AIBU to think that Nadia's cake was a bit pants

It just doesn't appear as professional as I was hoping for I guess. It looks wonky and the fondant icing looks badly done. I was so hoping for it to be amazing.

Ok everyone, bake an orange drizzle for Liz's birthday and post the photos here. Off you go...

autumn500 · 21/04/2016 21:09

Frances from bake off would have done something very aesthetically pleasing if she had done it. I'm sure Nadia's cake tasted amazing, even if it does look a bit dodgy!

leccybill · 21/04/2016 21:19

It looks like a leaning tower of quite crap cake to me (sorry Nadiya, love you)

Sparklingbrook · 21/04/2016 21:20

If I was to make an orange drizzle cake for the Queen it would be a bit like this.

She's not a professional cake maker. It's a bit wonky - and? Not really 'pants' is it? Or did you win Bake Off recently?

CeeceeBloomingdale · 21/04/2016 21:22

It looked lousy, they interviewed Nadia just after and said the queen left without tasting or taking any. They also decided no candles. They queen stressed about cutting it due a previous embarrassment and ask Nadia if it would cut. After a quick slicing she was off. Nadia seemed more thrilled that it cut rather than pissed that her maj didn't intend to take any away with her

ImNotThatGirl · 21/04/2016 21:23

It's not her best but I love her anyway.

AlMinzerAndHisPyramidOfDogs · 21/04/2016 21:24

Its crooked.
No-one wants to eat crooked cake.

ChardonnayKnickertonSmythe · 21/04/2016 21:25

She has a baking column.
She has a baking book out, so she is sort of a professional.

She did win BBGO but her cakes and that swan were very childish.
The birthday cake might have been maybe ok if the Queen was 9, not 90.

Lunar1 · 21/04/2016 21:27

Why were the boards between the layers smaller than the cakes?

Lynnm63 · 21/04/2016 21:30

Marmalade cake. Did Her Maj give Nadia a hard stare?
It's ok I'll shut up now.

originalmavis · 21/04/2016 21:30

Why is there a tiny knitted man in the corner?

quencher · 21/04/2016 21:32

That cake made my jaws drop. It looks hideous.Grin

LyndaNotLinda · 21/04/2016 21:33

I would so eat crooked cake. I'd eat any cake to be honest.

Radyward · 21/04/2016 21:33

I didn't think it looked great at all. Thought a pro would have made a way better looking one. Won't do much for nadias career I think as much as I like her

ChardonnayKnickertonSmythe · 21/04/2016 21:33

The knitted man is from the Knit Your Own Royal Family knitting book.

mynamesnotMa · 21/04/2016 21:34

Didn't the Queen ask her can it be cut ....that really was a bit like saying is that really a cake.
Who cares she was so happy to have made it. Better than some old shite from Asda

ChardonnayKnickertonSmythe · 21/04/2016 21:34

I will eat crooked cake. But not a purple one.

StealthPolarBear · 21/04/2016 21:35

The Queen didn't have any Shock
I bet she's doing 5:2 and this is a 2 day

bialystockandbloom · 21/04/2016 21:36

Meh.

I wasn't ever that impressed by Nadia, didn't think she should have won GBBO actually. Though I do like marmalade.

Ha ha ha at "furry jar from back of fridge" Grin

Chillyegg · 21/04/2016 21:39

I think its meant to be like one of the Queens hats isn't it. Still looks shit though...and marmalade has no place in cake. The poor queen for to 90 put up with prince phillip for years and she gets a wonky hat cake with breakfast toppings. I bet she went via Greggs on the way home.

LizKeen · 21/04/2016 21:41

This makes me so conflicted. I love Nadia and I am an amateur cake decorator, so I want to defend her.

But it doesn't look up to the standard it should be for the Queen's birthday. There are so many silly mistakes, and I am sure she spent a long time doing it, but it just doesn't show in the final thing. It is slapdash and careless.

However, I did wonder if maybe she was told to not make it perfect, because the Queen specifically didn't want a professional cake?

It probably tastes amazing.

acasualobserver · 21/04/2016 21:41

Really fucking rude not to eat a bit of your own birthday cake. She could've had a little nibble, surely? One more reason in favour of a republic.

LizKeen · 21/04/2016 21:43

Didn't the Queen ask her can it be cut

She asked "will it cut" because of a previous "embarrassment" when a cake was too hard for her to cut. It was a WI fruit cake. So not surprising that it didn't cut. :o
