if you don't then fuck off' mindset.....bloody loving lilacspunkmonkey post, way to go girls.

tiggeryoubastard may I suggest a small name change to I'mabastard ? Your comments were downright nasty and designed to cause upset. What a pity you feel so shit about how you look that you have to hide behind a keyboard spewing out bile to make yourself feel better......

sonlypuppyfat · 06/05/2016 17:20

Does anyone else get a sweaty top lip

HackerFucker22 · 06/05/2016 17:30

Didn't mean to make this all about the maxi dress!! Alas I'm only 5ft 1in so can't pull them off. I've tried the maxi from the petite range from a few stores but let's face it size 16 and 'petite' is a bit of a oxymoron.

I was so hot today I shrugged off the denim shirt. The flabby arms and bra straps were displayed in all their glory!!

Miaow, you are wonderful, if those tossers can't see that, fuck em! You wouldn't want admiration from those twats anyway.

MintJulip · 06/05/2016 17:40

I hear you op.

I am suffering too, about 3 stone over weight and wont even go near a shop to buy a dress. I wear the same as in winter but with less layers.

I am currently dieting though, its been 3 weeks now on a low carb but to be frank, not seeing results, but I have to get some of this fat off, I have too.

notamummy10 · 06/05/2016 17:40

Hawker i feel your pain (kind of), I'm 5ft 10.75in so I find maxi dresses/skirts too short for me. Sad

htdef · 06/05/2016 17:40

I'm a size 10 and have been smaller and have always been so incredibly sweaty and uncomfortable it is unbelievable!

Buzzardbird · 06/05/2016 17:40

Hacker, you can wear a maxi, just stay away from big prints, a long plain jersey maxi looks great on shorter women, giving a illusion of length makes you look taller and more slender, teamed with a long necklace it looks good, and the great news is you can wear anything you like on your feet.

notamummy10 · 06/05/2016 17:41

Hacker* sorry!!

MintJulip · 06/05/2016 17:41

also on the subject of maxi dresses...slim people wear them too so why on earth would over weight people be laughed at in them?

Its not like a fatties uniform in summer where as every single other person below 10 stone wears other things?

VilootShesCute · 06/05/2016 17:42

Yep. I hate summer. Sweat and chub rub are a misery.

AllThingsNautical · 06/05/2016 17:51

The one summer I lost weight in time to wear lovely, flimsy clothes was a total washout and I spent the whole time in massive cardigans sheltering from rain! Since then, I seriously don't care. I've dreaded summer and been miserable and avoided beaches for too long and I just don't care anymore. I wear tons of Lindy Bop stuff which I've seen roundly slagged off on here and I wear the odd maxi dress so I guess I may not win any fashion prizes but I like my clothes. And I wear a bikini at size 16 as well. Life is too short to hide away in shame.

I found following some plus size fashion bloggers and models on Instagram gave me good fashion inspiration and boosted my confidence.

The new Scarlett&Jo range at Simply Be looks really good so I'm going to check that out for workwear - I definitely struggle to look smart in the summer, I never feel so well pulled together as in Autumn. I'm bare-legged all the way though, getting rid of tights for the spring fills me with joy! There is nothing so uncomfortable and annoying to wear, I revel in my tights-free paradise all summer long!

flirtygirl · 06/05/2016 17:52

Debenhams do fab maxis my mum is 5 1 my sister 5 2 my dd 5 8 all found maxis that suit in debenhams.

For me only dresses and tops with stretch make it past my 40jj breasts, a river of sweat runs under them in summer and i was thinking just the same as the op today.
