Can someone explain Matthew Wright's issue with MN?

Apparently this is home to some of the "most illiterate.... harridans" online. That's the comment he's just made on this morning's show. Is it intended to be tongue in cheek and I've just not got the joke? or does he genuinely think this site is a pile of shit despite the fact that threads topics on here are often fished for topical discussion on his show.

By that I mean pigs producing bacon is par for the course, not that MN is illiterate.

I am referring to the vitriol he spews about MN.

I had to add that correction as I'm sure he's rubbing his thighs at the moment.

Who the rucks Matthew Wright? Can't even be arsed to Google the knob ..Oh well he can shove his opinion up his arse.

AnchorDownDeepBreath · 14/04/2016 13:44

I guess if he really does nick stories from here, he has to slag it off - if he didn't and his audience came here, he'd become useless. His audience would have read the threads live so he wouldn't be required to discuss them and everyone would turn over...

CommanderShepherd · 14/04/2016 13:48

Ha ha! I wondered if anyone would post on the comments this morning. I happen to love the Wright stuff, I think he's hilarious and the topics are at times very thought provoking... Plus it helps put my ds to sleep Grin
And is he really wrong?
runs and hides behind the sofa Wink

Unfortunately some men are sexist and cannot cope with the fact that women have a place where they can safely speak about their issues without men jumping in to talk over them and tell them what do. They find it very threatening.

Yet a comment about women in the same vein would be jumped on by people like you. Do you genuinely not see the hypocrisy in your post? There's a difference between feminism (which doesn't seem to me to be the main point of MN) and your disdain for all things with a penis. I think that if you'd had nicer men in your life, you would hold them in higher regard. My male friends, relatives and partners have all been wonderful and never threatened by women having a place to talk. Are you Bahar Mustafa?

Have any of you ever stepped back and seen just how nasty and vitriolic a good percentage of posts here are? Take the father of the wife who had a mental breakdown due to her c-section date being changed. Horrible posts directed at him / them. A quintessential AIBU thread.

There's an in-group here, as with many other forums, but the bullying and sheer bitchiness of so many of them is astonishing. I suspect it's largely due to the way people change their usernames and protect their anonymity at all costs; perhaps lots of users are actually pleasant people in real life. Of course there are plenty of lovely people her but they're often shouted down as people trample them to jump on a bandwagon.

I work in IT and often have to (professionally) venture to the darker corners of the internet. Never come across anything quite like MN and AIBU.

Having written the above, never listened (knowingly) to Matthew Wright.

BillSykesDog · 14/04/2016 13:56

Definitely not illiterate. But I have to say, some of the more extreme posting does go a bit far. It's ironic MW is being criticised for being a woman hater, when it's fairly obvious that there are some quite vocal elements on Mumsnet who just hate all men.

HelenaDove · 14/04/2016 14:01

He does know what illiterate means right? What an idiot.

Capricorn76 · 14/04/2016 14:05

@herecomesrgepotato/aka Matt. I think you missed a key word in my post before you started ranting i.e some men. I seem to have drawn out one of the some though Grin

Also you don't have to worry about my relationships with males, I have the best DH in the world. He's hot, works hard, is a great father, popular and fucking hilarious Wink

BarbarianMum · 14/04/2016 14:15

So herecomesthepotatoes, you are saying that no men are sexist (as you take offense at the idea some are). Is that right?

herecomethepotatoes · 14/04/2016 15:22

Of course they are barbarian. Militant man-hating is irksome though.

Capricorn aka Bahar - I'm sure you aren't illiterate but no idea what " I seem to have drawn out one of the some though" means.

Gothgirl78 · 14/04/2016 16:01

Well I love watching him when I'm off. I like him and some people on here are really rude and unpleasant .

Lauslaw · 14/04/2016 16:18

potato and goth hear hear! Your both spot on :)

Bambambini · 14/04/2016 16:31

"Wright? Can't even be arsed to Google the knob ..Oh well he can shove his opinion up his arse."

No wonder he takes the piss when folk who don't have a clue who he is, what he does and what he is like come out with some of the gems here!

I can't understand why folk take him so seriously and can't see he's just teasing and winding folk up - though mumsnet often deserves it.

slug · 14/04/2016 16:42

Matthew Wright? Isn't he the one that was sued for writing a bad review of a West End show that he never actually attended? He's also the one who said Beyonce "dresses like a slut" isn't he?

Perhaps the fact that every time his name is mentioned on here, this little embarrassment is yet again raised and refuses to die is behind his dislike of MN (despite his blatant use of it as a research tool for his show).

For "illiterate harridans" read "Women with memories, who know how to conduct web searches and who don't suffer suffer misogynist fools lightly"

TheSpottedZebra · 14/04/2016 16:49

Illiterate?

The count.

Bill there are vocal elements who hate all things though Grin

DeliciousIrony · 14/04/2016 18:06

My housemate at uni used to like a bit of the Wright Stuff of a morning...I have Matthew Wright to thank for me finding mumsnet. I was curious (and bored) as to what this website would be like after he kept making snide remarks, so I had a look, hoping for a laugh. I was surprised by how different it was to my expectations, and never left...definitely didn't watch any more TWS after uni either.

Illiterate!
There are more PhDs here than brain cells in his head.

itsbetterthanabox · 14/04/2016 22:22

He always says provocative things and plays devils advocate to spark the debate. I don't think it was meant to be a real insult but said in jest.

WeeHelena · 14/04/2016 22:34

He's a goady fucker and likes to play devils advocate a lot and he's fairly good at it, he's possibly nicer in real life.
I used to quite enjoy watching the debates on there but now don't bother think he said something once that crossed a line for me.

He's always made remarks about people and kids, mentioning his and his wifes life choice not to procreate but guess they've changed their mind.

lostincumbria · 14/04/2016 22:44

I'll be the dull one who points out Channel 5 is no longer owned by the same company as the Daily Express.

Misses point, runs away.

MrHannahSnell · 14/04/2016 22:48

Who is he? Off to Google.
