To think summer is a miserable time for fat people?

Caveat by saying immediately I am a good 2st (actually closer to 3st!!) overweight so this isn't a fat bashing thread.

First few proper sunny days and I am frantically trying to find weather appropriate clothes that don't make me look like a whale.

I am hot and sweaty

I am stressed as I have 3 weddings need 2 outfits and I can't find a damn thing.

I went out to buy some new tops today and came back with baggy, shapeless t-shirts.

I am dreading the next few months.

I am not too hamfisted when it comes to dressmaking - sadly I am extremely lazy!

ShelaghTurner · 11/05/2016 15:02

Thing that really gets to me is, I'm fat all over, no question about that. But my calves are huge and I mean huge! I wear trousers, jeans, those tapered harem things and they all look acceptable, or as good as they'll ever look on me. But sometimes I see a nice dress or more dress-like tunic which would need leggings under it and I can't bring myself to wear that. I'm kidding myself that my huge calves can't be seen usually but in leggings it seems like I should have big neon arrows pointing to them. What do you think?

Moonraker37 · 11/05/2016 15:09

I hated sunny days when I was fatter. I've since lost almost 5 stone after having my children. My heart used to sink and I'd love rainy days! So I totally get it. Not everyone loves summer.

HisNameWasPrinceAndHeWasFunky · 11/05/2016 15:15

its the holy grail isn't it - a dress, that has some kind of short sleeves, comes to at least just below the knee, in a natural fabric, that isn't clunky and frumpy, and that is affordable.

I don't mind wearing maxis, but below the knee is good for me too so A line skirts work. Being large of nork high necklines make me look massive and shapeless, so I prefer a v neck, wrap or wide rounded neckline to emphasise the good bits.

Nope I am over weight but I don't have these problems. I have been a lot bigger than I am now and still never had this. I wore dresses like this during the summer.

There are some great tips on here, thanks guys! Keep them coming please.

IonaNE · 14/05/2016 20:56

ShelaghTurner, what has come to mind is that a lot of men will probably find your calves attractive! So it depends on whether you are looking... Smile But no, seriously, just wear what is comfortable.

On a different note though, anti-perspirants have been mentioned... Perspiration has a physiological purpose, it is the body's response to heat and its method for cooling. I would not block it.

For the chub rub (chafing):
Get some Monistat Soothing Care Chafing Relief Powder-Gel and never look back.

Summer's shit for pale people too. I'm slim but I'd happily go up a few dress sizes for skin with functioning melanin.

Roll on autumn!

tryhard · 29/05/2016 17:14

Yes yes to pale skin!!! You can trace every vein in my legs and arms, every single one, including the brand new varicose veins as the result of 2 pregnancies. Glam in shorts, I am not!

MyLlamasGoneBananas · 29/05/2016 17:30

I'm a 5 ft hight size 18/20.
In reality I know I look like a sack of shot in most things but I feel nice in my maxi dresses.
I take mine up though so nothing drags on the floor. I take up everything I buy I have to. I pick styles with empire line or an elastic waist I can adjust to the right place on my body.
There's fuck all I can do about my height and shape so I know people will carry on laughing at me I'm in my 40''s and am well aware people snigger and take the piss behind my back.but I can't go out naked can I.

dickiedavisthunderthighs · 29/05/2016 18:56

Tigger strikes me one of those people who hasn't come if terms with their current size and gets satisfaction from making other women feel bad, when chances are she's much bigger than them; nothing hides fat like being behind a computer screen hey Tigs?

I'm a 20 and look fab in any maxi dress as long as it has a proper waist and isn't empire line. Also love linen everything!!

JennyBealey · 29/05/2016 19:06

I used to avoid maxi dresses and skirts like the plague because of my thighs rubbing together..... Not to mention sweaty and very uncomfortable after sitting for any amount of time but I can't emphasise enough what a difference Shorties have made to me. Having tried many alternatives that pinched on the waist like tights making me feel even more uncomfortable or riding up on the leg adding to the chafe issue..... Chafe with a hint of scratch! No thanks! : o { I now use Shorties from Lady B Loves...... Totally changed my attitude towards summer. Try them you won't be disappointed and the large fits up to a size 20 my friend has some, she's a 20 and she lives in hers.
