To think you shouldn't take time off work for a deceased pet?

Woman in my team (quite new, very young) went home at lunchtime yesterday because her family pet had been put down (it was old, she lives with her parents). She has now just said she wants to 'work from home' today because she is so upset.

I had a pet, so I get it, but AIBU to think this is not on, and unfair on the rest of the team?

I went to work after the death of my cat and it was the wrong decision. I should have taken the day off because I was in peices.

YABU!

You said you have a pet so you apparently 'get it'.
In most families a pet is part of the family and their death is absolutely devastating. Especially if they've grown up with that pet as a child, their first friend, their childhood!

When my beloved cat was hit by a car and killed I took a couple days off work as I was distraught and knew I couldn't do my job properly which was potentially hazardous as a carer.
She has a right to grieve so I think you should be more sympathetic.
Does it really affect you if she went home early and WORKS (so still working!!!) from home?!

What a horrible post. Your poor colleague. And yes, YABU.

I was very upset when my rabbit died. Then my Dad died. Put the rabbit into fucking perspective.
