To be annoyed by "I need a favour but have to ask you face to face"

I think IABU but anyway...it's annoying me.

A relative sent me a text message stating she needs to pop round and ask me for a favour. It has to be this week and she asked when I'm free. I have a really busy week with various bits and bobs arranged for the kids, appointments etc. I replied the only times that are convenient would be this evening or early Saturday morning before we leave on a weekend break with the kids. I asked if she could give me a call to discuss the favour. She just replied "Ok see you Saturday". I asked again re. the call and she said no, she has to ask me face to face.

I hate this cloak and dagger shit. Just tell me what you need! If it's something awkward I'd rather she asked over the phone tbh. She lives about 40mins away on the bus (doesn't drive) and I mentioned we will be leaving early on Saturday and she'll have to get up early to get here. As this didn't dissuade her I'm guessing it's something important but what and why can't she ask over the phone?? I am not close to this relative btw.

I will feel bad if it's something 'serious' but at the moment I'm just pissed off as we will be sitting around waiting for her to get here on Saturday before we have to set off on a longish drive.

Anyway. Rant over.

As above, I would cancel her visit on saturday, if she wants to ask you something, it will have to be over the phone.

EweAreHere · 08/04/2016 23:26

hahahahaha

It wasn't too convoluted to tell you on the phone; she needed to be in your face to try to get you to physically hand over a parking pass!

Cheek.

Have a nice holiday, OP.

What Elderly and Madame said.

Is Yvonne one of those people who likes to show off by saying to a friend 'Oh, I can fix that for you, I know just the person! No, of course she won't mind, she can't do enough for me! We're family!'

MeMySonAndl · 08/04/2016 23:27

Being the petty person I can be, I would be dreading Yvonne not returning the pass and therefore not being able to renew it.

Charlesroi · 08/04/2016 23:30

She's a loon. The friend could have parked at her place and they could have got the train from Leyton.

^^ They are all right - she was after all your parking permits.

LemonRedwood · 08/04/2016 23:32

I love Tenby. Have a lovely time

Eastie77 · 08/04/2016 23:33

Just realised I forgot to tell her that when filling in the permit you have to write the car reg number in ink and write the time you park as well. Automatic £60 fine if that is done in pencil and those instructions are not anywhere on the pass (blatant money making scam IMO)

So I'm thinking, should I text her "There's something you need to do with the permit in order to avoid a big fine but I need to tell you face to face as it's too convoluted over text so can you get the bus back here? At 3am. That's the only time I can speak to you. Cheers" Grin

Think I can speak on behalf of all of MN to ask Eastie - please do keep us posted on whether Yvonne returns the 'empty' parking permit. That's got to be worth another full thread

Frickle · 08/04/2016 23:37

Eastie, that's an excellent idea.

OccamsRazorSharpner · 08/04/2016 23:40

What a fucknut!

Hmm Shock Well handled op Grin Wine

Eastie77 · 08/04/2016 23:45

Charlesroi - yep my thoughts exactly. Leyton is what, 6/7 stops from Bank? Actually think the friend just wants free parking close to Central London for an extended period. Or it has occurred to me that Yvonne planned to resell an empty permit to someone for cash. Who knows if the conference thing is real.

Trying not to think about getting the permit back. I need a hard as nails Mumsnetter to handle this for me. Shame AnyFucker hasn't turned up on this thread..

Anyhoo..clear skies and sun forecast in Tenby from around 11am onwards tomorrow. Whoop!

As EKL said - she is sly!

Ah well, at least her visit didn't entail you waking up in a bath full of ice and a sore side...

Have a good holiday OP Grin

Veryflummoxed · 08/04/2016 23:46

Oh the ice cream parlour, yes. Now I want to go to Tenby for the weekend

BoatyMcBoat · 08/04/2016 23:49

Good luck getting that permit back. Impress on Yvonne that you do have to have it back and check that has told her friend too. I can see it being chucked when it's finished.

TheDailyWail · 08/04/2016 23:53

Yeah, I think you shouldn't tell her the rules...

cozietoesie · 08/04/2016 23:55

By the way, I'd be chary about accepting any more gifts of cash on behalf of the DCs. It sounds as if she's not above abusing that relationship, I'm afraid.

CotswoldStrife · 08/04/2016 23:58

So the face to face bit was really because she wanted the permit for next week? Be a shame if it was reported lost in a week or so ...

grapejuicerocks · 09/04/2016 00:09

The friend won't try and renew it herself will she?

Eastie77 · 09/04/2016 00:19

grapejuice - no that would be impossible, she'd have no chance. You have to take various documents including all 3 existing permits, photo ID and a utility bill in your name with relevant property address on it to the Housing Corp building to get new permits.

Ooh thank you OP. It was a beautiful twist, even if that twist left me feeling slightly like I ...plateaued...

Thank you for the update, anyway!

Jubaloo442 · 09/04/2016 00:28

This saga has made my night. Thank you :)

RTKangaMummy · 09/04/2016 00:31

I really hope Yvonne and her friend get a £60 fine each time they try to use the permit

Pigeonpost · 09/04/2016 00:31

Clearly the permanent transfer of the pass was the main purpose. Cheeky fecker knew you'd say no without hesitation by text. I can't decide whether I'd be most annoyed by the skulduggery, the brass necked scrounging or the fact that after arranging to turn up at unreasonably-late-o'clock she actually rocked up a couple of hours early at a really inconvenient time. Have a lovely holiday OP!

Just5minspeace · 09/04/2016 00:32

This is genius...I haven't laughed to myself so much in ages! Please do send the text, just get her to meet you in Tenby!

AgathaF · 09/04/2016 00:32

She is a grabby twat. That is all. Hope you have a fab time in Tenby - it's one of my must visit places, so slightly envious Smile.
