To think summer is a miserable time for fat people?

Caveat by saying immediately I am a good 2st (actually closer to 3st!!) overweight so this isn't a fat bashing thread.

First few proper sunny days and I am frantically trying to find weather appropriate clothes that don't make me look like a whale.

I am hot and sweaty

I am stressed as I have 3 weddings need 2 outfits and I can't find a damn thing.

I went out to buy some new tops today and came back with baggy, shapeless t-shirts.

I am dreading the next few months.

Dunno about anyone else, but summer has departed here, and we're back to overcast and not particularly warm weather

Same here in Kent - thought of this thread this morning when letting in a damp cat and looking at the grey clouds and drizzle outside.

LobsterQuadrille · 10/05/2016 08:36

Afraid to say family were among the worst

Oh yes!!! My DM used to cut out articles about how the Duchess of York had lost weight and post them to me at university.

scarednoob · 10/05/2016 08:37

every time is a miserable time for fat people! I need to lose about 5 stone and I hate it, I hate it so much.

i'd do anything to lose weight except diet and exercise, it seems :(

Purplebluebird · 10/05/2016 08:40

Completely with you on this :( spent the other day googling "how to hide muffin top" -.-

1ittlegreen · 10/05/2016 10:21

I hear you. Summer is awful in terms of sweatyness. So, I was in Florida in November and found a genius product: Secret Clear Gel deoderant. I mean I did not even break a sweat under my arms all day. It smells really nice and I only finished it yesterday. That lasted a good 5 months. Anyhow, can't find it in UK anywhere so am thinking about writing to manufacturers to get them to send me some Wink and that is perhaps a less interesting story for another time.

hollinhurst84 · 10/05/2016 11:30

1littlegreen - https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/s/ref=issssi0_12?k=secret+clear+gel+deodorant&sprefix=secret+clear

I got one off amazon

every time is a miserable time for fat people!

I have to disagree with this completely.

Please don't define your self and your life by your size. You have just one life and you are living it today, in the body you have today. Wasting your precious time and emotional resources with self loathing/self pity will only make things way worse, and will lesson your enjoyment of life.

Wear natural fibers, get some good anti-chaff cream (if needed) and a properly fitting bra, take care of yourself and the (only) body you have, as it is this very day. (I also could lose 5 stone to get into a "healthy BMI" weight - though personally I'd like to lose 3).

Have a hug, and perhaps practice some self acceptance.

murphys · 10/05/2016 12:18

Well most of this thread has been quite entertaining. Grin Thanks, as having a crappy day.

I live in a hot country, our winter is about 3-4 months, so its summer wear the rest of the time.

Really, no matter what your size is, there are so many options of things to wear. Short, tall, skinny, plumper, just have a look at how some African ladies dress. They look beautiful most of the time.

I really hate winter myself, and the fact I am wearing a jacket today is quite depressing.....

PinotAndPlaydough · 10/05/2016 13:20

Just got my Amazon maxi dress and it's completely see through Blush
Shame because actually it fitted quite well and was lovely light cotton. Think I'll be sending it back for the next size up!

GarlicShake · 10/05/2016 13:50

Oh, gosh, Pinot, that's an interesting effect!

You talk a lot of sense. Life is too short to be filled with self-hatred and to be concerned with the opinions of others.

We should all be confident with our clothing choices, wear them with pride, and smile in the sunshine.

People who make cruel personal comments about the appearance of others are horribly unkind, with an ugly personality that can't be disguised with a bit of floaty chiffon.

CarrotVan · 10/05/2016 14:37

How do you manage bra visibility with racer back dresses? I quite like those dresses and the maxi skirts in the same sort of range

Maxi dresses seem to suit long legged people more than the long bodied types like me but the ones with colour blocking and a defined 'waist band' can be lovely.

That Kimono dress is lovely.

I'm not overweight but really don't cope well in the heat so a hot summer takes some adjustment. I find that natural fibres help so wear lots of silk, cotton and linen and also that looser fit but tailored is cooler than anything clingy. Proper fit to highlight your best points helps a lot whether that's legs, bust, waist, back...

I hate my pale, usually bruised legs and the extra weight I do have is all on my thighs so rarely wear anything shorter than knee length.

PinotAndPlaydough · 10/05/2016 14:39

Isn't it just! Especially attractive on the stomach and bottom areaGrin

kali110 · 10/05/2016 14:51

I've alao never heard that bigger people wearing maxi dresses was a joke Hmm
Either someone wanted to annoy a load of people or they're unhappy with themself!
I love my maxi dresses! I couldn't pull them off when i was a 8/10 ( i was a very awkward shape!) now im 12/14 i look fantastic in them!
My friend whose an 18 though looks even better though.
You can get a antiperspirant called
Perspirex Original Antiperspirant
that you apply at night that last for few days and stops you sweating.
I used to use it ( on my neck and boobs lol) but my skin has suddenly gone too sensitive so this year i have to suffer!

millimat · 10/05/2016 16:23

I love the maxi dresses baconyum linked to from Amazon I've never bought clothes from Amazon but am very tempted.
I wonder if they'll be see through like pinot though?

SharonSignsToCherryRed · 10/05/2016 16:31

I had a hysterectomy 18 months ago and no matter what I do or wear I have this rubbery feeling belly that sticks out. It seems to have a mind of its own. I either wear trousers to try to contain the beast or loose things with leggings and still feel hot and look pregnant.

fieldfare · 11/05/2016 11:01

carrotvan you can get bra clips which attach to the straps at the back and pull them in. Or get a good multiway bra and cross the straps over at the back.

murphys · 11/05/2016 11:42

carrotvan I posted recently about a few new bras that I had bought, that have this annoying hook on one of the rings at the back. I thought the first one was just a faulty bra.. and then bought another one from elsewhere and it has the same hook on it. So after googling, I find its an attachment that turns your normal bra into a racerback style. You just have to loosen the straps. Now I keep seeing these on bras in the shops, so maybe its a standard thing now??

Should add I am not in UK, so I am sure its just here that they do this now....?

murphys · 11/05/2016 11:43

Not sure if....that should say... Hmm

MintyChops · 11/05/2016 12:37

Tigger, nothing looks worse or less stylish than being a bitch.

Everyone else, this dress is so so lovely. It comes up big, I am a 20 and the 18 is perfect. It is light, has decent length sleeves, below the knees and looks WAY nicer on than in the photos.

I'm off to buy some of the shorts style knickers to wear under then if we ever get a summer I'm all set!

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 11/05/2016 12:54

Minty - I love that dress - I wish it came in my enormous size!

MintyChops · 11/05/2016 13:21

SDTG, it's such a shame they don't do more sizes, nice (shape but no cling, sleeves, natural fibres, lovely colours/patterns) dresses are a nightmare to find.

This is really cool but pricey. Might be worth a look? I think the pattern is gorgeous....

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 11/05/2016 13:28

I think I might start saving up, Minty!!

In the meantime, I do need to get my arse in gear and make the two summer skirts and the summer dress I have the fabric for. The dress will be a fairly floaty, maxi dress, in cotton batik fabric - in bright pink (to suit my quiet and shy nature - lol).

MintyChops · 11/05/2016 13:38

Wish I could sew but am too lazy and hamfisted!
