I didn't mean to! We were just on our way to go and look at wallpaper (exciting I know) and there was a little gallery and I suggested we have a look and...

...a handshake and a discount later, I LOVE it.

AIBU to ask what you have on your walls?

You can buy prints pretty cheaply ElBanito and swap it for a real one when he's not looking Grin

hmcAsWas · 19/03/2016 20:59

Yes, I'm with you fluffiphlox

SimonLeBonOnAndOn · 19/03/2016 21:01

I've got a print from dunelm on my wall. I think they have the same one in a house on coronation street.
When I'm rich I'll upscale to a Next giclee

Ds has a little HR Giger print (not numbered or signed, sadly. Think it must have been something sd after an exhibition) that I found in a charity shop. I love it. So does he. Would love a real, large one.

Our EBay find. The picture was taken in bright sunlight so doesn't quite do justice to the depth of colour or the way that the gold glimmers in light. It makes me happy every time I look at it Smile

fluffiphlox and hmc that may be the case (believe me I've certainly looked at some of the ones on here and thought "eurgh"! ) but if everyones tastes were the same the world would be a boring place and everyone would have the same art on their walls!

hmcAsWas · 19/03/2016 21:13

Good point, well made Norbert

EnriqueTheRingBearingLizard · 19/03/2016 21:16

Treasure it Bea - beautiful and means so much more than you can say.

We have original art on our walls, none of it valuable. Watercolours from our honeymoon location and our 10th wedding anniversary and some really lovely pen and ink drawings from that anniversary too (not of us or anything) and we have one of our DC's works up too, because they're an artist and we like what they do.

I like to look at things that either make me happy, or provoke interesting thoughts.

NorbertDentressangle · 19/03/2016 21:20

It also means that you can pick up affordable original pieces that you really love (like my rooftops one). If everyone loved it then the price would be astronomically high and it would be out of my price range.

I have a couple of friends who are artists. One is successful enough to have had a Guardian article on him and his work but, do you know what, I don't get it at all. Thankfully I don't know him well enough that he would give me a piece of his work as a gift because if he did I sure as hell wouldn't want it on my walls!! Blush

I am loving seeing what people have.

I'm quite nosey and this thread is heaven for me.Smile

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 19/03/2016 21:26

Naff or not, it really doesn't matter. If people like them, then that's all that counts.

I have a couple of framed tapestries and some of dd1 and dd2's paintings framed but mostly we just have framed posters because we still think we're 19 and going to Sonic Youth gigs.

ElviraCondomine · 19/03/2016 21:33

I have a print of a steam train.
I am not particularly into steam trains however the original painting is of the train my grandfather drove in the 1950s, and pictured arriving at the main station in his home city.

I was ridiculously excited when I found it.

I also have a beautiful original watercolour by my late uncle, of the place where DH and I got married.

Natsku · 19/03/2016 21:34

I have art all over my walls, quite addicted to picking up pieces in charity shops and flea markets. These are two oil paintings, one inherited from OH's grandma and one picked up in a charity shop for a fiver.

zen1 · 19/03/2016 21:37

Amongst other things,I have this autumnal oil painting (probably by some student) I found in a charity shop. It just appealed to me as autumn is my favourite time of year.

Bigmouth - you are my kind of people! Grin

NorbertDentressangle · 19/03/2016 21:51

I can relate to the young gig-goer thing too as we have a couple of framed black and white photos of DP when he was in a band.

I've also got some old gig posters stashed away somewhere.

Memories of younger days!

Bea · 19/03/2016 21:53

It is fascinating to see what everyone likes and have on their walls! Yes! I'm nosey too and agree with everyone about "if you like it... That's all that matters!"
Thank you all re:my dad's painting! He'd be beaming like an idiot if he knew people liked his efforts! StarHalo

pandarific · 19/03/2016 22:11

zoomtothespoon Haha, I've just shown yours to my OH and he's Envy.

I have a lovely bright print by Jenny Urquhart-I love her Bristol based stuff especially.

CallMeExhausted · 19/03/2016 22:20

It is not my style, but if it makes you happy, nothing else matters.

Our artwork is primarily landscapes - not a "modern" piece among them.
