To spend £1000

I want a luxury spa and Michelin star restaurant for me and my DP. Live in the Midlands, so open to a lot of areas.

Looked at The Priory in Bath and The Grovesnor in Chester so far. I want utter decadence, but not sure whether these places will offer that. Upto £1000 for two nights.

Am I asking too much for the cost?

P.s., forgot to say where it is, silly me- in between Buton on Trent and Newborough in the Midlands.

BummyMummy77 · 29/03/2016 12:22

Just when I start liking mums net again along comes a thread that depressed the shit out of me with the amount of spiteful, rude and childish women.

I hope those of you with kids don't act like this in front of them or society is really going to be going down the shitter. Sad

Jaimx86 back to your original post .......

If the lake district isnt to far you wont go wrong here www.broadoakscountryhouse.co.uk/

the spa isnt on site but only 2 mins away overlooking the lake. lots of rooms have exceptional bathrooms with spa baths the boudoirs my favorite. the chef here is amazing M* and overall a truly wonderful place in idyllic setting , would be itro £350-£450 for 2 nights (weekend) for dbb & afternoon tea

XIsACunt · 29/03/2016 12:32

I don't think that YABU if you can afford it. The OP has been rude big posters were rude to her first. As always MN is sniffy about people who earn their money and dare to enjoy it.

Philoslothy that's a bit of a generalisation. There may be some posters on MN that are sniffly about people who earn money but not all of us. I gave the Op a recommendation of a hotel I have been to that is beautiful. Then I read her super poor women comment and thought she was at worst an intentionally inflammatory poster and at best completely ignorant. However I find it difficult to believe anyone can be that ignorant. IMO, she created a situation which meant she would be criticised and judged. She hasn't come across well at all.

whatkatiedidnext31 · 29/03/2016 12:33

Giggling loads to myself after reading this thread...particularly the Jaywick recommendation Grin Anyway...best toddle off to the food bank for dinner and take the kids clothes down the river to wash...after all were all super poor here...

DreamingofItaly · 29/03/2016 12:36

I've not read the whole load of comments (don't think I want to!) but you go girl! It's your money, spend it on what you want to!!

I recommend Whatley Manor in Malmesbury, on the edge of the Cotswolds, not sure if anyone else has. It's pure LUXURY!! The spa is incredible (they do an awesome couples ritual, or I can wholly recommend the 90 minute hot stone, it's bliss), the restaurant is 2 Michelin Star, the gardens are beautiful, and the champagne afternoon tea would be a lovely way to finish up on Sunday before you leave.

I absolutely love it there, we've been a number of times , the service is second to none; the first time we arrived, they came running out to us as we were carrying our own bags! Now we pull up and hand them the car keys, they do the rest!! How it should be, I've learnt!

Go for it OP, have an incredible time!! www.whatleymanor.com

DontcarehowIwantitnow · 29/03/2016 12:52

The OP has said they have now sorted it on the other thread where they weren't being rude and calling people super poor

BarbaraofSeville · 29/03/2016 12:56

always MN is sniffy about people who earn their money and dare to enjoy it

I'm not sure that is always the case. No-one ever seems embarrased about or gets pulled up on the 'which house should I buy' threads, even when people are spending several £million on a family home in London or talk about buying the right house in the right naice village near to the right schools and writing off large swathes of the country as 'a dump' while forgetting that only the most wealthy can live in exactly the right house in the right area near the right schools and most people cannot afford to live in prime areas.

You are right XLs I was generalising, sorry

BeaufortBelle · 29/03/2016 13:07

People can earn as much money as they like and earn as much as they like. How much baggage do people need for a weekend?

But what baffles me is the whole spa/detoxifying/healthy concept derived from the original Champneys, health farm sort of thing. It just doesn't go hand in hand with fine dining and fine wine.

Can recommend either Alexander House or Bailiffscourt Hotel, both in West Sussex and both super luxury AND you'll get change from £750 including spa. Have been fortunate enough to stay at both, Bailiffscourt for first two nights of our honeymoon and it was AMAZING. Need to book the spa and restaurant in advance as both very popular with daytrippers.

JolieMadame · 29/03/2016 15:13

Sparkling the Chester topless bus drove past me today and I thought of you GrinThanks

Sparklingbrook · 29/03/2016 17:51

Jaimx86 · 29/03/2016 20:33

Thanks, Catalina. West Sussex is too far a location for the date I'm looking, but will google for future reference. :D

I would also recommend Whatley Manor. Pennyhill is nice too and possibly has a better spa, but imo the service is better at Whatley. Bailiffscourt is nice too, especially in the winter when all the log fires are on - love the smell of woodsmoke and it's quite whimsical, but the restaurant isn't starred and isn't that special if you're looking for really fine dining. Lucknam Park is in a nice setting but we found it a bit tired round the edges, and quite a stuffy atmosphere- the bar was full of rotund, red faced old men. Maybe not the atmosphere you want for a 30th celebration? I wouldn't go back there. Calcot Manor is lovely if you're going with kids but I wouldn't recommend it for a child free break. Four Seasons Hampshire I find a bit hit and miss. We've had some great stays there but also some disappointing.

Beware though if you're staying 2 nights and having spa treatments etc your bill is likely to run well over the £1000. The extras really rack up!

carthorsespullcarts · 29/03/2016 20:42

Would you go as far as Cornwall Op?
The Scarlet is a gorgeous hotel.

totalrecall1 · 29/03/2016 21:11

The grove in Watford. Lovely hotel, lovely spa and great restaurants. Always love it here. Probably my number 1.
The vineyard Berkshire
Luton hoo nice but a bit too big for me.
Stoke park. Amazing building and great deal of movie history.
Great fosters. Nice but make sure you get the main house
