Have labour missed an opportunity for not voting Andy Burnham as leader

Not a corbyn hater I like him and think he is very principled in his ideology. However you see how Andy Burnham has conducted himself in the last week and challenged the Hillsborough enquiries and I can't help but think what if? He has showed that he is an excellent constituency MP, he's had experience as Secretary of State and I think he wouldn't be as divisive.

And of course labour have been far ahead in the polls in the last few months ... Mmm No the haven't

Viviennemary · 01/05/2016 16:26

I agree that the left would rather be in opppostion. It means they can spout forth their theories without any worry that they will actually be accountable to anybody or worry about losing power. They haven't got any power so hey ho does it matter.

Sixweekstowait · 01/05/2016 18:34

There are no words I could use that would come close to expressing my utter revulsion at this.

Have labour missed an opportunity for not voting Andy Burnham as leader
Sixweekstowait · 01/05/2016 18:37

and I wonder how the relatives of those killed and wounded on the bus feel about this image being used for naked political ambition?

TendonQueen · 01/05/2016 18:41

Thankfully I have only seen across the board condemnation for Goldsmith's column. It's made a woeful campaign abhorrent. He is heading for a bad loss Smile

Sixweekstowait · 01/05/2016 18:48

Oh yes, all that condemnation from DC and BJ and the rest of the Cabinet - let's have some leading Tories condemning him and then I might count that as condemnation.

Sixweekstowait · 01/05/2016 18:50

But they won't will they?

squoosh · 01/05/2016 18:57
Shock

Goldsmith's ill disguised Islamaphobia should be considered just as abhorrent as anti-semitism.

What a thoroughly nasty campaign he's run. And the more desperate he gets the nastier he gets. I look forward to him getting a drubbing by the voters.

squoosh · 01/05/2016 19:00

I mean using that image of the 7/7 bus, it's just staggering!

thecatfromjapan · 01/05/2016 19:07

Bourdic I am so glad someone (you!) has posted that (the Daily Mail).

I am beyond horrified.

Zac Goldsmith's campaign is shameful.Sad

Sixweekstowait · 01/05/2016 19:11

A campaign sanctioned by DC - WTAF is the Conservative party coming to? Or reverting to to be more accurate - you know what Nye Bevan said about the Tories?

thecatfromjapan · 01/05/2016 19:11

The silence, where there should be condemnation, iis terrible.

I know a lot of us are appalled. But where is that given voice in mainstream media? Where are the calls for the PM to codemn this racism?

Instead, we have a PM who actually encourages it.

I find it utterly saddening.

Sixweekstowait · 01/05/2016 19:23

Ah - Baroness Warsi has condemned him for the article - that clearly makes her a terrorist sympathiser then.

GhostofFrankGrimes · 01/05/2016 19:38

Bourdic - thanks for posting.

The double standards of the right need to be exposed.

CoolforKittyCats · 01/05/2016 19:54

I condem both. I see there being an issue in both Tory and Labour party. I condem both.

Do you or are you like Corbyn and Abbott in there is no issue in Labour because that is what I seem to be hearing. Which is also hypocrisy, double standards.

Sixweekstowait · 01/05/2016 20:15

The issue here is the sheer hypocrisy of the right condemning JC and Labour whilst condoning a filthy disgusting racist campaign from ZG. All parties have problems, of course they do, we can't expect perfection from them either as corporate entities or from the individuals that comprise them but for the right to be keeping almost completely shtum about ZG's campaign is reprehensible. There are plenty of LP members criticising KL, DA and JC but not one Tory MP as far as I am aware has said anything about ZG. A man remember who loves London so much he defined himself as not domiciled there to reduce the amount of tax he paid on his huge inherited fortune

GhostofFrankGrimes · 01/05/2016 20:21

I am not going to believe there is a wide spread problem simply because that's what the gutter press view is. Nor will I be lectured by careerist Politicians who have their own agendas and axe to grind. I will not be reduced to that level.

I'd like an open, transparent and balanced discussion on discrimination in British society as a whole, but as current events show this seems highly unlikely.

Having an independent thought process and establishing my own conclusions can be useful sometimes. Smile

EnthusiasmDisturbed · 01/05/2016 20:36

Of course I condem both

we know the press is more supportive to the right this is nothing new and despite what has been posted on here many people are aware of this

That does not take away my disgust over the party I have always supported and voted for and to want it to be dealt with so I can feel confident in the leadership which obviously I don't right now

My concern and something I feel strongly about is having the Tories holding onto power in be next election and they way labour are going that is exactly what they will do

Sixweekstowait · 01/05/2016 20:48

Well enthusiasm we know we won't get a Tory party member posting how disgusted they are about their leadership's racism - one might almost think it's because they are not.

EnthusiasmDisturbed · 01/05/2016 20:50

Maybe they do I am hardly going to be shocked if they are

I don't support the Tories if I did I would be

CoolforKittyCats · 01/05/2016 21:03

Well enthusiasm we know we won't get a Tory party member posting how disgusted they are about their leadership's racism - one might almost think it's because they are not.

Or maybe, you know considering this is a question about the Labour party there aren't any Tory party members posting.

I do know however in RL of people that do vote Tory and they are disgusted about it.

Let's face it there are some on this thread that there is no problem in the LP.

EnthusiasmDisturbed · 01/05/2016 21:10

No not know that the left are leading the party into long term opposition

I think JC may even go sooner than I originally thought

Elle80 · 01/05/2016 21:40

I can't stand Corbyn, I actually think the man is a crackpot and would be terrified to live in a country under his government. I also detest the current Conservative government, and for the first time I would genuinely consider voting Labour were it not for Corbyn. Andy Burnham, however, would get my vote.

thecatfromjapan · 01/05/2016 21:56

Actually, I think there are a lot of Conservative voters and party members who are as unhappy about this as I am. Baroness Warsi is a prominent example. However, there is mo reflection of this in the mainstream, or at the level of the leadership.
I'm finding it bizarre that the mainstream discourse is to vilify Labour - despite overt condemnation of anti-semitism by senior figures - and silence when it comes to condemnation of this damaging and divisive campaign around ZG. And ZG's campaign has clearly been controlled from central office. It's not a question of a rogue MP. Sad

CoolforKittyCats · 01/05/2016 22:06

despite overt condemnation of anti-semitism by senior figures

They aren't really condemning it though. There is always a 'but' after anything said or 'it isn't an issue'.

Diane Abbott is a prime example this morning.

The so called inquiry isn't even starting for months.
