I didn't mean to! We were just on our way to go and look at wallpaper (exciting I know) and there was a little gallery and I suggested we have a look and...

...a handshake and a discount later, I LOVE it.

AIBU to ask what you have on your walls?

What impeccable taste you have, your Holiness!

Sgtmajormummy · 23/03/2016 10:09

I like the eyes, OP. Windows of the soul. Not keen on the lips, though...

My haphazard brother regularly gives us prints of his own photography for birthdays etc and we go to the trouble of mounting them. He has good taste.

We have 17th century framed maps (copies on parchment) on our sittingroom walls and a large copy of The Ideal City in our bedroom.

I recently inherited about 30 framed watercolours (PIL collected them over the 70s-90s) which I quite like but I'm thinking of doing a whole wall patchwork style rather than dotting them around.... Any advice?

Sgtmajormummy · 23/03/2016 10:16

Forgot to say, the 30 watercolours are all by the same artist.

TexanKenDoll · 23/03/2016 10:17

The more the merrier! It's so lovely to see what everyone has, I love looking at design ideas. Some lovely paintings on here.

We have a large selection! Lots of large prints of Slim Aarons photos and original 50s/60s travel posters from all the places we like. The paintings include Dufy, Kandinsky, Miro, a Jonathan Yeo portrait of DC, Stephen Mangan, Peter Curling, a Frink and various other artists. We also have some amazing murals by Frederick Wimsett, very precious.

Guerre and Diddl... Thank you! On behalf of my dad! I must tell my mum about all the lovely compliments he's been getting... Although it may set her off!!
My mum's house is full of his paintings... They're all nice but me being ever so critical can always find something that doesn't sit quite right!.. Tree too tall... Door out of proportion... Sky too blue!... But... The boat painting just hits all the right spots with me... And it was one of his last! Sad... Sigh.. Like I said... Just as he was getting quite good!!! Halo

Thanks to the poster who mentioned the MS Trust Secret Art Show.

I bought a pencil drawing of a bird for £45 and when it arrived it included a biography of the artist - my guy has sold at Christies and his cheapest art is currently for sale is £2500!

We have an Ansel Adams black and white of Yosemite Valley at the bottom of the stairs I love sesing it each time I come downstairs. It the Cathedral Rock one from 1945.

Our walls are ludicrously overcrowded! Framed cross stitch I’ve done, family photos, cut out type artwork by a friend of my husband, loads of photos, children’s artwork, random Star Wars/Lord or the rings cards...and my favourite, a fluffy purple llama head!
Some serious decluttering will be required when we move!

TooManyPaws · 09/08/2019 22:20

I've quite a selection of paintings and prints from my parents who used to buy a lot from local galleries round the world, as well as ones I've accumulated myself and some of my embroideries framed. I really love two oils of Hong Kong harbour at night, a cartoon I bought from an Edinburgh gallery as a present for Dad, and a signed Peter Pracownki print above the fireplace, all misty greys and pinks of a fantasy Glastonbury landscape. I've a lovely moon painting by a friend too.

FlamedToACrisp · 09/08/2019 22:28

He's my great great great great grandfather. Hope to get it framed one day.

@thenewaveragebear1983 I LOVE Bob Barker. I was walking past a gallery in Chester a few years back and one of his prints in the window caught my eye, I was gutted when I realised I couldn't afford it! I'm not particularly into art and don't even like photos on my walls but I would be over the moon to have something of his :)

Which one do you have?

BarbedBloom · 09/08/2019 22:49

Unfortunately ours are all too identifiable really to post. My husband went to a fine art university and we have paintings and sculptures from some of his friends, a couple who are known now in the art world. He also painted a portrait of me for our wedding anniversary. We have a collage my SIL made as a wedding gift. We also have Guernica by Picasso on one wall.

I did buy a print from an etsy artist, but it isn't framed yet. Will try and find the link later

I have Jolomo and Ron Lawson. Both Scottish artists. Very tasteful, although I do love Ron Lawson's stuff more.

QueenArseClangers · 10/08/2019 10:40

Can’t be arsed taking a picture so this is from Christmas.
We have a mixture of old, new, original, home made art on our walls. Moved and added more pictures since this was took!

I’m surprised by how little I like in this thread. There’s one or two, but on the whole it screams to me “generic Dunelm”. Sorry. Blush

I’m into modern art. I like unique things. We’ve got a massive original abstract canvas from a pretty well known British artist dominating our hallway and my husband and I love it. Having said that, nobody we know does. Lol.

I love how varied people’s tastes are.

PentreBachCymraeg · 10/08/2019 12:42

We love quirky stuff.

I bought this fun painting of the Holkham estate last time I was up there. I love all the tiny details. It’s my happy place so I love looking at this. The photo doesn’t do justice to the colours. They are more vibrant in reality.

Not a painting but photographs. My three nursing uniforms, student nurse, staff nurse and sister. I have this on the wall of my study. So much nostalgia. 😄
