I didn't mean to! We were just on our way to go and look at wallpaper (exciting I know) and there was a little gallery and I suggested we have a look and...

...a handshake and a discount later, I LOVE it.

AIBU to ask what you have on your walls?

None of my art work is on the walls at the moment , a recently acquired piece is tucked down the back of the sofa until I decide how to have it re-framed or mounted , it really isn't what I think of as my taste but I saw it and wanted it. It is very of its time ( 1960's) , quite abstract , but is of a street in a local town which I drive up and down every day ! I bought it from someone who was clearing out their parents home , bit sad really .

Mariannesolong do you know about framing ? Mine is done on board and is like a relief map of the dales , definitely oil or acrylic type gubbins , so wondered about a massive boxframe with glass to stop the flies pooing on it in the summer ?

gatewalker · 22/03/2016 07:21

This. An original by a northern artist, Victoria Horkan.

Love this thread. I now need a Gina Parr painting.
These are my my children it's always interesting what people see them as. The blue one is fish in the sea. They yellow I have no idea ( two year old) but I see a car in New York 😄
Now I need to name change.

I really like local artist Roo Waterhouse - her stuff is here - lots of pictures of domestic life especially.

DH got me this one, and I'd like one of the bookshelf pictures as well

bigsnugglebunny · 22/03/2016 08:36

Those pegs are so nice! I'd look at that picture all day.

My husband does framing and we'll often discuss choice of frames together. It's standard to put glass over watercolours or other works on paper - including acrilycs - which are more easily damaged. Oils on canvas or board aren't usually framed.

It's hard to tell without looking, but a box frame would make sense to protect/contain something that was more sculptural/3D. You'd want good quality non-reflective glass, so there wasn't too much feeling of a barrier and you could appreciate the relief properly. Light reflected on the glass would be an interruption and flatten things out.

NB. I'm in the West Midlands. Feel free to message me/send photographs if you like.

Acrylics, I meant. Can't always spell in the morning!

BoatyMcBoat · 22/03/2016 10:48

I have these, among others. I don't know anything about either of them (or any of the others we have!). If anyone can tell me something about either of them, I'd be very happy Smile

The dragonflies are in my hallway; the dog at the top of the stairs.

The dragonflies is an original painting on tiles, from the annual National Exhibition of Wildlife Art

www.newa-uk.com/pages/home.php

which is well worth a visit if you're in the area.

bea- your father's painting is lovely- really good- and so personal too.

I can highly recommend the MS Trust's Secret Art Show if you want to choose based on what you like and don't mind finding out the artist later :)

I've bought a few pieces from them in the past. This year's goes on show on April 11th and then on sale a week later: www.mstrust.org.uk/get-involved/shop/secret-art-show-pick-a-mini-masterpiece

It's all original artwork, £45 a pop. I've no time to take pics right now but I've got a lovely ink/line drawing of my local town and a watercolour of some crows from it in previous years.

SprinkleBlushes · 22/03/2016 23:17

I love this thread - so many beautiful pieces of art!

I am in love with prints from a company called Spineless Classics at the moment. They turn entire books into posters and I currently have these little beauties hanging on my walls.

Withershins · 23/03/2016 08:31

zoomtothespoon saving up for my next print, I like the Tattoo series Grin

diddl · 23/03/2016 09:04

I love your brother's work, bigmouth.

Can't afford my favourite thoughSad

Bea-that pic by your dad is just stunning.

PercyPigTheSecond · 23/03/2016 09:08

Does anyone know of any good artists in Britain who paint beautiful landscapes? I keep seeing ones from overseas but the postage is so expensive then!

NotAnotherNameChangeAgain · 23/03/2016 09:23

Love this thread. It's great to see so many people appreciating art and to see such varied tastes. I'll have to admit that my tastes vary quite a lot from most that's been posted here but isn't that really the point of art?

I LOVE Samantha French link but I don't have any of her pieces. Not sure what I'd do with them if I did!

NotAnotherNameChangeAgain · 23/03/2016 09:24

PercyPigTheSecond check out Etsy.com and filter your search to the UK.
Also look at Saatchi online, you can filter that to landscapes too

PickleSarnie · 23/03/2016 09:44

This is my living room. Quite understated I think?.....
