To want my child in her class photo

DD has been off school today with tonsillitis. Sad She's feeling a lot better but may not be well enough for school tomorrow. The yearly class photos are taking place tomorrow and she really wants to be in it. I'd be really disappointed if she missed it. She's in reception so this would be her first class picture.
AIBU to ask the school if she could come in just to be in the picture. She would literally arrive in the room, stand there for the photo and then be whisked back off home.

Seems reasonable, except I don't know the incubation period of tonsillitis. If she's still infectious, it would be unreasonable.

Yabu. If she is well enough to get up, dressed, taken to school and pose for a picture she is well enough to go in for the whole day.

Tonsillitis is grim so please don't force her. Sounds like the photo is more for you than her.

I'd also be pissed if she was brought in against exclusion advise.

My DD was poorly for her reception class photo last year and because it was such a small class (fewer than 10) the teacher postponed it and the company came back a few weeks later when she was back to do her class.

She was off for nearly a month with meningitis but thought it would be a shame not to have her in the photo, asked the company and they said it was no problem to come back. Think it was tempest which surprised me. Might be worth asking?

If she is unwell then you can't take her in and risk infecting everyone else.

I can see why you'd be disappointed but yes I think it would be unfair on your dd to take her to school when she's too ill to be there. Next years photo will be no less precious, I promise you.

I can sympathise it has come at a bad time, but agree sorry.
She's either well enough for school or not.
I have one who gets tonsillitis but not quite often enough for them to be removed. She has missed out on lots of things and you just have to shield your disappointment from the child.

Tonsillitis normally gets worse before it gets better. It could even be the beginnings of scarlet fever which no one will thank you for spreading. Is she on abs? Would they photoshop her in ?

We've done this at our school in the past when a couple of kids had chickenpox and it was their last year 2 class photo.
They literally came in, stood on the end and cleared off again.
Mind you, we have a different head now and I can't see her agreeing to it!
There's a big difference to standing for a couple of minutes for a photo and having to stay in school all day. It depends what your head/school policy is like.

No I wouldn't take her in. Unfair to expose the other children to her illness.

It's bad timing but nothing you can do.

She's going to look pretty miserable on the photo if she isn't well, bless her.

DD missed her first class photo. It's not the end of the world, nor anywhere near the end of the world.

Talk to the school, but I can't see them agreeing to it. If she's ill enough to stay off school why would you get her dressed and haul her up there for a photo? Confused. There'll be others.

DS was poorly on the day of his and his teacher suggested he come in for the 20 minutes it took to snap the picture. It's no big deal, I'm sure they won't mind.

I don't see why not. I don't really understand "She's either well enough to go to school or she's not" Hmm As rainbow said, there's a big difference between posing for five minutes for a photo, and sitting in a classroom for six hours.

Tonsillitis doesn't have a recommended school exclusion period like chicken pox or measles would. The chances of infecting someone in the few minutes she's in there would be very low.

She should either be in school or not, not sent in for bits of her/your choosing.

Would also say no, how would you feel if someone else brought in their ill child, stood them next to your dd ? Who then caught whatever it was they had, Personally i would be as mad as a box if snakes !

Yes, the difference between not being well enough to be at schoolo & being well enough to be at school!

If you're too ill for school you should be in bed, tbh, not popping into school for 20 minutes to pose for a photo.

Disagree entirely!

There is a massive difference between being well enough to get dressed and stand and smile for a photograph, and begin well enough to take part in a full active day at school!

Unless your children go to a school where they do nothing but sit down, hardly move, don't have to think o rbe active - they are worlds apart.

However,

if she is infectious - then no, don't take her in.
if she will be unhappy being dressed and going out of the house - don't take her in
if she is unlikely to smile due to feeling poorly - don't take her in

Most schools wouldn't mind this. Pretty much every teacher I know would accept the difference between being well enough to stand and smile for 5 minutes and being well enough to manage a day at school, so they aren't going to mind. And if she isn't going to infect any then I can't see other parents minding either.

I wouldn't worry about it anyway. School photos tend to be overpriced and a bit dire.
