It just doesn't appear as professional as I was hoping for I guess. It looks wonky and the fondant icing looks badly done. I was so hoping for it to be amazing.

Look at the photograph of the buildings more carefully. Not all of them are distorted.

RortyCrankle · 23/04/2016 13:57

Bloody awful.

clam · 23/04/2016 13:59

Anyway, I repeat, what about the stripes and the thin fondant?

StealthPolarBear · 23/04/2016 14:11

Weather wax I could be wrong but I don't think the posters calling racism are talking about this thread but other websites. I have seen criticism and humour on this head but no racism. I don't think anyway. I'm still getting over the horror of a marmalade cake (which I happen to think is very well decorated).

StealthPolarBear · 23/04/2016 14:13

Does anyone else have something strange when they open up the picture in tbe op? There's another tiny picture just above the cross to close it

Clarkgriswoldforever · 23/04/2016 14:19

Too many artists out there though who are good at decorating cakes but can't bake for shit. I bet that cake tastes beautiful.

I had a cake made for my dds birthday by someone who's all the rage in my town the now, she makes elaborate over the top things. Looked amazing, tasted dry and stale.

My friend can bake and makes the best cakes, her decorating isn't fancy though.

BendydickCuminsnatch · 23/04/2016 15:23

Someone who's baking for the queen should be able to do both though Clark!

spanky2 · 23/04/2016 15:36

I was disappointed that the Queen didn't eat it. What a waste of time. I like the Queen and Nadiya.

Clarkgriswoldforever · 23/04/2016 15:37

But am I right that the queen requested her? I may be well off here.
If so she can't become a master in cake model craft (if that's even a thing Confused) overnight.

I've yet to taste a cake that looks like it should be in an art gallery thats tasted as good as it looks.

I can't bake at all, totally shite at it. But I never look at cakes shaped like castles and think, oh I bet that's delicious. They're always a let down.

Clarkgriswoldforever · 23/04/2016 15:40

spanky the Queen probably enjoyed a delicious, small, plain, jam and sponge cake made by the in house baker earlier that morning Grin

spanky2 · 23/04/2016 15:42

I did read that she liked traditional food...

hollyisalovelyname · 23/04/2016 15:46

It looked awful. What a disappointment.
Purple - regal- royal ?
The Queen was rude not to taste it.
PR stunt.
Went wrong.

MiscellaneousAssortment · 23/04/2016 15:48

WeatherWax the racism isn't on here. Nor is it mild or only upsetting to the politically correct!

I won't link or repeat it, because it is too foul to actually type. I'm not someone who is easily shocked by any particular words or crudeness. But the ideas that foul wanker is err, pithily expressing... They are vile hatred.

If Nadiya comes on here or every happens to stumble on this or that awful fascist, then I wanted her to hear support. Probably sounds silly, but there you go.

Floggingmolly · 23/04/2016 15:53

We do support her, I actually think what she's achieved is pretty inspirational. And she seems absolutely lovely.
But her cake is a flop, sorry...

MiscellaneousAssortment · 23/04/2016 15:58

I yes FloggyMolly I agree entirely :)

Support and affection, and a polite suggestion she sticks to buttercream in the future.

There are some beautiful buttercream decorated cakes, which would taste much better than suffocating a cake by thick curtains of fondant!

MiscellaneousAssortment · 23/04/2016 16:03

Oops sorry, FloggingMolly not Floggy.

Floggy sounds like I'm creating a pet name for you. Very overfamiliar. tut tut tut Grin

TawnyGrisette · 23/04/2016 16:04

Godalfucking mighty, what a nasty, bitchy thread. Hmm I'd like to see any of you do better.

Sparklingbrook · 23/04/2016 16:06

It's not a bitchy thread. I can't build cars but I think some cars don't look very good. people are allowed opinions.

ChardonnayKnickertonSmythe · 23/04/2016 16:12

Why should any of us be able to do a better cake?

None of us are GBBO winners, I think, and none of us have baking books out or make a living out of baking cakes.

The cake she baked was't good, but there have been no bitchy, racist or personal comments.

Sparklingbrook · 23/04/2016 16:13

Exactly Chardonnay. Are only master bakers allowed an opinion on cakes? Confused

WakeUpFast · 23/04/2016 16:18

Hehehe, it's not a bitchy thread. I really really like Nadiya. She comes across as a genuine brilliant woman. The cake was ugly though, and I hope deep down she knows that and can have a laugh about it in a few years to come. She made a cake for the longest reigning monarch, what an absolute honour to be chosen to do that.

ChardonnayKnickertonSmythe · 23/04/2016 16:21

So, when I go to a restaurant am I only allowed to complain about the meal if I can cook a better one myself?

Or if I want to buy a dress I can only say it's not good if I can make a better one myself?

It doesn't work that way.
If you offer a service you have to be prepared to take some criticism.

Neenypoo22 · 23/04/2016 16:42

I can't be the only one thinking where's the effin candle?! If I was the queen I'd be putting her in the stocks for a flogging! Halo

FelicityR313 · 23/04/2016 16:45

The proof of the pudding is in the eating. I'm sure the Queen had a taste in private. I don't think I've ever seen footage of the Queen eating anything! Maybe it's a thing she has...

ChardonnayKnickertonSmythe · 23/04/2016 16:46

I think the queen didn't want candies, I read it somewhere.
