Fruit and meat is WRONG.

Wrong, wrong wrong.

Lamb and watermelon salad - wrong.
Chicken and mango - very very wrong indeed.
Sultanas in a curry...really, must you?
Pork belly with rhubarb and cucumber - just why would you?

Ham and pineapple pizza - fine, okay then, if you must. Pineapple on a gammon steak - why would you if you could have a dippy egg? But once again, if you absolutely must.

AIBU?

Noooo I love fruit and meat!

FlibbertigibbetArmadillo · 22/03/2016 19:29

YANBU! I'm generally not a fussy eater and I like fruit but not with my savoury thank you very much.

Katarzyna79 · 22/03/2016 19:29

i made pizza from scratch today none of my kids like pineapple on pizza but i put some on one of them for myself. My eldest daughter just announced she loved the pineapple, but when i order pizaa from outside she hates it?. well it must be nice she's , i think the delmonte pineapple converted her lool

i think I'm going to try figs with cheese not had it, that Pascale chick on the bbc made a pizza with that combo didn't she?, i love figs so why not ;)

annandale · 22/03/2016 19:29

oldlaundbooth · 22/03/2016 19:34

YABU.

Duck and plum anyone?

Pork and apple?

MartinaJ · 22/03/2016 19:34

ham and pineapple pizza and extra ketchup! I was told by my Italian colleagues that I could be executed in Italy for that but I don't mind. Love!
Also, slow cooked ham in pineapple juice is absolutely glorious. Try and you will never want for another one. Cranberry sauce with ham, chicken or whatever is delicious. Oranges and duck, yay! And I love raisins in a curry and peshwari naan.

TattyDevine · 22/03/2016 19:38

M&S do a crayfish and mango salad with the most amazing dressing, but I always pick out the putrid bits of mango... Grin

Duck with apples - excellent.
Pork with prunes - delicious.

(Eastern European background...)

MartinaJ · 22/03/2016 19:43

Yay, pork with prunes, completely forgot about that. And compote with meat. My brother used to eat his roast chicken with potato mash and cherry compote. Wasn't my thing though.
Bacon and dates. Pancetta and figs. Also, chicken with apricots or peach.
Yep, meat and fruit combo can be fun and yum.

Ameliablue · 22/03/2016 19:47

YABU chicken and mango is great, ham and pineapple on pizza is yuck.

fourage · 22/03/2016 19:48

My favourite type of food, meat and fruit.

Swordfish and mango, mackerel and gooseberry, apricots in a lamb tagine.

Heavenly.

Enkopkaffetak · 22/03/2016 19:49

YABU ...

each to their own and hey try it you might even you know LIKE it..

OliviaStabler · 22/03/2016 19:51

YANBU. I hate sweet and savoury on the same dish.

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeG0es · 22/03/2016 19:54

YANBU.

duck and orange - vile
duck and cherry - vile
lamb and apricot - vile
pork and peach - vile
pork and apple - vile
goose and apple - vile
ham and pineapple - vile
gammon and pineapple - vile

Turkey and cranberry is permissible so long as it's really tart and not sweet.

fourage · 22/03/2016 19:55

What about cheese and pickle? Or bacon and HP?

Many pickles and sauces , even ketchup are very sweet. Is that off the radar too?

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeG0es · 22/03/2016 19:56

Cheese and pickle is fine because there's no meat involved.

Bacon and HP - vile.

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 22/03/2016 19:56

Tbf fourage cheese isn't meat.

Valentine2 · 22/03/2016 19:56

I don't know . I have eaten some brilliant chicken and pineapple, chicken and orange and sultana and lamb curries. But as they were all curries, It could be that the sheer number of ingredients there made a difference ?

hugoagogo · 22/03/2016 19:57

Yanbu

You could not be more reasonable.

I don't eat meat any more, but just the idea of it disgusts me.

I'm not a fan of fruit in savoury dishes at all-I'm trying to think of an acceptable combination- er blank.

There is a very naice restaurant/wine bar near I work that is the master of disgusting fruit/ savoury combos. Pear and celery soup? Mushroom rissotto with pomegranate? ewwwie

Figs and fucking prunes with everything bleugh! and I love all dried fruit, as a snack or in a sweet cake/bread/pudding but not on a goats cheese bloody tart!!!!!

Puzzledandpissedoff · 22/03/2016 19:58

Doesn't the thing about pineapple being "wrong" with meat depend on what's being used? A small tin of Del Monte slices is 75p in Tesco, but for that you can buy a whole fresh one from discount supermarkets ... a different thing entirely, and then you've got enough for a slice with your gammon (!!), some for a stir fry, enough for a nice dessert and more ...

fourage · 22/03/2016 19:58

It;s really interesting. I am actually salivating at the thought of some of these delicious combinations here.
If I am alone at home and can't be bothered to cook I will often make some pasta and throw in some chopped chicken or a can of tuna fish with chopped grapes. Yummy.

foxessocks · 22/03/2016 19:59

Pork and apple sauce is a must! Also duck and plum sauce. And pork and apple sausages.

fourage · 22/03/2016 20:02

throughthickand thin, no it's not meat, but I am just trying to understand what people like.

My OH- a great traditionalist likes wensleydale cheese with a slab of christmas cake, at step too far, and although not revolting doesn't really float my boat.
Arabic and some cuisines of the tropics often use meat/fruit combinations.

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeG0es · 22/03/2016 20:04

No, it doesn't make any difference whether it's tinned or fresh pineapple (I love fresh) it tastes vile with meat regardless.

kally195 · 22/03/2016 20:04

YABU Grin

Goat's cheese salad - salad leaves, chopped strawberry, grapes and kiwis, goat's cheese melted on thin slices of toast, crispy bacon lardons and balsamic dressing. Heaven.

Pork belly roasted on a bed of pear, apple and leek with plenty of fennel and white wine. Awesome, with the most amazing crackling.

American pancakes with crisp streaky bacon, strawberries and maple syrup.

Pork steaks cooked with pineapple, soy sauce, garlic, ginger and chilli. Lemon chicken. Plum roasted duck.

Drooool.....
