To think summer is a miserable time for fat people?

HackerFucker22 · 06/05/2016 14:31

Caveat by saying immediately I am a good 2st (actually closer to 3st!!) overweight so this isn't a fat bashing thread.

First few proper sunny days and I am frantically trying to find weather appropriate clothes that don't make me look like a whale.

I am hot and sweaty

I am stressed as I have 3 weddings need 2 outfits and I can't find a damn thing.

I went out to buy some new tops today and came back with baggy, shapeless t-shirts.

I am dreading the next few months.

Oohh Sharon that sounds great!!! I was contemplating Botox (but massive needle phobic!)

Capri leggings and a tunic are my go to thank God for awkwardly skinny ankles that look like they may buckle

EarthboundMisfit · 06/05/2016 16:08

I'm obese, though losing weight, and I have a house guest coming tomorrow for a month. Moving furniture etc...I am miserable.

shinynewusername · 06/05/2016 16:09

I'm a right shortarse and I look damned fine in maxi

How do you wear them without a near death experience on every staircase? I'm convinced maxis are a conspiracy by evil tall people to eliminate us shorties through fashion-based tripping hazards.

hazeyjane · 06/05/2016 16:13

Fat or thin I fucking hate hot weather - its all about the sun stroke, sun burn, eczema flare ups and hay fever.

Fortunately I couldn't give a monkeys chuff what people think if I decide to wear a mu mu or hotpants as long as I feel comfortable (ish)

Another summer hater here. Have always hated hot weather. Get heat stroke really easily, sweat like a pig no matter what dress size I am. Plus being a shortarse I can't find lovely long floaty things that fit. Roll on November Grin

Schoolisback1973 · 06/05/2016 16:19

OMG!! This heat has hit me like a ton of bricks! I am not ready for summer.. I was happy to hide myself under my winter coat for another few weeks at least.
I have not lost the gazillions of pounds I need to ,to feel amazing!!

When will I ever be ready for summer? agh!!!

RickJames · 06/05/2016 16:20

I'm slim and fit BUT I have horrible keratosis, hairy arms and I sweat a lot and it doesn't smell good :( Summer can piss off unless I'm doing sports or something else where I dont have to look or smell acceptable. And I look shit in maxi-dresses.

GarlicShake · 06/05/2016 16:22

You've seen through our wicked plan, shiny. Bwaahahah!

oldlaundbooth · 06/05/2016 16:23

Summer is rough.

Hot, sticky, ugh. My skin sweats, my hair frizzes and curls, I detest sunscreen. I look disheveled and mucky when it's hot.

I like to have my upper arms and also thighs covered too, so summer is difficult for me. Chub rub is a problem, I'm fair so burn easily.

Give me jeans, a roll neck and funky boots any day!

oldlaundbooth · 06/05/2016 16:24

God we all sound like a right pack of charmers on this thread don't we?!

I'm sure we are all STUNNING Flowers

WorraLiberty · 06/05/2016 16:24

I don't think I've ever heard of people laughing at anyone who wears a maxi dress Confused

Funnily enough (that you should start this thread OP), as I was just thinking earlier at work on the school crossing, that I felt sorry for some of the very overweight children who were visibly struggling in the heat.

A couple who normally bound out of the gates full of energy, were bright red in the face this afternoon and looking miserable.

PalcumTowder · 06/05/2016 16:25

I'm a 10 and 5'10" and I look dreadful in maxis. My friend is a 16 and 5'2" and looks amazing in them!

You can't possibly know who looks good in what without seeing them in it. All those who feel great in your maxi dresses - it's probably because you look great in them.

dailyfailrag · 06/05/2016 16:27

Bandalettes for chaffing thighs. Seriously. Look them up. You can buy them on eBay now instead of having to wait for USA shipping. Hurrah!

Also I don't give a shit what people think of me in my maxi dress or long skirt. I like pretty fabrics. I'll just scowl at you from behind my fan.

Libitina · 06/05/2016 16:28

I look about 18 months pregnant in a maxi dress Blush

I favour cropped jeans or trousers with a cool floaty tunic over the top.

oldlaundbooth · 06/05/2016 16:29

Not sure if anyone has mentioned midges yet on this thread, but they are another reason to wish for Autumn and getting back to socks and fires.

Bane of my life.

LilacSpunkMonkey · 06/05/2016 16:29

I'm a size 20 and I look and feel fucking awesome in a maxi dress.

I get shitloads of compliments every summer.

Also, I'm 42 now and have had a belly full of not wearing what I'd like to wear because other people think it looks 'wrong' on me. So now I wear what I want to wear and the fact that I'm happy and confident clearly shows because people are so much more complimentary now than they were when I was younger and a size 16.

Wear what you like, people, and ignore anyone who says otherwise.

MrsJayy · 06/05/2016 16:32

Come to Scotland our summer is due July 3rd you will be cool here Grin ID love bit of heat to be moany about

Janeymoo50 · 06/05/2016 16:32

I'm overweight (by about two stone). I get hot but not sweaty. Linen mix trousers are fab as are Per Una long tops from M and S. Decent underear (top and bottom) makes a huge difference under summer clothes for us larger ladies.

RiverTam · 06/05/2016 16:34

Yep, I feel it. Thighs rubbings, damp bra, burn easily, dark hair that just absorbs the heat.

Can I ask about the cycling style shorts - I always think that a cotton skirt will just attach itself to cotton shorts, is that the case? And where can you get maxi dresses or skirts for shortarses?

shinynewusername · 06/05/2016 16:36

I knew it, Garlic

All we have in revenge is feeling smug when we see a "Mind Your Head" sign.

SuperFlyHigh · 06/05/2016 16:36

Drbint it's the kind of maxi dress you wear as a horizontally challenged woman that makes it look good - straps etc are awesome, relying on hefty bosoms and no bra to keep a strapless maxi dress in place a la my ex colleague - tramp central alert...

Monsoon used to do maxi dresses for shorter women about 10 maybe 15 years ago (could be sooner) I know as I bought some from there and they were fab on all 5 ft 4.5 of me! But I do have long longs.... Grin

SuperFlyHigh · 06/05/2016 16:37

Legs not longs! Fecking heat plus 2 cans g&t consumed at lunchtime in park

Drbint · 06/05/2016 16:37

Shiny - I have the buggers altered then swish about at leisure. If I don't, I have to lift them about in Austen-style ladylike behaviour.

tinyterrors · 06/05/2016 16:39

I love the summer when it's the weekend and I can lounge around the house or garden in crop leggings and longline top or a dress. I hate it when I have to go anywhere or do the school run because I end up red faced (thanks rosacea) and sweaty, I need to lose three stone but even when I was a size 10/12 it was the same and I'm a hot person anyway.

My saving grace last summer were comfort shorts from H&M which were brilliant, long enough to stop my thighs rubbing but not so long that I couldn't wear a knee length dress (not that I wanted to).

This year I've bought some longline vests from new look for £7 that come to mid thigh to wear with either a shorter vest or t-shirt over the top and leggings.
