To spend £1000

I want a luxury spa and Michelin star restaurant for me and my DP. Live in the Midlands, so open to a lot of areas.

Looked at The Priory in Bath and The Grovesnor in Chester so far. I want utter decadence, but not sure whether these places will offer that. Upto £1000 for two nights.

Am I asking too much for the cost?

But OP MNetters experiences aren't any different to those on a random newspaper review page written by a journalist who started a thread on MN......

MN suggested a restaurant in London suitable for teenagers to me.....I went and had the dullest meal of my life. I was after something "fun".

Rudding Park in Harrogate Yorkshire. Fantastic spa and restaurant. And you'll get change out of your budget

FirstWeTakeManhattan · 28/03/2016 20:02

I'm hardly going to socialise with you if we end up at the same spot.
Easy for people to say they 'know somewhere' without actually knowing

Oh was this aimed at me, OP?

Gosh, Crossed wire. Absolutely, we wouldn't ever socialise with someone like you. My point was that when rude, objectionable people frequent very nice places, the atmosphere rather changes for those of us who are more accustomed to good social skills, as opposed to dreadful ones. So, yes, we would avoid you.

We stayed at the Chester Grosvenor last year as a treat. We had a deluxe room which over looked the clock on the main road. We ate in the brasserie rather than the Michelin (although I want to go back and do that next time!) as it wasn't as expensive but still really good. I can't recommend the Hotel highly enough, not only luxurious surroundings, the staff were all incredible, so friendly and polite, treated us like royalty. Was a real treat. The only reason I've not been back (as I would love to stay there again) is that there's not a lot to do in Chester.

Buzzardbird · 28/03/2016 20:12

Think it was aimed at me Manhattan but your reply was apt for me too. Smile

Can't stand skutters.

red333 · 28/03/2016 20:24

Don't bloody come to Chester. We don't want you!

Sparklingbrook · 28/03/2016 20:25

I can't believe someone would say 'there's not a lot to do in Chester' Shock

JolieMadame · 28/03/2016 20:33

Argh was about to post the same thing!

I'm like whaaaaaa?? Shock

Chester Grosvenor has always been lovely when I've stayed there.

The more interesting questions are is it his money or yours? Have you both got enough set aside for a rainy day? If it's his money and you're not married and you want to protect your position financially you'd be better off marrying him than going on trips like this. In any event spend some of the money on a good will and documentation about ownership of properties if you aren't married.

Ilovenannyplum · 28/03/2016 20:49

At all the PP's suggesting Maui GrinGrin

Is that decedent enough for the OP though? It would be for me, but she'd probably consider me poor and therefore my opinion is invalid

Oooblimey · 28/03/2016 20:51

Didn't mean to offend the people of Chester! We walked all around the walls, did the cathedral, pottered round the shops but other than that we didn't find much else! I don't like zoos. Please feel free to give me a list of stuff to do as I would love an excuse to go back to the hotel!

Jaimx86 · 28/03/2016 21:07

I've been to Chester plenty of times...

JolieMadame · 28/03/2016 21:10

I'd go down to the river, hire a boat, potter down the river then stop somewhere for afternoon tea, or drive into Wales and scale Moel Fammau, or go to the coast on the Wirral (20 mins away), Peckforton Castle, Beeston Castle, outlet shopping at Cheshire Oaks, the museums, round the walls, a Roman tour (organise through the Grosvenor Museum), cake and coffee at Mad Hatters on the Rows, out to Tattenhall for the gardens.....

I might go in myself actually soon!

tattyteddy · 28/03/2016 21:11

How about Rockcliffe Hall near Darlington?

scotsgirl64 · 28/03/2016 21:11

Stayed at Chester Grovenor for anniversary and ate in The Arkle (Michelin star ) restaurant - gorgeous food and lovely hotel. also used spa ( had massage).... No pool in hotel though...prefer Gleneagles Hotel for true 5* decadence tbh!!

cbigs · 28/03/2016 21:15

This thread is genius!! Grin but really she can't expect her partner to pay for Maui... So it'll be a small do I suspect .

Lime wood or Carey's Manor in the New Forest.

YakTriangle · 28/03/2016 21:23

You could get a cottage for a week in Wales for less than £1000. But I would say that, because I'm a poor bitch.

Farandole · 28/03/2016 21:23

OP why don't you post your income/savings on this thread, as you seem to have supreme confidence you earn/have more than us?

What you said upthread was incredibly insulting and rude. Along with some PPs, I could have helped you with suggestions, but your manners have put me right off. I wouldn't want you to stay in the places I like. Besides I don't think your budget is enough for utter decadence. You would need to budget upwards of £500 for a 3-star (Michelin) meal alone, before hotel or spa.

Sparklingbrook · 28/03/2016 21:25

My short list of stuff to do in Chester-Cathedral to look round and light candles, shopping, trip on the river combined with topless bus tour, hire a boat/pedalo on the river, and have ice cream down by The Groves. All the museums. Outlet shopping at Cheshire Oaks.
Train trip to Liverpool or day trip to LLandudno.

But not shuffling about a hotel in white slippers and dressing gown. Grin

ShatnersBassoon · 28/03/2016 21:27

topless bus tour

Not even a vest? Shock

DonkeyOaty · 28/03/2016 21:27
