Can someone explain Matthew Wright's issue with MN?

Apparently this is home to some of the "most illiterate.... harridans" online. That's the comment he's just made on this morning's show. Is it intended to be tongue in cheek and I've just not got the joke? or does he genuinely think this site is a pile of shit despite the fact that threads topics on here are often fished for topical discussion on his show.

It's been yonks since I've seen his show. To be honest I always thought his guests were even more annoying than him. Does he still have that Lowri woman on?

WonderingAspie · 14/04/2016 12:22

He probably said it see if a thread would started, so he knows how many MNetters watch his show Grin.

I find his description of illiterate bollocks. If he wants illiterate, he needs to look at Nethuns with their text speak and calling people huns all the time. Or hang around Facebook selling sites.

MN appeals to me because people talk properly and intelligently and you are allowed to have an opinion (most of the time Wink). From what I've read, you can be banned from other sites just for disagreeing with the masses. Not interested in that.

So if MW wants to slag us off, carry on because it's not even an accurate description so can't say I give a shiny shite what he thinks.

Boogers · 14/04/2016 12:25

I'll be honest, I've been off work yesterday and today and I watched 10 minutes with some barely literate twunts discussing the Parkrun thing in Bristol, and the debate was initially interesting and well balanced, but I turned the TV off at the point Wright said those doing Parkrun with buggies should be charged double, as it wasn't said tongue in cheek but with a hint of malice.

PomBearWithAnOFRS · 14/04/2016 12:31

Didn't his wife pop up on here once to attempt to defend him after a particularly nasty comment on his show? If I am thinking of the right couple, she was actually lovely, but I could be thinking of someone else entirely Grin
I've never watched his show, but ever since I've been here there have been threads saying he's used material from here for his topics on there. I expect he's like the male equivalent of Katie Hopkins - paid to shit stir for a living.

AdrenalineFudge · 14/04/2016 12:34

MitzyLeFrouf On occasion yes she does make an appearance - the only woman in the world who has ever had a child and divorced her dc's father.

His current guest of the week is a comedian who is everything but funny Hmm

Boogers · 14/04/2016 12:36

He's exactly that, paid to stir shit for a living.

daydreamnation · 14/04/2016 12:36

I like him. He obviously is winding people up and he's good at it. I love his show (when I get a chance to watch it) and think he comes across as decent, honest, wise and unusually open to persuasion about issues raised (unlike many other presenters) I find his stance on parents/children amusing, he clearly doesn't mean it but people fall for it time and time again.

AdrenalineFudge · 14/04/2016 12:41

daydreamnation See that's the thing. I like his show and watch it most mornings even if it just passively on in the background. But he's trying to hard to be a rebel; without a cause. I think Katie Hopkins is twatishness personified i.e the very definition of 'rent-a-gob'. But Matthew seems to have his wits about him. I reckon he thinks of MN as low hanging fruit because like I said if he took the same stance on other forums he'd be out of the job before his feet hit the ground.

Kidnapped · 14/04/2016 12:42

I'm guessing he had a girlfriend once who talked about their relationship on here. And other posters told her to LTB. Which she duly did.

He's never got over her leaving him.

And he holds mumsnet responsible. Wink

glasg0wmum · 14/04/2016 12:44

From my experience on parenting forums, the illiterate harridans are on Netmums.

Foxyloxy1plus1 · 14/04/2016 12:45

I find him arrogant and dismissive of the views of others. He talks over the 'guests' and only permits phone callers to speak if they agree with him, or if he gleans at an early stage that they are intelligent.

There's little to recommend him.

Capricorn76 · 14/04/2016 12:51

He reminds me of the type of man who shouts you down in the pub or talks over you when you're speaking during a meeting at work. They have to one up women at all times.

I'm dealing with one on Facebook at the moment by just blanking him. I know that will wind him up more than any reply I make.

I think his problem is less with parents and more with women. Never watch him because he has a face I want to slap.

Iloveahotcrossbun · 14/04/2016 13:11

I'm sad to say Matthew Wright' show is the only thing I watch on TV Confused

I can't explain it, but I am absolutely hooked!! Though I don't watch every day, and I'll only admit it to my DH and, er, countless strangers on MN...!

Iloveahotcrossbun · 14/04/2016 13:12

I meant to say Matthew Wright's show

Gosh, how illiterate

PreemptiveSalvageEngineer · 14/04/2016 13:13

Tchah! He wishes we were illiterate...

VagueIdeas · 14/04/2016 13:17

Unfortunately some men are sexist and cannot cope with the fact that women have a place where they can safely speak about their issues without men jumping in to talk over them and tell them what do. They find it very threatening.

Yes yes yes. Nail on head capricorn.

MW is a sneery, horrible man. If you hate us breeders so much, you'd better tell your researchers to stop mining Mumsnet for content every single day Hmm

thatwouldbeanecumenicalmatter · 14/04/2016 13:17

I'll happily accept being called a 'harridan' - if MN upsets men like him then I know we're doing something right Grin

Hi Matthew's 'researchers' Grin

SamanthaBrique · 14/04/2016 13:22

Illiterate? We vipers may be a lot of things, but one thing we aren't is illiterate! Maybe he's confusing us with Net Hunz?

AdrenalineFudge · 14/04/2016 13:24

I'm sure he finds this thread hysterical btw.

Yes absolutely. I'm sure he will/does. That's the problem with rebels without a cause. They feed their ego selectively.

OP posts:
MitzyLeFrouf · 14/04/2016 13:28

He's got a nose that looks like it would honk if you squeezed it.

AdrenalineFudge · 14/04/2016 13:30

SamanthaBrique I totally agree. There have been times over the past 10 years that I've been a member (of MN) that I thought 'fuck it let them get on with it'. But at the very least if he were to criticise MN then do so with a leg to stand on - calling posters on this site 'illiterate' is the equivalent of accusing a pig for producing bacon.

OP posts:
Cerseirys · 14/04/2016 13:33

Who exactly is Matthew Wright? Is he like Jeremy Kyle?

Boogers · 14/04/2016 13:33

Does he not know his audience? Or does he assume they are all retired Daily Express readers?
