To think summer is a miserable time for fat people?

Caveat by saying immediately I am a good 2st (actually closer to 3st!!) overweight so this isn't a fat bashing thread.

First few proper sunny days and I am frantically trying to find weather appropriate clothes that don't make me look like a whale.

I am hot and sweaty

I am stressed as I have 3 weddings need 2 outfits and I can't find a damn thing.

I went out to buy some new tops today and came back with baggy, shapeless t-shirts.

I am dreading the next few months.

The thing with chub rub is I have it if I'm 14 stone, and I have it if I'm ten stone. How is that possible Confused

When I was 17 and ridiculously fit and did loads of sport I still had the damn chub rub. It's simply my body shape. It's the first place I out on weight.

Same with my upper arms. Massive upper arms, even if they are toned and I'm slimmer I still do not show them, unless in a bikini.

Good to see a thread with lots of camaraderie Grin Star

I suffered through five summers of being hot and sweaty size 22....I went to the docs with my chub rub...it was agony. And he told me the cause :( I think it's easy to feel it's too late to lose any of it when the weather kicks in ,but it's only may and when I started to lose the weight (after this docs appointment)...I was amazed to see that with every half stone off I was so much more comfortable. If any of you suffering now could just lose a little bit, you will feel the benefit really quickly. I'm not preaching at all, but it's not all or nothing, just a bit off helps enormously. And if you're not able to, then lather on the lanacane, it's great stuff.

LobsterQuadrille · 09/05/2016 08:53

I have massive sympathy with the summer dilemma as I remember it all too well. When I was 19/20 I weighed 12.5 stone and had the thigh rub, until they bled - bought without trying anything on as I couldn't bear the thought of changing rooms, especially the communal ones which all the cheaper teenage shops seemed to have in those days (Top Shop, I hated you). Anyway I lost four stone and have kept it off (I'm 46) and the weird thing is .... the problem wasn't specifically the weight, it was me and my insecurities. I still worry about being judged and wrinkles, flabby arms, swollen ankles, not dressing for my age etc etc. One of the most beautiful women I know is pretty large but she exudes confidence and always has a happy outlook. Her size is so irrelevant - she always looks great. I look dreadful in a maxi dress, by the way - she looks fabulous.

SeasonalVag · 09/05/2016 09:11

Agree re maxi dresses....my friend, 5'9 and 15 stone looks amazing in them. She carries weight around her bottom so looks shapely in them.

MissOpheliaBalls · 09/05/2016 09:18

Hacker for your weddings, have you looked at www.box2.co.uk/ ?
I was impressed with how light and airy the clothes looked, plus they do 'posh' stuff too !

MaidOfStars · 09/05/2016 09:24

You can buy maxi dresses for petite heights I bought a rail of them

TattyDevine · 09/05/2016 09:25

Sorry I'm late to the party re maxi dresses, but I've found they are more about torso/leg ratios rather than weight OR height, and the specific maxi dress needs to work with your specific torso/leg length ratios in relation to where the waist is and the general cut, same with any belting /accesorising you might do with it, it needs to take your personal proportions into account. So there are a few variables there which are easy to get "wrong" (for want of a better word) which can lead some people to saying "oh you can't wear one of them you are too fat or too short" when in fact its all about ratios.

In my humble opinion, anyway! Grin

Thefitfatty · 09/05/2016 09:25

Trying hating the heat and living in the Middle East! Vaseline is great for thighs, maxi dresses are a God send because they cover and let in a nice draft. Anything tight or fitted is for the devil.

And I sweat like a pig no matter what pants size I'm currently wearing.

I love warmer weather, but also hate the trying to find clothes I feel confident in, I live in joggers/jods/hoodies.
I am a size 18, hour glass type shape, struggle to find jeans to fit as it is, everything I try on makes me look & feel even fatter than I am. I tend to just sweat summer out in my baggy clothes & not go anywhere other than school drop offs, sons rugby & around the farm with the horses.

