To be annoyed by "I need a favour but have to ask you face to face"

Eastie77 · 06/04/2016 18:35

I think IABU but anyway...it's annoying me.

A relative sent me a text message stating she needs to pop round and ask me for a favour. It has to be this week and she asked when I'm free. I have a really busy week with various bits and bobs arranged for the kids, appointments etc. I replied the only times that are convenient would be this evening or early Saturday morning before we leave on a weekend break with the kids. I asked if she could give me a call to discuss the favour. She just replied "Ok see you Saturday". I asked again re. the call and she said no, she has to ask me face to face.

I hate this cloak and dagger shit. Just tell me what you need! If it's something awkward I'd rather she asked over the phone tbh. She lives about 40mins away on the bus (doesn't drive) and I mentioned we will be leaving early on Saturday and she'll have to get up early to get here. As this didn't dissuade her I'm guessing it's something important but what and why can't she ask over the phone?? I am not close to this relative btw.

I will feel bad if it's something 'serious' but at the moment I'm just pissed off as we will be sitting around waiting for her to get here on Saturday before we have to set off on a longish drive.

Anyway. Rant over.

OMG she sounds like batshit crazy woman. I'm amazed you gave her your time tbh. I would have said NO sorry can't help you fuck off for not doing this over the phone. Run out of credit on the phone? Sorry she sounds so tight! I suppose she's not the kind to offer to buy a lunch or coffee then?

Great update in anycase. Well done OP!

FirstWeTakeManhattan · 09/04/2016 00:49

It's still there! Fecci's is still there!

OP, take the kids there for ice cream, they make trains, crinoline ladies, teddy bears, lots of things out of ice cream. It's magical for kids.

I can't believe I haven't thought about it in years. I'll have to take the DC Grin

Yvonne is a wrong 'un. She totally wasn't interested in your time or plans, just was being grabby. Not nice.

In the style of mn, saying 'I've got something to tellllll yyooooouuu!!!' then insisting on a cloak and dagger arrangement to purvey said info should now be known as being an Yvonne.

AyeAmarok · 09/04/2016 00:58

I quite like this ending actually!

She does have a total brass neck!

Enjoy your holiday OP!

fatmomma99 · 09/04/2016 02:10

have a lovely holiday, Eastie77

TheMaddHugger · 09/04/2016 02:24

And what she wanted is illegal

All to save 5 Bucks

and Not even be grateful

Wowza

((((((((((((((Hugs))))))))))) You Eastie77

TheMaddHugger · 09/04/2016 02:26

Chants Doo it Doo It Doo it

So I'm thinking, should I text her "There's something you need to do with the permit in order to avoid a big fine but I need to tell you face to face as it's too convoluted over text so can you get the bus back here? At 3am. That's the only time I can speak to you. Cheers"

BlueFolly · 09/04/2016 02:27

saying 'I've got something to tellllll yyooooouuu!!!' then insisting on a cloak and dagger arrangement to purvey said info should now be known as being an Yvonne.

Yep.

EveryoneElsie · 09/04/2016 02:27

Thankgodnotjuiceplus.

BlueFolly · 09/04/2016 02:34

Is Yvonne her real name or did somebody unthread make it up? [suddenly feels a little bit sorry for the really life Yvonne who might be out there. What she's done is only two degrees of madness from something my mother would do so I won't condem her too harshly.]

TheMaddHugger · 09/04/2016 02:35

Hang on a sec. So Eastie77 you have to get that pass back from her to be able to renew it ?

((((((((((Eastie77)))))))))))))) Have a safe and Marvelous Trip

TheMaddHugger · 09/04/2016 02:36

Bluefolly, I do think it was a fake name

And I know 2 very lovely Yvonne's.

toastyarmadillo · 09/04/2016 04:39

Lol glad it was trivial, if technically illegal! Make sure she returns it or you won't be able to get your renewal, which will be a pain for you.
Keep us posted iñ case she gets a fine. I wouldn't mention the registration and date requirements, serves them right if they get a fine.
Could you report it stollen if it doesn't get returned in time for your renewal?

Curviest · 09/04/2016 06:15

Can you please report back what she said? The suspense is killing me!

JeanGenie23 · 09/04/2016 06:29

Curviest she wanted the OPs parking permit Confused

Abed · 09/04/2016 07:10

Well that was a bit of an anti climax.

Whisky2014 · 09/04/2016 07:20

I'd Google the conference.
I bet you don't get the pass back
Yvonnes a twat. Don't tell her about the pass in ink so she gets a fine and the whole the ends up costing them money so they don't do it again!!

MangoBiscuit · 09/04/2016 07:25

Send her a text reminding her to pop the permit through your door when they've finished at the conference as it's really important that you get it back.

Cheeky sod.

bakeoffcake · 09/04/2016 07:28

Omg what a cow!

I'm now very worried about you getting your permit back!

If she doesnt return it promptly, lie to her. Tell her the friend can have one of the new visitor permits, you'll get the old one back in a flash. Then when you actually get them, send her a text saying "so sorry I only get two visitor permits now and I need them both cheeky cow"

zoomtothespoon · 09/04/2016 07:36

Have a lovely holiday!

Message her asking friend to put permits through letter box on last day of using them!

Yeahsure · 09/04/2016 07:48

Yes it's obvious why she 'couldn't' tell OP on phone or text, she had to make sure she turned up in person so she could physically take charge of the permit. She'd already told her mate she could definitely get her cheap parking so she had to come and get it.

It's a bloody cheek and I doubt you will get the permit back tbh OP. Lesson learnt - next time do NOT let her come round, say she tells you over the phone or forget it. I also think it's quite acceptable to say politely that you don't want someone coming over - I know it's a divisive subject but I hate drop ins and pop ins!

Lolimax · 09/04/2016 07:55

I love it! I love that it was all about parking!
Have a fab time in Tenby, make time to go to Folly Farm, we love it there.

FishWithABicycle · 09/04/2016 08:06

I really think you should have said no. The likelihood of you getting the permit back is virtually zero. Yvonne was entirely successful - by insisting on seeing you face to face when you were tired and flustered she got what she wanted whereas if she had explained by phone you could have had the resilience to refuse. Well done Yvonne.

Spending 80 minutes of travel time and all that energy to save a few quid is ridiculous though.

Penfold007 · 09/04/2016 08:13

So she now has possession of one of your three passes that you will need to renew your parking privilidge? You will never see the pass again, she or her friend will misuse it and you will have to deal with the fall out. Can you report the pass as lost?

Enjoy Tenby it a lovely place.

liberatedwine · 09/04/2016 08:24

Eastie? Can I ask a favour? I live in Sheffield but have a big conference in the city next month and nowhere to park my car - can I have one of your passes, a kidney, a loan of £500 and please buy some of my awesome aloe vera capsules.

Thanks!!!Grin

Have fun in Tenby!

DailyFailAreABunchOfCunts · 09/04/2016 08:33

Parking thread!!

What a cheeky twat. However it's clear that the only reason that she insisted on turning up in person, was because she knew that had she texted you then you would've said 'no'. By turning up on your doorstep it's much harder to refuse her - plus the fact it's late, you're tired and busy etc., etc., etc.

She sounds very manipulative. I would go round and visit her when you come back from holiday and make it clear that you are going to collect the expired permit. Then I would take a step back from her.
