To think summer is a miserable time for fat people?

Caveat by saying immediately I am a good 2st (actually closer to 3st!!) overweight so this isn't a fat bashing thread.

First few proper sunny days and I am frantically trying to find weather appropriate clothes that don't make me look like a whale.

I am hot and sweaty

I am stressed as I have 3 weddings need 2 outfits and I can't find a damn thing.

I went out to buy some new tops today and came back with baggy, shapeless t-shirts.

I am dreading the next few months.

Maxi dress for me today too. Until my milk bottle white, chunky calves get a bit of colour on them I think they are best hidden away. Might get the sun lounger out later so I can tan my wobbly bits.

I am having trouble finding sandals this year. I walk a lot on holiday and always come back with massive fecking blisters from impractical, cheap sandals. Does anyone know a style that's comfortable, flattering to the chunky calved, and doesn't look orthopaedic? Gladiator sandals look shit on my fat legs, flip flops are uncomfortable, and I'm kinda bored of Birkenstocks.

I have this one. Am a size 22 and I look gorgeous in it. When I came downstairs wearing it for the first time my DH couldn't stop saying how sexy it looked. Have had loads of compliments in it too from others

PinotAndPlaydough · 07/05/2016 11:28

I put a maxi dress on this morning but too it back off again Sad this thread has made me really paranoid that people will laugh at me. Instead I ended up in jeans a tunic and a cardigan and was boiling.
I have friends coming over later and I have changed again (three times and it's not even mid day). Into leggings and a black cotton dress, my arms are out but I'm still worried I look gross.

I've ordered that Amazon dress, i need to get over myself and start wearing clothes that a comfortable and practical for the warmer weather.

I got this maxi from boohoo a while ago and I really like it!

Dailyfailrag - I buy most of my shoes from www.shoetailor.com I need wide fit but low wedge (cannot be flat or heeled due to injury) and they do lots of styles.

MissMoo22 · 07/05/2016 12:32

I think summer can be an awful time for MANY people. Acne, stretchmarks, bingo wings, kerotosis pilaris, thread veins, varicos veins, cankles, mummy tummy, sweat patches, excess hair, self harm scars, cellulite, injury scars, uneven skin tone, chunky thighs etc, etc, etc. The list is massive. Point is though, there are so many people struggling to feel good because of one or more of these things so if snidey fuckers would just keep their opinions to themselves then these people would probably feel a lot better about themselves in the Summer.

If you feel good in it, wear it. Fuck what anyone else says or even thinks.

I'm a size 20, I hate being this fat but I do enjoy summer (when it finally makes an appearance in N.Ireland) and love dressing a little more cheery when the sun is out. I'm not a big fan of maxi dresses on me, my stomach just looks even bigger in them so I am on a never ending hunt for the perfect one. It's my upper arms I hate the most, I'd like to keep them hidden but some days it's just too hot to wear a cardigan though.

I shop in all types of shops but find George at Asda tops really good for summer. They have some great swing ones that hide the belly but are usually sleeveless. Their basic tshirts with the little pocket on the chest are actually a really great fit if you go up a size as they are slouchy material and don't cling to the belly.

MintJulip · 07/05/2016 12:38

Hollin I think thats a really flattering lovely style, I like the wide shoulders on it, the v chest and the colours of the skirt.

MintJulip · 07/05/2016 12:44

I am about three stone over weight and in same boat as everyone else but reading this thread does make me wonder why we put ourselves through all of this rather than trying to loose the weight? I suppose like me, its a case of trying and falling off the wagon?

SandyAndy · 07/05/2016 12:44

Pinot don't let the narrow minded opinions of a few judgy people put you off. I am slowly coming to terms with the fact that this is the body I am stuck with and going to try and dress to suit it. If you feel comfy and stylish in a maxi dress, you go for it! I am the worst at inner confidence but am working on it.

Blossom591 · 07/05/2016 12:51

I know what you mean mint a few years ago I lost 4 stone on a juice fast in about 3 months. Easier than buying a load of new clothes, well I thought it was at the time but now I haven't got the will power for some reason

BillBrysonsBeard · 07/05/2016 12:59

Mint I know, and then do all the hard work to lose it and put it on again. It's properly insane when you think about it. I love being thin, it's amazing! But for some reason I just love food too much.

ovaryhill · 07/05/2016 13:03

I'm slightly overweight and hate summer, I'm normally dressed in black all the time as I feel like a double decker bus in a dust sheet in light colours
Patterns don't do it for me either as I then think I look like I'm wafting about like a ship in full sail
My saving grace is skinny legs so love stretchy pencil skirt but I do worry someone will mistake me for a boiled egg on stilts

GarlicShake · 07/05/2016 13:10

Some of you could do with joining Cake Watchers :)

I'm dying of Envy here - we've got heavy cloud and cool, damp air. Wish I were struggling to find anything skimpy enough for the weather - snot fair!

GarlicShake · 07/05/2016 13:11

Ovary, your imagery's amazing Grin

dailyfailrag · 07/05/2016 13:26

Thanks exLtEveDallas. There are some nice pairs on that site. Glad they do different width fittings as I have big feet that are narrow. Lots of 'comfy' shoes come up really wide.

TwentyOneGuns · 07/05/2016 16:26

Someone mentioned 'larger' bloggers/Instagrammers upthread - can anyone recommend anyone worth following? I'm a size 16-18, slowly losing it but am still going to be a lard arse this summer I fear Grin so some ispuration would be good.

I'm also short but I like plain, simply styled maxis - Next Petite ones can be good. I don't think the heavily patterned, often nasty fabric ones do anybody any favours, fat or thin.

hollinhurst84 · 07/05/2016 16:43

curvywordy
fuller figure fuller bust

TooOldForGlitter · 07/05/2016 16:49

I'm off out tonight and dreading it already. I'll be so hot Sad Can't go sleeveless with my arms so I'll be sweltering away in a blazer or something

Behooven · 07/05/2016 16:59

I'm a 16 Apple so anything empire line or gathered looks bad on me - one maxi I tried last year made me feel like a ship under full sail. I do have 2 jersey straight cut maxis and a few midi length from Warehouse too. However my favourite is the Next linen knee length shifts which skim and shorts/tops/slim fit capris - all in linen or cotton.

Jaeger Outlet have lovely sleeveless cotton and linen blouses, I buy them up when the sales come on.

Behooven · 07/05/2016 17:04

This is the type I like..

TooOldForGlitter · 07/05/2016 17:06

You look great in that dress hollinhurst

hollinhurst84 · 07/05/2016 17:11

Thanks, I was surprised it was long enough as I'm 5ft 10 and it fits my boobs!

Squiff85 · 07/05/2016 17:55

I know what you mean, I am several stones overweight (I'm tall, a size 18) and I've been there, unsure what to wear, don't want to look awful etc.

I think you need to find a few key items you're happy with and then roll with it, as long as clothes fit you, why not get your legs out/arms out. I'm starting to think f**k it, I'm hot and I'll wear what I want!

WorraLiberty · 07/05/2016 18:39

I need that top Behooven, it's beautiful.