BeardMinge · 09/05/2016 12:16

Body Glide is great for chub rub, I always used to have a stick of it in my bag, helps that dp is a runner so we always have some in the house. Not as hot as wearing cycling shorts under your skirt/dress either.

Having spent a while in hotter countries, I make like they do, loose cotton/linen tops/kaftans and linen trousers or a nice drapey maxi skirt (I'm 4'11" and look fine in long skirts) and avoid going out during the hottest parts of the day if possible. Loose doesn't have to equal baggy and unflattering.

JoanneNewton · 09/05/2016 13:46

My wedding is less then 5 weeks and was worried sick about my legs rubbing and sweating and then hurting. But i have bought some comfort shorts, they are amazing. I've tried them on while its hot and my legs are kept cool and there is no more sweating :D

CancelTheCheque · 09/05/2016 13:54

Just wanted to add a +1 for Lady Anti Monkey Butt - this stuff is magical and stopped almost all chafing for me.

fieldfare · 09/05/2016 14:04

Last year Primark had some short cycling shorts in, mid thigh, perfect length for me to wear under dresses. I'm a size 20, the biggest I've been in years which is pissing me off, but I don't really give a fuck what anyone else thinks.
I generally wear cotton, shirt style, knee length, belted dresses (with thin shorts under) or thin cotton trousers, some are calf length, some ankle, with a thin cotton tee.

However, I was lamenting to Dh yesterday that I wish I could find some bandeau tops with built in bra support. Oh, and a thin cotton tee shirt that has a deep v neck and sleeves that finish just above the elbow.

Taytocrisps · 09/05/2016 14:06

Just move to Ireland and you'll be fine. Summer makes a very brief appearance here.

Cass168 · 09/05/2016 14:08

Omg, thanks whoever posted the lindy bop link, their pencil dresses are gorgeous!
Now I just need to lose 2 stone, lol...

BennyTheBall · 09/05/2016 14:09

This sneering about maxi dresses comes up on here every year.

No one looks better in anything than a tall, slim person. But most people aren't lucky enough to be both tall and slim so just have to make the best of it.

My friend is short and very fat. She looks short and fat in everything she wears because she is. She often wears maxi dresses because she loves them. She's perfectly aware of what she looks like & good for her.

Shawser78 · 09/05/2016 14:13

I'm a size 22 and currently live in the Middle East where it's currently hitting 42 degrees and it's not even the height of summer yet. I find wearing thin loose fitting clothes and keeping shaded helps.

CancelTheCheque · 09/05/2016 14:19

No one looks better in anything than a tall, slim person.

I beg to differ. Used to be a size 8-10 C cup, now a size 14-16 G cup. I'm having a lot of fun because there are styles of clothing I could never pull off before that look freaking amazing on me now. I can't wear the same styles I used to because they don't work for my shape at all but there are so many new ones that do!

There ARE styles that will work for you ladies, just keep looking and experimenting.

ohlittlepea · 09/05/2016 14:22

Nothing can dress up a sneery attitude Tigger.

I'm a 16-18 and summer can be tough. I like the kimono jacket trend at the moment plenty of floaty arm covering light stuff around. Ive also. Brought some ankle grazer neon peach chinos which I just really love. Sometimes you just have to wear what makes you smile. I look chubby because I am..and me is ok :)

HisNameWasPrinceAndHeWasFunky · 09/05/2016 14:33

Chafing Be Gone - this stuff really works and is much cheaper than Lancane.
I can wear skirts/dresses and walk all day in them without any chafing using this stuff:

www.amazon.co.uk/Udderly-Smooth-Chamois-Chaffing-Butter/dp/B002DR4ISI/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1462800725&sr=8-2&keywords=udderly

HisNameWasPrinceAndHeWasFunky · 09/05/2016 14:35

I get by on a combo of a couple of maxi dresses, and a-line skirts with loose v neck t-shirts, all permitted and comfy because I use the above linked Udderly Smooth Chafing Cream.

My "summer work uniform".

HisNameWasPrinceAndHeWasFunky · 09/05/2016 14:36

My pet pisser is how many makers of ladies clothing think we love to be decked out on polyester all summer long Confused
